I used Prowns about 15 years ago to have vertical blinds installed in my house and they did an outstanding job from beginning to end. I now needed a new front screen door and after doing my research there are many contractors that will install a new front door or screen door that they usually purchase from Home Depot which sells the cheapest screen or front doors available and then they install it. I decided to give Prowns a call and find out if they installed screen doors which they do. This is a family business that still takes pride in their work and stands behind their work as well so I thought I'd give them a try again. They gave me a quote which was reasonable and in line with the other contractors that had also given me a quote so I decided to use them again. Also the company that manufactured the door is known for their high quality work didn't disappoint as their screen door is very well made and rock solid. Along the way the original company that gave Prowns the quote had changed their line of screen doors and the new door was more expensive but Prowns being a reputable company honored their original quote and didn't charge me a penny more, how many companies would do that! In any case the door was custom made (all their doors are custom designed to fit your exact door opening) and it fit perfectly and looks great and they showed up exactly when they said they would and did the install. A couple of days later I noticed that the door didn't close as it should, meaning that the door didn't close far enough for the bolt to close to the point where it should have been inside the door frame to secure it in place. I called them up and described the problem and they made an appointment for their tech to come back and fix the problem. They came back and adjusted the problem but within a day the problem has returned. I called them again and told them the problem wasn't quite fixed and they told me a tech would be back this afternoon, hopefully they'll be able to fix the root of the problem. Unfortunately these kind of issues happen when installing new materials in older homes or during the summer when building materials tend to expand and contract because of the temperature extremes that happen on a daily basis. My be point is that when you do business with a reputable company they'll come back and fix the problem until it's resolved whereas if you're lucky a freelance contractor might come back once or not at all. Prowns is servicing the issue with the problem concerning the door they sold me and that's old fashioned quality and honesty that is indeed rare especially in the field of home contracting. If you need any work concerning doors or windows or window treatments these are people that you want to do business with, which is probably why they've been in business about 75 years or more and anyone who's ever read my reviews knows that I'll give my fellow consumers the straight dope when it comes to a service because I don't like being taken advantage of and I don't want it to happen to anyone else. read more

I have a Commercial Construction Company that has worked in Monmouth County for over 67 years, and just tried to get a quote for Shutters for a rental property in Red Bank. I was told that since the owner of the property does not live at the property, that " we would not be a good fit". Not a very professional way to do business. The attitude I got made it seem like Prowns is above doing work on a rental property. I will not waste my time in the future attempting to get any quotes. Recently had work performed by Prown's, which consisted of the installation of a kitchen door leading to the garage, a new front door, storm door and the replacement of sliding glass shower doors. Everything from Sales, courtesy of Dave, who was knowledgeable, thorough and patient to Louie and team who did an outstanding installation of all the doors. For the kitchen door leading to the garage, Louie had to build up a saddle, which looks outstanding. Installation was scheduled without incident, Louie and team arrived promptly. The estimated time to receive the window was accurate as was the install date. Their crew was neat, knowledgeable and friendly even on the bitterly cold date it was that date. I don't normally get so frustrated that a review is necessary, but in this case one is. Back in September I attended a gala for a wonderful non-profit where donors provide gifts on behalf of their business as a sort of advertisement for their business and also to help the community organization. As I attend many of these, I made my usual donations; but I also won one which was great. After looking at the gift, it wasn't one which I hadn't truly any interest in but figured why not I can put it towards shutters. None the less, I figured I'd add new shutters to my home and use the Gift Certificate I received ($100.00). Figured perfect, because at HD, Lowes and other Big retailers this is about the right amount; so I'll just be paying for the labor of install. Not a problem at all. But after inquiring online and waiting three days for a response, (called in between too) I finally heard back that they don't service my area. They tole me to try another company. A company which they work with, but would not honor the certificate I got from them of course. None the less, I called and left a message and also again wrote back and inquired about just using the certificate to purchase the materials only. -waited 2-3 days for a response on this one too. (But since it's not rocket science to hang some shutters, figured not a problem this would be perfect and the entire certificate would cover the cost and then some of the materials.) Was hoping that would be great and afterwards I'd be able to brilliant post. But obviously that didn't work out, after calling to inquire on materials only and sending several emails back and forth on preferred size, color etc and not getting responses for about two weeks; I finally received a response with a quote. A quote of almost 2 times more than any other retail company I'd researched. And yes this was just for materials.... NO INSTALL. I asked if they priced matched to get them a chance to retract my ticket shock. But I was then told that the manufacturer they use doesn't allow them to buy directly hence they would not price match and or go lower. Error made was that they provided me the Manufacturer name and when I looked on the manufactures website it was LOWER than what I was quoted... yes more than 2.5 LOWER to be exact directly from who they said they got it from. Yikes!!! Well, none the less; I'm truly not sure what was worse, 1. the fact that they provided a non-usable gift certificate, or 2. they made no notes of any stipulations on the certificate, or 3. that the communication was horrendously delayed (almost 3.5 wk to finally get a real answer), or 4. that again the quote I received was almost 2.7 times MORE than any others. Orrrrrr #5- all of the above ++ the fact that because I wasn't buying a high ticket item they denied basic customer service etiquette. I'm thinking number 5 wins. read more
