If you have any Eastern European ancestry, as soon as you walk in the door it will smell comforting and familiar. Like grandma's house when she's cooking. With imports of not just dry/canned goods and chocolate, but also cheese and milk products from Russia and the Ukraine this is a serious place. Russian music on the stereo, calendars on the wall and all of the staff tri-lingual (at least). To top it off, they have home made Russian style cakes - my favorite is the Napoleon cake - classic thin layers of wafer with a tangy sweet cream cheese filling (some enrobed in chocolate). I had not had it in years and when I discovered it there I almost had tears in my eyes. It's damn good. They also have frozen food - with what seems to be over a dozen types of dumplings in all styles (Georgian, Ukranian, etc.) filled with everything from potato and onion to a delicious mix of lamb and beef. If you get them, pick up Russian sour cream to go with them. They insisted I try some - so I brought it home and tried it alongside supermarket sour cream. I'm NEVER buying supermarket sour cream again, there's just no point when this is here. Besides that there are all sorts of cured fish and meats that you simply cannot find anywhere else and an entire aisle dedicated to bins of colorfully wrapped Russian chocolates; grab a bag and start selecting. It's all in Russian (which I don't speak) so I go by the pictures. It's a complete crapshoot as the pictures are of princesses, castles, et cetera - but I like chocolate so it's been a fun adventure. Anyway, if you're a foodie, not coming here is unthinkable. it's so close to the Métro stop - you can probably tell I've been here more than a few times. ;)

A small family business with a big serving on customer service. I can't emphasize enough that I live far from Montreal. Especially for just a few specialty ingredients. So when I want a nice piece of otoro, I would give them a call and they gladly put a quality piece aside for me! They have really interesting ingredients that you can't find in any other Asian markets. So... sushi and sukiyaki tonight anyone?! :)

They sell a range of different Japanese and some other Asian foods, sauces, ingredients, as well as some home decor/dining sets. Place is immaculately clean and I love their covid setup so that you enter one way, and it loops around the whole store so you can exit by the cash register. There's one man holding up the fort in the middle by the cash register, and a woman making sushi and other prepared foods behind this pretty open concept glass display. Prices are a bit on the higher side, and since I'd been craving sushi, I got a set of large sashimi rolls for $9. They were ok, but for a grocery store they hit the spot. I love that they're located right next to restaurant park and in my romantic musings I hope they're often collaborating, cuz who doesn't love when local businesses partner up to make amazing foods.

My cousin was visiting Montreal for a couple of days and wanted to find a West African restaurant after living in Ghana last year. He called in advance to organize our order. The lady (presumably also the owner and chef) was exceedingly welcoming and really made us feel at home. We ate: 1. Roasted fish - My aunt guessed that it was tilapia. It was topped with onions, tomatoes, cucumber and carrots. The fish was really flavourful and the veggies brightened up the dish a lot. 2. Roasted chicken - I think the seasoning was similar and the veggies were certainly the same. It was served with fried plantains on the side... delicious. 3. Attieke - Grated cassava, sort of like rice. It was a nice consistency and served with hot peppers as a condiment 4. Salted tuna - Served on more attieke. We thought it was a bit try and too salty. 5. Bissap - Hibiscus drink was really refreshing and not too sweet. It was perfect at the beginning because it was warm in the restaurant when we first arrived. 6. Degue - Millet porridge. It tasted like creamy, tangy yogurt with millet grains. It was quite sweet but a nice ending to the meal. The homestyle service is here really where the four stars are going. The food is certainly good but it's tough to compare with limited West African cuisine options in Montreal. Give it a shot and see for yourself!

My wife is pregnant, she couldn't move fast and felt sad and angry about this thing. There is no respect from the the employee at this store. Please avoid this store.
