I needed a space last minute due to a move. I went online to the public storage website and was able to locate a facility near my place of residence. The space was pretty easy to book and i was given a reasonable price at the moment. I say at the moment, because I've heard they might raise prices within a couple months. Nonetheless, I checked in on my move in day and was escorted by staff member Sofia. Really kind, and customer friendly. She was very knowledgeable and told me exactly what i needed to know. Luckily I was able to fit everything into my 10x10. I maybe should've gotten something a bit bigger next time. All in all, a great experience with the facility and staff. read more

This review is a long time coming. We had to get a storage when my parents moved in with us because they had A LOT of stuff. Needless to say, Sofia was the most helpful during the process. Rates were very competitive and she even made sure to point out deals that were available . She was practical with my needs. I'm not very good with dimensions so she helped me figure out the right size unit for me. I had random questions here and there and she was always prompt in her response when I called. Overpriced and terrible service. Their hours are just absurd - they close at 6pm during the week and 5pm on weekends. We had to get some stuff out yesterday and left at about 5:05pm. This morning I have a text and and email telling me that is not allowed as it's after hours. So when are people who have jobs supposed to get their stuff? What's the point of self-storage if the hours are so restricted? Might as well go with a full-service option like Clutter. Can't wait to move and get all of my stuff out of this place. read more

The front desk very helpful, you HAVE to purchase the onsite insurance so adds another $10-20 extra to your montly fee. I hate the gate access, at my other unit you can drive up and key in while this facility you have to get out of car both ways, Very narrow street to get into and out of parking lot when others are going in too. Last visit I saw a car back into a pole and ruin her bumper trying to get out of way of someone entering. hope she had insurance. read more

I've had a locker at the Newark location for about ten years. They've been super helpful, friendly and the pricing is fair. Just added a second locker for some business storage and the front desk offered me valuable advice for a smooth move in. If you need storage, you cannot do better. read more

FRAUD ALERT ! This company is advertising 10 x 20 units that are actually 8 x 16. I made this reservation online, got to the property and actually measured the unit to find it was 64% the size of what was advertised. I did find the proper unit at another Public Storage facility, but they would not refund my initial $24 "move-in fee" , even though I never moved in, and also charged me $5 for 1 day. Absolutely no response from management. Apparently no ethics at this company, as I was charged an additional move-in fee as well. Also, they have a habit of raising the rent shortly after you move in. I would definitely try to find an alternative company ! read more

I stored my things here from 2015-2020. The price started at about $180, and progressed to about $300 for an outside 10x10 unit. I am grateful that my items were kept secure and preserved from being tampered with by everything except dust. Quite a bit managed to enter. I believe that a new & thicker bumper along the bottom edge of the roll-up door would prevent most of the trouble from dust in the future. Fortunately, I enclosed most of my belongings in plastic prior to storage here; so nothing was soiled beyond being usable. read more

I explained i had been in a major car accident with back injury not allowing me to work and no govt financial support, and am trying to scrape together $95 for a 5x5 unit. I requested to access to my unit for 2 items i desperately need to get to get tomorrow a gift and An item to sell to pay off the unit but she did not give me a chance to explain what the items were for before she hung up on me. I like this place. The people that work there are always friendly. Last week and rushed to my storage 15 minutes before the gate was locked. The lady that works there walked toward me and friendly reminded me that they were closing in 10 minutes. With limited time, when I was done, I closed the trunk and broke the key that I left in the lock (in the trunk)! I rushed to the office to get a new lock so I can lock my space. Sophia, who works there was so kind!! She just handed me the last lock they had there and told me not to worry about the cost. It was given to me for free! Little things like that make people's day! This was a very unpleasant experience from the beginning.... NOTE-they will not prorate your rent. We moved out on the 4th when we got our new house and had to pay a full month's rent. They can also raise the rent on you anytime. We got a $50 jump after 3 months. It's hit or miss whether or not the office is open, and they are not pleasant to work with when they are there. If you call the main line for help, they will send you all over town to their other locations looking for open offices. Those offices are often closed as well. The gates close early at 6 p.m., so it's difficult to go in for any length of time after work. We went in one evening looking for an item my daughter had mistakenly packed and were locked in at 5:55. We had to wait on hold for 10 minutes to get help getting out of the gate. Then they sent nasty messages about their gate hours like we were criminals. Despite this "security", we found marks on our lock that looked like someone tried to cut it off not long after we moved in. If we didn't have a 3-bedroom house worth of storage in our unit, we would have moved out the first month. We were just stuck because of the cost to move so much stuff elsewhere. :/ read more

This storage facility started out just fine with a reasonable price of $50 a month for a 5 x 10 storage unit. Then fast forward five years now I'm paying $244 a month which is Ludacris for a 5 x 10 storage unit. My advice is not to rent a storage unit from this location. My rent was gradually increasing without any type of explanation why, the hours are not reasonable for someone who works 40 hours a week. Please read this and take my advice do not rent a storage unit from this location. read more

I write reviews about sushi cause i lurrrrrve it. I write reviews about bars cause I have fun at them. A review about self storage? Cause it's just plain warranted! There's really not much you can say about self storage, but if you've ever had a bad experience (which I definitely HAVE) then you can appreciate a great experience. That's what I found with the Public Storage in Newark. I was able to make my reservation online (which saved me money, I later found out - cause the in-person rate was higher!). I'm able to pay my bill online, they're open decent hours. Overall just a very convenient process. And the manager, Dee, is the sweetest woman you will ever encounter. Only heads up I'd say is to bring your own lock, because they require you to put one on when you sign the lease and it's prob better to buy a cheaper one than what they will sell you. Oh, and I had to knock down a star just cause it smells a little like grandpa in the indoor units...but I guess that's to be expected in a storage facility. OK, now get a move on! She didn't explain the charges properly (didn't provide a written estimate till AFTER the payment was done -- there are 5 different things you pay for). My storage unit at this facility was broken into and a majority of my valuable belongs were taken between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2014. Only after I reported this to Public Storage management and the Police Department was I informed that this had happened very recently to other units. One would think a notice would go out to inform customers of the break ins so several people can check their belongings at once to be able to compile as much evidence as possible. I have high hopes that Public Storage Management will do what is right in reimbursing me for my belongings and refunding my monthly fees. This location requires gate code access to enter and leave the facility. As well there are video cameras. It shouldn't be difficult to find video, dates, and paired gate code access times for when these robberies occured. I just found out this week so I undstand this process will take time. Fingers crossed this situation is handled properly and the victims are not put through further stress by Public Storage recommended insurance companies. read more

I have my stuff at this property for quite awhile now. Selling my 3+ bedroom house full of my stuff into someone else's house that only had room for me and not my 20 yrs of stuff. Had 2 units and now down to 1. Takes a lot of time to get rid of stuff. Anywho the Manager at this property has been great, we talk about everything, I really enjoy talking to her. She is very good at her job, organized and the property is always clean.. She has helped me out a lot. She is especially good at dealing with the riff-raff around there. (not just tennents). For the last 4 years I have been helping my dad out with his storage and I have to say, the service I have always gotten from Sofia is 100%. She's knowledgeable, on top of her game and personable! So we got an online quote for 130 for a 10x10 and when we were going to sign up she wanted to charge us 171.00 per mo because it was the last unit and is was higher because of supply and demand. WTF oh and she said that it was the law that we had to have ins on the unit. I just saw a program on TV about that very topic. It's an absolute lie. What a scam. We moved our business inventory from Hayward out of an expensive 6,500 square foot warehouse After selling a lot of the inventory,I visited Public Storage and talked with Sofia the manager about a unit or two to help with the placement of our remaining inventory. She recommended the correct size for two different units. And it has worked out perfectly for me. Plus , my company has saved a lot of money getting out of a lease as well as high rent for a warehouse. We have been at Public Storage for over three years now and NEVER a problem.
