Try to rent a space, had problems doing the initial rental. I then got my access code and it didn't let me into the gate. There is no one here to help, no one obviously watching the cameras because we were frantically waving at them, no button to press to get a human to help us into the space. We're dealing with a family emergency and are now stuck with a car full of supplies that we need to move. I have called customer service twice and left messages also no answer. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever gone through I do not recommend ever coming here read more

My unit is clean and the building is generally maintained. However, the office personnel don't return phone calls, the security gate has been left up for hours on end with no explanation and I've gone there and the fire alarm was sounding. Nobody from PS ever returned my calls to explain either situation. My rental rate has skyrocketed and it is 100% higher than their advertised online rate. When I inquired with PS corporate they said to contact the local agent. I did and of course, nobody has returned my call. read more

I had never rented a storage unit before. I needed to rent one and have access to it on a Thursday. When I showed up at 6:30pm, none of the access options were working. It was super frustrating because I was moving within the next few days and didn't have any spare time to lose. The only option I had was to call a hard to find number and leave a message, where it took another full day to hear back. They told me they reset my code and access options, and it should now work. I tried accessing it again and it still didn't work. Eventually I was able to find someone to help me and get my access codes to work. Would not recommend if needing a storage unit in a time crunch. read more

I made my reservation with public storage online after looking at where their facilities are in relation to where I'm moving. I booked a unit at 5060 Coolidge Ave Royal Oak Mi. when I arrived to the address on my reservation, my gate code didn't work so I went into the office. the manager informed me that my unit is not where I booked it, but at 2821 Industrial Row Royal Oak Mi. exactly a half mile away. this is false advertising and illegal. icing on the cake, their carts don't fit through the doors in the facility so you have to carry all of your stuff through the maze of units. read more

My advice is avoid this company at all costs. We encountered wide open gates, wide open doors, 1 cart for the entire large facility and 3 price increases. There's almost never anyone available on the phone or in the office. This is without a doubt the poorest run company we have ever come in contact with. Customer service is some of the worst I've encountered. You know the type, bad attitude and lack of helpfulness when overcharged for services. Both employees I requested help from getting a small amount of money returned to me were non-communicative and generally hostile to my multiple polite requests for assistance. Also, beware the lock purchase charge and insurance charge that you decline will appear on your account regardless of your instruction. Take your Zoloft before talking to these surly, unhelpful zombies. read more

I'm sitting outside the Southfield Michigan Telegraph Rd office and no one is working here. Several other Customers are as well. I need a new key for my Unit. I flew in from out of State. And no one answers any of these phone numbers what kind of business are you running here.?? I have had to rent two outside access storage units here and that has been a really efficient process. The app works well and does everything from allowing you to select and purchase a unit two giving you gate access on your phone. The units were clean and the facility was in very good condition. Be cautious as this storage facility increases rates without any notification; they might give you 15 days notice. I've used them for 2 years and have had 4 price increases. I understand supply and demand but this isn't a commodity; it goes up like gasoline prices. read more

Beware. They make it cheap to move in. After a few months, they raise your rent hugely! Ours went from $132 (move in 7/31) to $162 on January 1 for a 10x10. Plus, they put us right in front of a gigantic puddle! I didn't see it when we moved in but if we're there after it rains, it's a huge mess. read more

VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER! I would definitely rent a unit from them again! The staff, especially Jan, has been nothing but kind, courteous, and professional! (My parents had rented there previously.) I rented a unit for almost three years; and I never checked on it--not even once! When I closed out the unit, everything was safe and sound. BTW much of the one star ish reviews, which lead to an underrated average rating IMHO, stem from not caring for price. Do keep in mind that keeping things in good storage units long-term should not necessarily be cheap. You want professional caring staff! Yes, I paid a substantial amount for the unit, which was exacerbated by my own laziness. Frankly, the location is so well maintained, as I knew from previous experience, that it is easy to be lazy yet rest assured. read more

The units are NOT Climate controlled properly. Your stuff will suffer from mold damage even if you put it in one of their climate controlled units. read more

This location is currently under construction and there was no consideration for protecting the units from undue dirt and debris. On top of that they increased the rent by almost $30/month. Revising my rating. Look elsewhere. I've had a unit there for a year now. Raised my rent a few months ago. Ok, fine. I figured as much going into the place. But that's not the issue. Visited there a couple of months ago and noticed they were starting construction and expanding. Curious that we weren't notified but ok fine. Went there a month ago and the gate was open and when I asked why it was to accommodate workers. Went back a week later, gate was open and unattended. No workers or office staff there. Went back a week later, same thing. Later that same week, same thing. A week later, same. Went back on Friday, yet again gate wide open and no attendant. So I called to complain. The district manager called me back to say that's to be expected, that office staff tour the property or escort customers or run errands. Gate has to be open for workers. He also said that the office doesn't open until 9:30- the previous property manager was always there before that (that was Jan but apparently she's gone!). Curious that being there 5 times in a month at all different times of the day and no one is ever there. His story doesn't hold up. So on top of that my stuff in the locker is filthy from construction and I noticed animal droppings in my unit. I'm moving out and if you're reading this, I'd look elsewhere. read more

I made an appointment to meet at this Coolidge location. The woman on the phone verified the location and address with me. When I arrived at that address she told me to go to a different address. When I went to that address, the door was locked and no one responded. I left. Twenty minutes later the woman called me to yell at me for not making my appointment. Beware. Rates go up annually. Overall I have been satisfied with my public storage space. As far as cleanliness, maintenance and support staff are concerned, they meet my minimum requirements so I have no issues there. However, if you stay here long enough, they will increase your rate (increased mine by 20%!!!!!), without sending you any notification or asking you first. It will simply just get taken out on your automatic payment. They also fail to mention this when you sign up for the storage space at the beginning, seems like a really nice way to reward your long term customers! They know it is more expensive to move all your stuff out of their dishonest establishment and therefore you, the customer, are likely to just take the price increase up the tailpipe without a fight. Also, they may argue that notifications are sent out (Telling you, rather than asking you about the price increase). I received no such notification, via phone or email. read more

I have been a satisfied customer of this Public Storage facility for about 2-1/2 years now, and recently vacated because I got access to available space at another location (*not* changing to a different storage unit). This Public Storage facility has always been clean, dry, well-maintained, and well-appointed, with any needed tools and accessories available. I have been impressed with the efficiency, professionalism, and friendliness of Jan and Tessa, no matter the challenge. About a year or so ago (for instance), I needed to estimate costs costs in evaluating whether it would be a good idea to downsize to a smaller unit, and Jan was very helpful with all the needed information -- supplying available options, considering my question and consulting. In another instance, I believe I may have had to get a lock de-iced (or perhaps even cut off because it was rusty and stuck -- I'm not completely sure, now). No problem! In preparing for my recent move-out, I called after reviewing my contract to find out what I needed to know, and how best to proceed. Jan was informative, helpful, and easy to work with. Tessa was also helpful and friendly on the day of the move -- and then the day after, when I vacated, Jan was efficient and helpful as always. I always had confidence that my things were in good hands at this facility, and the staff stands ready to help resolve any issue that may come up along the way -- truly partnering with and supporting the customer. read more

Over priced. Cost of unit went up after I had rented for 3 months. Was told I had to buy their insurance and renters did not cover anything. Reread contract and found out I was lied to by the management. Called my insurance company and found out I was covered and the contract stated I had to have insurance but not theirs. Many other Public Storage units in the area available for much less than this one. Avoid at all costs. read more

I moved my things in this facility in late July. Paid for insurance which did nothing! They failed to tell me that with the construction they're doing that my things would be covered in construction dust. My televisions, microwave, as well as my mattress and brass table are all ruined. Management attempted to help but I got nothing out of it. The insurance refused multiple times to cover my losses. Now I'm paying to store shoes and clothes because I'm afraid I have to repurchase everything else. I can't move to a home with my property covered in dirt and gravel. I don't recommend this place if you have nice things the orange insurance company they make you get is a complete waste of money. And to be paying $175 a month to have my things ruined really has me upset. My things were new before I moved in to this unit and now they look like I've had them for 10 years. Jan was a great help I wasn't sure was size to get and she showed many different units definitely made the process a breeze

So far, I really have nothing negative to say at all. Just having to deal with putting my life in storage was stressful, but Jan made everything as easy and seamless as possible. She's really great and always has a smile, which is a really big deal for me. The facility itself is as can be expected, I guess. It's in a great location and super convienient for me, I like that it's right in the middle of my favorite shopping area. "First month for $1" is an absolute lie! That is just how they rope you in. They also force you to buy insurance for your unit. We have had our things in storage for just a few months and when I went to pay the bill this month, the rent had gone up by $10. I called to ask, and they said "Oh I'm sorry about that." We are in the process of trying to buy a house, as soon as that goes through we will be pulling all of our stuff ASAP! Would never recommend this company to anyone! Rented a $ 170.00 10x15' unit Mon night. Magically NO discount. Called from Lansing Tues noon when movers said I needed a bigger unit. No matter what I said, they INSISTED I drive down from Lansing immediately to make the change in person. Next am would not do. $270/mo for larger unit had a discount on Monday but not on Tuesday - "only for new customers." You must be kidding! Unit was still totally empty and it was less that 24 hrs later and I was 90 miles away. Couldn't give them a credit card over the phone. Mary tried to help (after I drove there). Jan is enough to make me pay movers just to get away from this VERY unhelpful and very expensive place. Never, ever, ever again. There are other places in the neighborhood. read more
