I had THE most incredible experience I have ever had at a restaurant here. The food is amazing,…read moreit's so cute, and the people that work there are so kind, loving, and absolute angels. If I lived in Memphis I would be here all the time. I truly hated leaving. I love them. We will be back solely for these lovely people. THANK YOU!!!

    | A Flavor Explosion in Memphis! If you're looking for…read moreauthentic South Indian cuisine that doesn't cut corners, Cafe India is easily one of the best spots in Memphis. Even before you walk in, the aroma lets you know you're in for a treat. Why It's a Must-Visit: * The Food: The balance of spices is incredible. Whether you're a fan of the creamy Chicken Tikka Masala, Kadhai Paneer, Malai Kofta or looking for something with a kick like their Lamb Vindaloo, every dish feels fresh. * The Naans: You can't come here and not get the garlic naan. It's perfectly pillowy with just the right amount of char. * The Service: The staff is consistently warm and attentive. They're great at helping you navigate the menu if you aren't sure about spice levels. * Vibe: It has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that works just as well for a casual weeknight dinner. Pro Tip: Don't skip the Mango Lassi--it's the perfect way to cool down your palate if you go bold on the spice levels! *The Dosa Spotlight* The real star of the show for me is the Dosa selection. It's hard to find South Indian staples done this well in the city. * The Variety: They offer an impressive range, from the classic Masala Dosa or Mysore Dosa to the more adventurous Guntur Podi and Cheese and Ghee Dosa varieties (my kid loves them). * The Texture: They nailed the "golden ratio"--the crepes are incredibly thin and shatteringly crisp on the outside, yet soft and slightly tangy on the inside. * The Pairings: Each dosa comes with fresh coconut chutney and a sambar that actually has depth and a nice tamarind tang. The potato masala filling was seasoned perfectly--not too mushy, just pure comfort. They also have a Bot that delivers food table side which is a BIG attraction for my son. Memphis has a lot of great food, but Cafe India holds its own as a top-tier destination for anyone craving real-deal flavors. I'll definitely be back.

Very relaxed ambiance, would have been nicer with some music, but still very nice! Very pretty inside as well! You do have to flag the waiters down, but very accommodating once you have their attention. Plenty of parking outside as well. I'll be back!

Swadisht | Delicious!! Best Dosa I've had, chewy and…read morethicker, so flaky and crisp, than ones I've tried previously in Portland that were wafer thin without the body here. Still thinking about the texture and the tangy and quite spicy 3.5/5 thin red curry, the potato curry dips that reigned supreme vs the creamy earthy finger white one. Plain Dosa $10.99 5/5* All 3 curries were yummo and while no lunch menu here, the curries do come with white basmati rice. Oddly the goat in Andhra Curry $19.99 appeared quite white in color and thought it was chicken thigh hmm but hubby loved it. 'Hot' was about as spicy as the red Dosa curry Butter Chicken mild $17.99 was yum, not overly creamy or cloyingly sweet that tends to be a problem I am sure as adjusted for US palates but Social D's was great though less tomato forward, but very worthy. Lamb Saagwala $19.99 medium was actually kinda mild (again that Dosa curry musta got us spice prepped haha) in a green sea of creamy spinach. Garlic butter naan #3.99 was crisp, thin middle, puffy edges with slight doughy chew, very good, and a 2nd order soon followed. Taj Mahal bottled beer $5.99 had a deep golden color, very malty palate mixed with a slight hop for a balanced day lager, an easy lunch sip. My BILaw was against trying Indian food, get this 'second' time claiming it was not for him, turned out loves everything we ordered today and professed to a return in future!! Yee ha! Menu is extensive with Rice Biryanis - unusual to see 4 distinct styles from different regions vs the generic rice biryani with different proteins. And Poori the hollow puffs with veg/curry dips. Again more unusual curry offerings include a couple not familiar with, Kadahi-Chettinaad-Andhra. And an Indo-Chinese menu that I've not come across in any US or UK menu. As out of state visitors I am sure SDIC will get another family billing, with our new fan of both Indian and in particular, Social D's Indian cuisine ;)
