This would not be my first or last choice for storage. Property management lied about furniture being left behind that wasn't mine and charged me for it. If I could give zero stars I would. When I first began renting my unit, I was paying just over a hundred dollars. In less than a year, the rent on my unit has nearly doubled. They get away with this by putting fine print in the contract that says that the monthly rental price can go up based on market value. I'm not sure how the market value of these units continues to go up. This location is always in some sort of disrepair. I have visited my unit several times and the door to the building where my unit is located is nearly always broken and does not lock. Additionally, the property is always disgustingly dirty and usually has broken or unwanted items strewn about the property grounds. I moved out of my storage unit today and due to the elevator being out of service, had to return with additional people to assist in moving out of my second floor unit. Good luck ever getting somebody on the phone at this location as well. Total joke. This place should be closed down. read more

Exceptionally poor value. They will start you out at a low rate, and increate the rate yearly, or more often. At this time, I pay 4x the cost renting a unit as a new customer. The Gratiot location is dirty, poorly lit, has broken door locks, and broken carts. read more

Where to begin...the building is relatively new, however the elevator has been down for a couple weeks, one of the entrances to the building is broken and has been since before I moved in, the in-unit lights of both units I rent do not work, and haven't since before I moved my belongings in. Every time I have been to my units to pick up or drop off anything, no one has been in the office, I have been there at many, many different times during the day. The rent hikes are astounding, I haven't even been there for 6 months and have had two rent increases on both of my units. That begs the question, where is the money going? Well, really, the question is, which pocket is it going in? Since I have yet to experience any building or grounds improvements, which is what customer service told me the rent increases were for. I highly doubt it, whoever owns the place just wants more money in their pocket. Now if I saw improvements actually taking place to the building, there wouldn't be a problem with the rent increases. Or if someone was in the office during the posted office hours that would also make the rent increases slightly more tolerable. Since I was not informed of the rate increase until after 9:00p local time, I have no way of talking to anyone until tomorrow, when I have to take time out of my workday to talk to customer service to have the rate increase reversed and frozen, so it doesn't happen again. I wonder if I'll get the peach of a rep I talked with last time (please note the extreme level of sarcasm attached to that statement). Very, very, very, very, very dirty. Unit had broken plastic, and all kinds of garbage on the floor when we went to move in. The keys and lock were in there as promised, so whoever put those in, had to have seen the garbage and just left it for us. We were also greeted with the rodent deterrent bags in the corners of the unit, not a good sign. Door to go in the storage building looks like it had been chewed by rats. Carts are locked up front in the office if you happen to go in the evening (after 5), so you are out of luck. We paid for the month, we didn't even use it. Got a unit at another storage facility, too many red flags here. read more

The manager at this location is very rude. The stipulation of moving out is ridiculous they want me to hitch hike or catch the bus to cut the lock but they cut the lock when you owe money maybe they can do that instead of saying it has to be cut off I will never rent from them ever again too much problems to close an account out. read more

this review is for a friend. he wants to make sure people are aware of what ur dealing with at this location. a little over a month ago my friend Tracy Lee Denny went into the office at this public storage and rented a storage unit. but ended going back on Sat the very next day to cancel the unti. he had paid 85 bucks. it's been over a month and they still haven't given him his refund!! Each time he goes up to the office there is always some other excuse ehy they can't give him is money back. If you pay late they put your stuff out. It they can take as much time as they want to issue funds?! The people are rude and their practices are shady! read more

DO NOT USE PUBLIC STORAGE, especially the Common Road and Gratiot location. Until September of 2023, I would have rated this place 5 stars. Then I tried to move out. They screwed up closing my account so badly that now a collection agency is trying to collect from me. Why? Because according to the manager, Heather, who is really really bad at her job, there was a padlock on the unit. a padlock that was not mine and had been there the entire time I rented the unit, even with me calling several times to have it removed. Conveniently, according to Heather, there are no notes on my account regarding the padlock. Oddly, this padlock did not actually lock the unit or compromise the lock that did secure the unit, as I had been dealing with it for 2 years, but suddenly they cannot close my account because of this lock. No phone calls, no emails, no message via the app, just dragging out the closing to charge me more. And when I called three times in the month of September I always spoke to a different person and NOT ONE OF THEM ever mentioned a padlock. Exceedingly poor customer service and communication skills. Heather and her staff absolutely need remediation for their customer service skills. I will never recommend public storage to anyone. read more

Move In Was Horrible. Did an online reservation for a discounted rate. Unit was on the 2nd floor all the way In the back.. I have a chronic condition so I asked if it was possible to get a 1st floor unit. I was told no that I would have to pay more money to move the unit. I only has one person helping me with back issues as well. So I left and waited for two people to get off work. When I came back I asked to see the dolly/cart. I was told no that they close in 15mins. I reexplained my condition to the same worker who was arguing with another customer at the time. I assured her I could bring it back or put it somewhere safe she did not care. I was dismissed and told no. I tried to reach out to a supervisor but was unsuccessful as the person answering the phone was rude as well. Had I not had to spend $70 extra dollars already extending the uhaul time because of the location of the storage unit. I would not have moved forward with this company. I can see going I'm the door they have a tone. I plan on taking my things out as soon as possible. I do not recommend. read more

Nicest people! Great facility! I was panicking because I had to move some things I had in a house in Michigan, but live in Florida. I called this location and they saw me right away! The staff was great. My only problem was that my unit was very far and they locked up the carts after 5 p.m. because people were stealing them (so sad) Make sure you rent your own dolly at UHAUL. Only 7 bucks! That was a lifesaver. I called today because I couldn't get into my account and the people at the Gratiot location couldn't have been nicer; helping me! read more

I was told when I moved in that if I needed to move out before the 5th of a new month that my rent would be pro-rated. Well, That's not true. I was just told by the rude person who answered the phone that I would be responsible for the full $186 for the month of June if I moved out on the 3rd. And then was hung up on. Wow... I shopped around to find a storage unit and came upon this one in Roseville. The folks inside Jen and Rick provide excellent customer service. They showed me the unit as I reserved it at another location. Rick was very good at explaining the contract and insurance. He was prepared at answering all my other questions. Everything started out great. Cheap move in cost and the availability of climate controlled units. However, that is where the pleasantness ended. The climate controlled units on the second floor can only be accessed via elevator and there is only one in the facility. If another tenant is moving in or out it will take you hours to move in a trailer full of items. The lady at the front counter is very rude. My wife asked if we could use one of their carts to assist with moving items that were heavy. They require you to leave your ID with them as if you're a criminal. There was a time when they didn't have any carts and instead of politely telling us they were all being used she informed us rudely, " Were not required to provide them to you!" If we hadn't already moved in we would go somewhere else. And one last kicker. They require you to purchase insurance with a maximum reimbursement of only $5000. So I guess if you have more than $5000 worth of items or something worth more than $5000 you're screwed. Bottom line go somewhere else. read more
