Added to my Montreal Favorites List…read more I love everything about this shop. You can tell there is so much TLC that goes into each dish. The flavors are really well thought-out and balanced. The price is right too. Super friendly staff, and I love the business model, giving lots of creative freedom to the chef, not being boxed in by the same meals every day. Ordered a bunch of different things and literally 5-stars across the board. I will DEFINITELY be returning here regularly going forward. I hope they stay around for a while... do yourself a favor and go visit this restaurant / grocery / Chinese deli

There are two daily noodle options to choose from (varies between soup / noodles with sauce / warm / cold). The two options vary a lot, but there's always one that's with meat and one that's vegetarian, often with tofu and vegetables. It's often spicy and always has great depth of flavour. The ingredients taste fresh and there seem to be an effort put into choosing local and seasonal products. Watch out to go somewhat close to opening time as they tend to sell out in the early afternoon! There's also a fridge with a few other options you can purchase (ex. fried rice, smashed cucumber, eggplants). The cook and the front of store lady are both very kind and welcoming. This place seems pretty successful already, wish them all the best!

TL;DR/The Short Version: Asian supermarket not far from…read moreConcordia University. Small but good selection. They have fresh steamed buns (bao). The Long Version: I love poking around small grocery stores, especially international grocery stores in search of exotic goods. So when I was walking by Bonjour Supermarket I had to stop in. The store is not too large, but it has a good variety of products. They had items imported from Taiwan, Japan and China. Maybe other countries too, but those are the ones I saw. As luck would have it, while I was there I saw a lady wheeling out a cart of freshly made steamed buns/bao. They were still warm! Even though I was still full from lunch, I couldn't resist getting some. They were $1.50 each and came in quantities of 2, 3, 4 or 6. They had lots of different flavours such as pork and celery, chicken and cabbage, and beef (the beef ones were $2 each). But the only pack of 2 they had were pork and celery, so I grabbed that one. The buns were soft and there was a good amount of meat filling. They were tasty and for $1.50 each they were a great deal. The store accepts cash, debit and credit, but there's a minimum spend for debit and credit, like between $5-$10. So I paid cash. Staff were pleasant. If I was in the area and looking for a snack, I would get the buns again. Review #147 (2025)

I chose this place to be apart of my Baklava Taste Test because of different forums online, and suggestions made by locals. Many have said that they have some of the best in Montreal. Taste-wise it made do for a typical baklava craving, the pieces were also quite big. I found the baklava to be of standard goodness, and definitely I would come back when I need a reliable source. The only thing was (and I am not sure if this was due to a misunderstanding or not) when I got home, I had discovered 4 other desserts were also placed in the box that I did not ask for, which made sense when I discovered it, why it was so expensive for what I ordered. Nonetheless, the cashier and check out staff were extremely pleasant, and it's nice to see them smile, and chat with you while efficiently helping you manoeuver out of the store!

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION...go to the other Akhavan, the manager is horrifying!!! I wish I could…read moregive this place a 0, but it's not possible here. Although my review is for customer service, it doesn't just reflect that (the food is expired and dated). Our family was visiting Montreal for the weekend to see the sites and had been told by friends to visit Akhavan supermarket while we were there. We're from Iran, so it's always a treat to see other Iranian establishments in Canada. We made the mistake of going to this location for for some kabob...instead of the other one (we traveled for over an hour to get there). There is a rule at the store (which we were unaware of and did not notice the sign) that if you purchase your items, you leave what you've purchased at the front of the store and if you wish to do more shopping, you may then go back in. We didn't know this. After waiting for about an hour for our food to be made (we wandered the store while waiting...this is not an Iranian grocery store...it's the Afghani version), we finally got our order and my mom and her friend went to pay. Once they paid, they decided they also wanted to purchase more items at the store. I noticed a commotion near the back of the store where what I soon realised was the manager yelling at my mother and her friend to get out of the store and doesn't she know the rules of the store. My friends and I were shocked and I asked my mother what happened. She told me the manager, in broken Persian (because he is Afghani) was yelling at her to get out of the store and treating them like theives, because they had not realised to put what they had purchased at the front of the store. I got very angry and marched back into the store and asked to speak with the manager. I was told the man who I had seen yelling was the manager. I asked him how could he speak to a customer like that, he could have easily mentioned to them of the store rules and the issue would have been done. He yelled at me, "Those are the store rules!" I told him, even if they are, there is no reason to have been so rude and disrespectful. They had a receipt and could have easily proven that they had bought every item in their bag...he yelled "I don't care!" And then like a coward that he was, decided to walk away without any other word or apology! This man thought he was still in the middle east where rude behavior like this from a man to a women can be tolerated. He knew he made a huge mistake and I clearly told him, this isn't Iran, or wherever he is from. Here in Canada, we respect customers and don't tolerate disgusting behaviour like the one he showed towards women (ie. my mom, her friend and myself). A few of his staff even let me know that this behaviour from him isn't isolated and that he has driven his staff and past customers crazy. I won't allow his disgusting behaviour to ruin the name of the other Akhavan store, however which we did go to and they were wonderful. Shame on this manager and whoever continues to agree with his sexist behaviour.

Produce and fruits like just about everywhere in Montreal is top notch, well displayed and fairly priced,Selection of everyday products and staples is well represented but where this market shone is with it's vast selection of middle Eastern products. A fresh cheese section featuring 8 different Fetas,6 Jabins, and countless Halloumis with a smattering of herbed and honeyed specialty soft cheeses. Sausages covering the spectrum from your excellent local bratwurst to 9 flavors of Mergez from the very mild to the intensely red and spicy. Lebanese and Turkish coffees abound as does every conceivable dried herb and spice and I couldn't help but indulge in a couple tubes of Tunisian Harissa, mounds of sundried and oil marinated tomatoes, tins of Lebanese 7 spice blends. Service is decidedly 3'rd world meaning curt and perfunctory but not rude as some reviewers claim but then again my French is minimal and Arabic non existent. So when next in Montreal please take time to visit this great grocery....you'll never know what you'll find.
