Sent my BYU son here for a mission check. Called them myself and submitted insurance. Talked with the office manager. My son left on a mission and the unpaid balance is sent to collections. He had no way of knowing this and came home to a $160 collections bill. the The accounts manager Stacy was defensive and rude. After 3 calls and contention- they settled with discounting a whopping $30 and left me to pay the excessive fee's. Terrible to do that to a missionary. So greedy to not reach a parent and send a missionary to collections for not paying a minimal co-payment. read more

I went here twice for a checkup and cleaning, and both times they falsely said I needed 6 fillings (I didn't get the work done the first time, so they were the same 6 teeth both times). I have never had a cavity before, nor have I had any dental work done other than getting my wisdom teeth removed, so I was wary of their diagnosis. I had them send me the X-rays and sent them to a dentist friend of mine who said he couldn't find a single thing wrong with my teeth. A few months later, going in for another cleaning (at a different dentist) I asked about it and he also said I had great teeth, no work that needed to be done. My dentist friend warned me that an unfortunate forthcoming practice these days is to over diagnose in order to make more money. Glad I trusted my gut and didn't go with Provo Dental Care. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, they may drill holes in you that are completely unnecessary. read more

This place is a rip off! Stay away! They are located in the prime location as a student you want it to be close. I got my first crown here and payed and arm and a half. The job was decent. The doctor uninterested in explaining the procedure to me. He just started working on my teeth. Arrgh! They charge 3x times more for procedures. read more

An account of my first time patient experience at Provo Dental Care: As you can see from my 1 star rating, I was completely dissatisfied. First of all, I was waiting for SO long. No waiting time in the lobby because I had to fill out paperwork but I'm referring to wasted time sitting in the dental chair. I was there for over an hour but only a combination of about 15 minutes of actual dental work was performed. The rest of the time was wasted in clarifying a confusion with my insurance plan, which I thought was the point of all the paperwork to begin with. Over 30 minutes of time was wasted waiting for the actual doctor to give me an examination. This place is so unorganized that the doctor was extracting wisdom teeth while I waited for a simple cleaning examination! As for the 15 minutes of actual dental work - painful. I was unaware that the teeth scraping involved my gums as well (sarcasm). I think she caught me wincing in pain so she lightened up on the scraping and didn't even get to all my teeth. One of the assistants applied the fluoride without making sure my bib was attached around my neck so my shirt had drool and fluoride stains on it afterwards. The assistant actually addressed my ridiculous waiting time and waived the fluoride service fee...a whopping $20 value. However, my dental insurance covered the entire visit so that was meaningless. The lack of organization was the most frustrating part. I can deal with the pain but the wasted time was unbearable and the fact that I had three different dental assistants dealing with me was enough for me to get on Yelp and express my discontent. All in all, avoid this place. I've had so many better experiences at the dentist's office. I usually go every six months for cleaning and check-ups but you can bet that Provo Dental Care won't be seeing me when it comes time. read more

I'm not impressed with these dentists. Myself and several friends have been there. Their work was poor, they messed up the billing, pushed expensive services and the wait time was horrible. An employee there told me that almost any positive review you read about this office is written by somebody from their office because they are paid to write positive reviews. This place is the most mismanaged dental office you will ever have to endure. With all the choices out there do not go there. Dr Neilson will act like you just pulled him of the golf course to trouble him with your petty tooth ache. He will give you half interested answers and then turn you over to his staff. Martha is the biggest joke for a dental assistant, if she doesn;t drown you with her water pic, she will leave your gums bleeding or let molding gel go so far down your throat you have to jump out of the chair to not be choked to death. They have already replace all there incompetent office staff last year and have started with a new batch of them. And it will be a miracle if they can get your billing correct, you may have to assist them with the forms. I had invisilign braces about two years ago, it was interesting to watch Dr Nielson read the instructions like he was putting together a table from IKEA and could never really get it right..... the place is a joke....they do not know what they are doing with invisalign braces.....I am starting over with a dentist that actually cares about his work and the finished product...and oh yes.. a retainer is not available when you are done so everything moves back to it's old place within months...but he claims he finished "most " of the treatment......... It's hard to read the bad reviews for this place, I can't help but wonder how much of their bad experience was their fault. I have been coming to this dental officer for nearly 5 years and have never had a bad experience. I used to visit Young family dental in Orem until they told me I needed 600 dollars in work done. I figured I would get a second opinion. After visiting Provo dental care, they informed me that the work I needed done was very minimum and ended up being only 100 dollars. I have always been treated well and I can't imagine going anywhere else. On the bad side, the billing lacks a bit, it is sometimes hard to get a straight answer but I feel they always do all they can to resolve any issues. read more

In their defense, they probably have a lot of student loans, and those aren't just going to go away. But, that being said, I'm not particularly fond of a dentist seeing $$$ on my chiclets. The teeth cleaning experience was decent. The cleaning lady even had a machine that checked each of my teeth, which would make a noise if there was a cavity. I thought that was cool. She finished that and told me she didn't think I had any cavities but the dentist would come and do his check up. He comes in and I suddenly have 4 cavities!!! Furthermore, he goes on to explain that I have a weird gum disease. SUPER URGENT! the proper course of action was to graft skin from the top of my mouth onto the gums. and i quote "if you dont have this procedure your teeth are going to fall out of your head" OMG! REALLY?? an alarm went off in my head and I felt like i was being sold something. they took me into a room so we could discuss a payment plan. thats when i knew i was being hustled. the office is super unorganized so as I sat there waiting for 15 minutes to have them sell me on dental services, I just walked out of the office and nobody noticed. 6 months later, i went to a family friend dentist in salt lake. I had NO CAVITIES and nothing about my gums caught his attention. Two years later, I asked him about my gums. he pointed out that there was some recession but nothing serious. It has since been 4 years since that visit, and I have 1 cavity filled. and my teeth are all still where they should be. if youre sitting i the dentists chair waiting to have your teeth cleaned, you need to walk...no, don't walk...you need to RUN out of that office and NEVER RETURN read more

My son is in his first year of BYU. He is getting ready for his mission service. He went to Provo Dental for a cleaning and to get his dental papers in order for his mission. After the cleaning and x-rays, they told him that he had three cavities and that they wanted to fix them at that same visit. They also said he needed 5 more sealants (he already has four sealants). He called me on his cell phone and asked what he should do. I was very surprised to hear that he had three cavities; he's never had a cavity before and he's been very regular on his twice a year dental cleanings here at home. I told him not to have the work done and to come home for the work to be done with his regular dentist over Christmas vacation. He saw his dentist here at home with more x-rays. Our dentist went tooth by tooth showing them each to me on his large computer screen so we could see them together. There were no cavities to be found. This dental office is dishonest!! My wife and I took advantage of their introductory offer - $38 for a cleaning and X-Rays. The cleaning was thorough, and the wait-time was minimal However, I am concerned about the ethical nature of Provo Dental Care's management. My wife (23) has never had a cavity. After examining her teeth, Dr. Nielsen recommended that she have 3 occlusal fillings. After my own cleaning, Dr. Nielsen indicated that I needed an occlusal filling on my number 18 molar. When I asked him to describe how advanced the cavity was, he avoided the question and simply stated that it needed to be filled as soon as possible. Further questioning yielded similar results. Be careful at this office - make sure to get a second opinion on all recommended procedures. If possible, avoid Provo Dental Care all together. Protect your teeth! read more

Dr Moody is awesome, but his billing staff will bungle your account with a smile on thier faces. I've been a patient of Dr. Moody's for many years and I have no complaints about his skills or bed side manner. Within the last 3 years, i've had nothing but trouble with the bills: You can pre-pay your portion of the bill up front and after the insurance pays their portion, they will NOT notify you of any outstanding balance. They cannot give you an itemized bill. When I demanded an itemized bill, i got a photo copy of accounting ledger sheets with hand written entries. They will send you a (first time notice) over due statement months after the services charges have started to accrue. They will intermingle family charges into one account and then they cannot separate out any outstanding bills. Good luck with Provo Dental Care accounts department and don't think you are paid up with them, because they will send you a bill 6 or 8 months after service for some amount that basically comes from a set of dice played on a felt table with finance charges applied. read more

My family and I just left Provo Dental. We've been visiting Dr. Nielsen and Dr. Moody for 6 years. Their billing department is terrible! I had to call Provo Dental after every billing cycle and I have good insurance. Dr Nielsen replaced a filling on one of my back molars and left a gap that needs constant flossing. After my last check up I vowed not to go back. Expensive and unnecessary dental work was recommended (I went elsewhere for a second opinion). Three months later I'm still calling because they haven't billed my insurance. They told me on the phone my problems are a result of employment restructuring within their office. I'll never know if things improve. Learn from me and avoid this office. read more

My daughter received a free dental exam and was informed she had two very bad cavities which needed filling right away -- among other things. We had her get a second opinion elsewhere and her teeth were all COMPLETELY fine. Please warn your friends and loved ones. read more

Went to this office several years ago and had 2 crowns done. Within the year I had to have them redone. Have never had a problem since. Do not mean to be scary but I would get a second opinion after being seen here, especially if it is a difficult and expensive procedure. read more

I unfortunately chose this dentistry to get my dental work done for my mission papers. They told me I needed some fillings even though my teeth felt great, I agreed to do it because I needed my papers done before I could send them to my bishop. The dentist drilled my teeth too much and he reached the nerve endings, I raised my hand to let him know I was in pain but he told me he was almost done and he kept drilling. I went home in so much pain that not even the pain killers they gave me could numb it. I couldn't eat for a whole week and I'm sure they hit a nerve because I couldn't even open my mouth completely for a whole month. I kept calling and telling them about this but they would always brush me off and tell me I was fine. I went back to them because one of the teeth that he had filled was hurting too much for me to chew properly, the dentist told me that it was because "the cavity had already hit the nerve" and that I would need a root canal. He told me it was additional work and that they would have to charge me even though it was his fault! He had drilled my teeth so much that he had hit the nerve and that is why I needed a root canal. I am only giving this a one star because it is required to place feedback; otherwise it would be a zero. I had my teeth "whitened" at Provo Dental Care just before I went on vacation April 2014. At the end of the whitening process, I was miserable (as to be expected) but my teeth did not improve at all. I was out of the country for two weeks and when I returned I called to express my concern and disappointment. I was treated with indifference and disrespect and generally felt like I had no business complaining. The women I spoke to on the phone lacked empathy and was more focused on reminding me that I had a balance, even though I made payment arrangements and was current. I was very upset and when I pointed this out, they basically said tough luck and one told me that it may not be to my liking but they provided a service and I needed to pay for it. I guess they don't understand how upsetting it is to pay for poor service. read more

I have good teeth. I needed to see a dentist ASAP. They gave me complimentary laughing gas...I don't know why because I am not afraid of the dentist. I reacted a little crazy and I feel the dentist took advantage of me by saying I needed to have a root canal (when the tooth wasn't even bothering me). I told him to do whatever he needed because I was laughing and crying from the gas and didn't know what was going on. I even told him to charge me while I was still on the gas so I didn't know the total and he gladly did and charged me for all the work he did and was going to to do in the future. So I went back to him since I already paid for it. The work he did on that tooth and another got infected. I went back several times and every time the office staff was telling other patients they needed several root canals or the work they had done was infected and so they were returning to the office. The dentist referred me to an endodontist in the SAME building. I think they have some deal to refer patients to each other. I do not think I needed the root canal in the first place, but now my tooth is ruined and still in pain since that day. Many of the office staff are also very rude. DO NOT go to this dentist. read more
