This place is a mess lately. There never seems to be anyone staffing the location--I've called multiple times and left voicemails, but no one ever replies. Tried the live chat too, and it just says they're closed. The facility itself is getting worse. It's been noticeably dirtier, and I've seen some questionable activity that really needs to be reported. I'm disappointed with how this place has gone downhill--it used to be much better. read more

This is not the place to store your things unless u have plenty of money. I've stored my items in storage units across the SE over the last 25 years and this place is the biggest RIP OFF I've ever encountered. Good luck getting property mgr to answer the phone. It never happens. The only way you can discuss ur account is through a chat on their website. If u don't finish typing ur reply fast enough they end the chat and tell u they believe they have answered all your questions. I've never received such poor service in my life! read more

**Horrible Experience at Public Storage on Shetter Ave - Stay Away!** We had an absolutely shocking and unsettling experience at Public Storage on Shetter Ave, and we would strongly advise anyone to stay far away from this location. Here's our story: We reserved a unit online, expecting a simple check-in process. However, when we arrived, the office was closed, we arrived after 6, and we couldn't figure out how to get into the building, The gate code, texted to us, didn't work, fortunately, another customer behind us, let us in, while driving by we noticed a few folks. We asked if they knew our units location, they informed us we were at the 200s, and that our unit was in that area, we got out of our car and walked around, in hopes of finding our unit on our own, as we walked into the 200s building, The night manager popped out from a closed unit, we found this odd, an extension cord ran from the wall outlet to her unit, phones were plugged in, there was a chair at the door in the beginning of the hallway, She opened her unit said her name was Pat, and that she was the night manager, then a small black man came in behind us and addressed the night manager as Naomi!, which was it? we stood there wondering what we got ourselves into, did we get set up to be robbed? had that vibe. So the woman who popped out from inside the completely closed unit. At first, she introduced herself as *Pat*, the night manager. However, as we tried to clarify a few things, we heard another person call her "Naomi," which immediately confused us. Was she *Pat* or *Naomi*? We had no idea who we were dealing with. The property manager we dealt with was a Tall African woman. as Naomi (or Pat) addressed our concerns, and questions, she was rude and dismissive, we asked if she knew anything about our reservation. (our heads were spinning) But the situation quickly escalated when we noticed some very disturbing things in the unit she was in. Firstly, she openly prepared a marijuana cigarette in front of us while sitting on a made bed! There was a strong, unpleasant odor coming from the side building, where a homeless man had clothing, dirty, filthy clothing scattered all over the floor, blocking the side entrance, when we walked over to investigate, the smell only got worse. It was overwhelming. As we got closer, we saw Naomi (or Pat, we still weren't sure) sitting next to a bag in her/a unit. The bag contained several bottles of urine, which was disgusting. To make matters worse, Naomi (or Pat) was openly preparing drugs in front of us, which was both disturbing and dangerous. We were completely shocked by the situation. When we decided to leave and get out of there, we witnessed Naomi (or Pat) again--this time pouring urine down a public sewage drain right outside the building. We could smell it as we drove by, we didn't realize we wouldn't be able to get out of the exit gate without a code. Finally, someone other than the people we encountered let us follow them out. The whole thing felt surreal and unsafe. We couldn't believe we were witnessing all of this at a supposedly professional storage facility. On top of everything, homeless individuals were loitering around the property, in various places in, the 200s building, drinking alcohol and smoking. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. Honestly, we have no idea how this place is still in business with everything we saw. We strongly recommend that you *avoid* this Public Storage location at all costs. The unprofessionalism, the disturbing activities, and the unsafe environment are all red flags. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to store your things. This place is a nightmare. Stay far away from this location! read more

I went to my unit one evening about an hour or so before they closed to grab a few things. A man waiting at the front gate followed me in (great security). I drove up to my unit to find four or five people sitting around and inside a unit, presumably living there. Beyond the fact that the lease clearly states that you can't sleep or live in the unit - my real concern was that they were all smoking cigarettes inside the unit that shared a wall with mine. So much so, that you can see black smoke stains on the roof of my unit near the wall. If I wanted my mattress to smell like smoke I wouldn't bother storing it. I called management and they told me I could stop by the front office for a "free air freshener" the next time I was there during business hours. Honestly pretty shocking, and abundantly clear they could care less about me or my belongings that I probably signed 10 different forms to promise I wouldn't smoke/live in the unit - including a ridiculous insurance fee that is way too time consuming to file a claim for. On top of that, it smelled like straight up urine in and around the unit. The final straw here is a lovely email I received a few days ago announcing they were going to raise my rent. For what - who knows? Definitely not for maintaining a safe and clean facility as they promised. Wish I could give zero stars. The only plus I have is that the woman who helped me move in was friendly enough. read more

I've had issues with this location over the past ~2.5 years. When we first moved in, I chose their insurance (insurance is required) because of the convenience. I did find out later my renters insurance covers the storage unit, so I went in to cancel the insurance. It seemed legit, I signed my name on the ipad and everything. To my frustration, the following three billing periods I was charged for the stupid insurance. I already took time out of my schedule to stop by and cancel it, and now I had to make additional time to correct their screw up. But in the end I was comped by their insurance company for the charges. Save everything. We pay a premium because we have a "climate controlled" unit. During the Florida summer the air conditioner inside the building broke and for nearly two months we complained (we couldn't have been the only ones). We were given the old smile and nod and were quickly forgotten, I'm sure. It was miserable and a lot of old photographs were severely damaged due to the heat and humidity inside the unit. Do you think we were comped for their screw up and laziness? Nope. (Yes, we asked.) I also had a light out in the same unit, and it required the staff to change it because it was behind a protective shield. Again, it took about two months before the light bulb was replaced. They just kept blowing me off, so I'd have to carry a lightstand to the unit (even during the day) just so I could see my stuff. Was I comped for their screw up and laziness? Ha! But, by far the worst quality is the way this place raises their prices. It is absolutely ridiculous. When my original lease expired my bill went up $25 a month, and is now $50 over the original lease price. That's significant-- $600 a year, or three months in "extra" payments to my bottom line. Next year I'm sure it will increase to at least $75.00 over the introductory lease. These bastards don't play around. Imagine that x100s of units. It's pure profit for the owners, which is crap because they should hire more help if they're going to raise prices. They are significantly understaffed and nobody seems to be worried about it. The rent I pay in a very nice part of town near here hasn't gone up a single cent during the same timeframe, yet a little 20x10 foot cube, with unbearable heat, humidity and near total darkness is worth a small fortune, and I'm the sucker paying for it. Also, when you decide to move out you're charged for the entire month. So naturally most people wait until the final days of the month to move. Sure, you can move the stuff out of your unit, but good luck getting help in the office to terminate your lease. Half of Jacksonville is in there doing the same thing for the same reason. They got you by the short and curlies and they are in business to scrape as much cash out of you as possible. Unless you have gobs of disposable income, I suggest you shop around. We are. read more

My husband and I were moving storage locations from southside blvd to the beaches and because his name was already on the old "public storage" on SS he wasn't allowed the first timer fall discount. Long story she allowed me to be removed from the old one and become the new name on the beaches location-- allowing me to use the discount. The staff that works in the front office (Pat & Heather) are AWESOME!! They are nice and helpful and really go out of their way to help. They even stayed open a little late to help us get our unit. HOWEVER, price of the storage unit went up significantly every month. Our unit started at $123 per month and ended at $145 per month - that is close to a 20% increase in less than a year. read more

Have raised rent over $50 dollars per month, required insurance didn't cover damage to expensive wool rugs destroyed by moths in our first air conditioned moth infested unit. Today went in unit and found rat droppings all over the place and cardboard boxes and camping air mattresses with holes chewed through them. Just checked "insurance" they require - only covers up to $250 in damage, with a $100 deductible - no wonder they don't worry about vermin control. When I asked if they had professional rat traps out the lady said no, but offered me some rat poison packets to throw in the unit. Top flight after the fact system. read more
