As an alum, I am fortunate and privileged to say that I graduated from Roosevelt High School…read more The school site underwent constructions from 2004 to 2006. Classrooms are new. Lockers are new. They really invested a lot in re-constructions. We changed several principals while I attended school there. The library is pretty amazing. Lots of open space, large study tables, and computers for students to use. Commons are huge and always packed during lunch hours. I remember students always love having (early) first lunch rather than second lunch. Second lunch is some time after 12pm so students are often so hungry by then since school was used to start early at 7:45am. The gym is amazing. There are different rooms in the basement where you can workout and even take yoga classes. Teachers are great. I am still in touch with several high school teachers who have great personalities and know their materials well.

I went to Roosevelt and made many friends there. They have an amazing Jazz and Theatre program…read more However, their Choir teacher Mrs Kent was the worst teacher I ever had. She told me to stand up in front of my entire class to show them "how not to sing" knowing I had my wisdom teeth removed the day before. She was misogynistic, picked favorites and singled out the girls for laughing with each other before class. she said, "why would we expect men to respect us and not see us as objects when we act like that." Other than MRS KENT... Roosevelt was an amazing school.

I went to the bush school for 7 years, and had to leave after my sixth grade year. The lower…read moreschool had it's problems, but it was mostly the middle school that was the reason for me leaving. The staff and teachers do not intervine bullying or physical fights. And I had a teacher that would bully me for the amusement of my classmate, and nothing was done about it in the end. My parents respectfully told the head of the middle school the problems, and he did absolutely nothing, and started trying to gaslight my family into thinking it was somehow fixed. The middle school counsellor was absolute garbage, she threatened to call the police on me when I stood I to leave her office to go to the bathroom after I got falsely accused of self harming in my science class. They were not flexible about teaching kids the way they need to be taught in order to learn. While I hadn't yet been diagnosed with autism I think that they still should have been more patient with me because it was obvious the way that they were teaching me, as well as a few other kids, in a way that worked for us. They also fired a bunch of beloved teachers for no good reason, and promoted a bunch of terrible teachers including one that was kind of racist. They have prided themselves about being inclusive to everyone, yet would not let me use the bathroom correlated with my gender identity because I'm trans. And they treated popular kids way bette. There's a TON of other problems with the bush school that I just don't want to get into right now, but I hope you get the point. I would put 0/5 stars if I could, I do not recommend this school at all.

Ok I'm going to balance the bad reviews with some realism. High school is rough for some and can be…read morea difficult time. However, my experience at Ballard grew me into a successful adult and the caring staff and well planned curriculum prepared me to excel at university and beyond. There will always be all sorts in high school, but Ballard did a wonderful job preparing me to be a contributing member of society. If I still lived in Seattle I would send my own kids here.

Class of 2026 here. I wish I could rate this school in the negatives. By the end I was under so…read moremuch stress that I was loosing entire patches of hair on my head. If you're disabled, don't go here, especially if your disability is invisible. This was the most horrendously ableist four year long experience I've ever gone through. It was so traumatic that it gave me depression so horrible that I couldn't leave my house for weeks at a time. I experienced ableism from almost all of my teachers, and even an IEP coordinator (the IEP coordinator held my 504 over my head in front of the entire class). It was a constant uphill battle because the teachers would say ableist micro aggressions to me, then gaslight me that they never happened. I tried to reach out for help early, but my straight Cs (that were straight As the previous two years) weren't enough to warrant helping me. But, when I was failing multiple classes the next year, they also refused to do much to help me. Also, avoid taking any class Ms. Logsdon teaches. Every year she picks a "nerd" to bully while she gossips with the popular girls. I wish I was making that up. I was the "nerd" she picked one year, and she is the only teacher who has ever made me uncontrollably sob. There were many other teachers who were awful, but she's the only one that was so bad that I feel like calling her out by name. The other bad teachers were just overworked and not paid enough, Ms. Logsdon seemed to enjoy bullying her students. This school gets so much funding, but it all goes to the sports. We can have a no cut football team of 50+ people, but can't afford pencils or basic services for disabled students?? The priorities of this school are backwards. The student culture of this school is abysmal. I've never met so many apathetic people in the same place before. Special shoutout to Profe. Yardley. She was one of the few teachers that actually cared and took my disabilities, and the struggles that came with them, seriously. Principle Hunt was also amazing. She was so kind to me and took me seriously.
