We were given the best seat in the house, which was a bay window with breathtaking views of the Matterhorn. Our waitress was very friendly and also joined us for conversation around the fire. She knew everything and ingredients on the menu, which answered many of our 5 course meal questions. After we finished our glasses, we were escorted to the table where we enjoyed a meal that was fresh with locally grown ingredients. Each dish complimented the next and paired well with the accompanied drinks. The dessert was a delightful chocolate finish to a meal well prepared. If I am in Zermatt again, all make sure to add this place to my list.

Like all Michelin star fine dining restaurants, this is all about sensory dining on a menu designed to focus on the flavor and ingredients of the region. Modernist cuisine plays nicely with the traditional. Note: Prefix menus include a full vegetarian option. Any item can be ordered ala carte as well. Exceptional amuse course in three bites teases you with the taste of mountain herbs to cheese, to pickles and breads. Menu descriptions are deceivingly simple guaranteeing a surprise as each dish is delivered and tasted. The "Risotto"; mushrooms, seven mountain herbs and the incredibly creamy, aged Acquerello rice (gratis from the chef), excellent. Vibrant green in color, mounted with Swiss butter to finish. Very creamy, exploding with familiar and new flavors including an pronounced herb similar in aroma to the original Ricola. Baby mushrooms sautéed in rich butter and aggressively seasoned in contrast to raw sliced white mushrooms adorn the rice. The earthiness of the raw mushrooms and it's lack of richness adds contrast. Such a simple but rich and delicious dish. "Edible Crab", a trio of fresh picked and simply formed rounds of crab topped by mysterious pickled this and that in an intensely flavored soup of green beans and zesty lemon finished with drops of citrus oil. The pleasing medicinal notes of the pickles serve to smooth the briny, oceanic flavor of the crab. So many foreign flavors that blend beautifully together. Outstanding. "Green Beans" - the essence of a bean. The highly concentrated puree with beans in various states of being cooked or pickled. Tomato adds bright acidity to the refreshing, intriguing "soup". Escalope (Venison loin), amazing. Simply seasoned with salt and cooked rare, excellent. Gamey in all the right ways. Extremely tender, dense, juicy and flavorful. It pairs well with the tart mountain cranberry sauce that heightens the pleasing metallic notes and a uber rich butter poached king oyster mushroom that brings meaty decadence. Finally the wiener schnitzel, done the way it should be. Very thin slices of tender veal surrounded by a golden brown, fluffy crust oozing with rich butter flavor. Impressive in its utter simplicity. Petit fours and assortment of incredible Swiss chocolate round out the meal. Exceptionally friendly service lacking any stuffiness. Extremely well chosen wine list focuses on the wines of the country. An excellent meal that showcases the region and what Swiss food can be elevated to.

From the moment we walked in, the service was flawless , attentive without being intrusive, polished yet warm. Every detail was taken care of, and it set the stage for what turned into one of the most memorable dining experiences I have ever had. Over the course of a three-hour dinner, we were taken on what felt like a culinary firework show. Each course arrived as a small masterpiece, building on the last with creativity, precision, and flavor that kept surprising us again and again. It's rare to say this, but there wasn't a single dish that missed the mark. Every bite felt intentional and elevated. Good words can't even capture how special this evening was. I loved every single minute of it , the pacing, the pairings, the artistry of the plates, and the way the staff made us feel like the only table in the room. Michelin may have given this place one star, but in my book it shone as brightly as three.

The evening started with outstanding cocktails,4 amuse bouche & amazing bread served on hand carved mountain platters. The 3-way scallop, pasta & dessert courses were extraordinary. There were so many different courses that I will try to highlight the best or most surprising. A pea soup with a pea puree, a pea consomme, and actual peas. Interesting presentation, and very pea-y. (I like that word, ha ha) A fish mousse with a thyme cream sauce. This one was very simply presented and unadorned with any color or texture whatsoever. For a chef to make something so plain in these times shows either laziness and unimaginativeness, or it shows guts. In this case it was guts. This dish was so aromatic and flavorful, and the texture was fantastic. Another soup with girolle mushroome and a foie gras cream. The fois gras was not overpowering, quite subtle. A tomato "tartare" made to look like beef tartare, with anise flavor and microgreens, and also a frozen slab of tomato water on top, which you busted through with your fork to get at the lovely tomato below. It was fantastic and quite inventive. The obligatory cheese course, followed by 3 different desserts, randomly presented to different people at the table. So of course we had to share. We simply passed our plates to the right. All were great, one was a bit fruity without much variety, but still very good. Then the mignardises came. Oh my. Explode-in-your-mouth cylinders of chocolate with liquors inside. Wow. Other jelly-like things, too many different things to remember! Our wine was divine, the service impeccable. At times there were 4 or 5 people attending to us. (we were a party of 10) I highly recommend this restaurant if you ever get a chance to be in the French Alps!

Even though we had reservations, I do not think you need it for lunch. I might have gotten a bit paranoid from the Michelin Star restaurants in Paris that require you to wear a jacket (men). There is no dress code here (at least for lunch) but would not recommend wearing gym clothes. We started with a salad and ravioli as appetizers. I went with the risotto, my wife went with the beef filet and my mom went with the wild shrimp pasta. All dishes were good (I tasted all of them) but my favorite was the risotto. If you enjoy salty food then risotto is for you. The wild shrimp was unique due to the cuttlefish ink. Although the wild shrimp didn't have a strong taste overall. Finally we ended our lunch with the mille feuille and the dark chocolate cake. The mille feuille was the better choice, it was on the lighter side. Overall a great place for lunch and here are my ratings: Salad 7 Ravioli 7.5 Lobster Risotto 8.5 Wild shrimp 7.5 Steak 8 Millufulle 8.5 Dark chocolate 7.5

The spiced ice cream was equally marvelous, with heavy notes of ginger and lemongrass to balance the rich souffle. The other dishes: lobster risotto, chicken and mushroom, and pepper gazpacho with lightly cured fish (the server and I were having slight language barrier, so I didn't get the specific species) were all expertly executed, though not too memorable as they are as good as you'd expect a good version of those dishes to be.

Here are a few few things we noticed: - When I made the reservation, I had seen a picture in Yelp that made it look like the outdoor seating was in a front patio but beware because that is the patio of another restaurant and the entrance to Atmosphere is next to it. While it was comfortable inside, specify the outdoor Terrace if at all possible because that is along the river and is very beautiful. - My wife ordered from one of the two fixed price menus, but I decided to order à la carte, which is definitely more expensive. - My wife started with the Alpine salad, which was very delicious. I got the French onion soup, which is supposedly one of their specialties, but I just found it average. - For a main courses, I got the beef tenderloin with seared fois gras... it was amazingly! My wife got the hotbox cheese and liked it well enough. - For her, the highlight of the meal was probably the blueberry tartlet. I got a trio of sorbets which were also very fresh and good. - Service was very very good. And the atmosphere is cozy and warm inside. Bottom line: Dining at Atmosphere was a great way to start our vacation!

I booked this as a birthday dinner (I.e. a very distinct date) and shared the date/time, number to call, and instructions to change the reservation for my group (just in case). They did not call or text to confirm, simply sent an automated reminder email to justify the booking and charge (which was missed because we were on a ski holiday). The restaurant manager was extremely rude and made no attempt to accommodate. I tried to find a date in the future to reschedule (even asked openly what is the next available date was after being shot down when I provided suggested dates) and the restaurant manger simply said "there is no availability". Clearly I was not welcomed. No service recovery was offered, no accommodation for a future reservation was made, simply a firm message that I will be charged $772 for a dinner I never experienced because the meal was already prepared (this was a 3 hour tasting and they said all the food was already made and it would be thrown in the trash). This is not Michelin star service. They do not deserve their star after the rude, unaccommodating, and non-proactive experience they provided. Given how stern and quick to defend their cancellation policy and fees the restaurant manager was, I assume this establishment has encountered this situation before. The right thing to do was to recognize your guests' needs, offer to accommodate, and recover services. I walked away feeling robbed, unseen, and completely violated by a team that was more interested in taking my money vs. doing the right thing and providing Michelin star service. Where was the text or call to confirm the reservation? Where was your service mindset and empathy? Where was the anticipation of needs and the propensity to delight? I have lost faith in the Michelin star rating system after this. You have corrupted the entire institution by getting away with this.
