The vet showing up when I have a appointment. Calling me 4 mins after my scheduled time to ask if I was coming to my cat's appt. Telling me they are short staffed and I would have to reschedule. I think it's because Dr. Bedford was running late to be in the office and acted like it was my fault. I didn't like how they treated me on the phone and I will not be coming back. read more

I rarely write reviews, but this was an absolutely terrible experience. We brought our puppy in to her first appointment with strong suspicions of a UTI. The vet took a urine analysis, and recommended we do blood work due to a clear urine sample. However, the results did not come in until 3+ days later, and I only found out because I kept calling to check on it. The vet was out, so the techs recommended going to urgent care because results showed a terrible UTI and other urgent concerns. After calling urgent care and finding out they required another lab test to prescribe antibiotics (which they said should only take a couple hours... evidence of how uncommon it is for lab results to take this long), we contacted our breeder who after looking at the results, drove over 2 hours to pick her up and take her to her own vet ASAP to get her started on antibiotics immediately. The breeder and her personal vet STRONGLY recommended we find another vet after allowing our puppy to go that long without antibiotics which likely contributed to the poor blood results. They said they had never heard of a vet taking that long and it would be inhumane to let someone go that long without antibiotics. After all that, the vet finally reached out on Saturday, 2 days AFTER getting results to send a prescription, with no urgency, and no comments on the concerning blood work. I am honestly appalled by this vet and wouldn't recommend her to absolutely anyone. read more

I've been going to Providence Square Vet since I moved to Virginia 6 years ago. I've always felt like my dog and cats have received incredible care every time I bring them in. Caring staff, almost never a wait after my appointment time. Their facility is clean and efficient. I always recommend this Veterinary clinic to anyone who asks and any of my clients who buy a home in the area. read more

Providence Vet - Waiting for Ghost's appointment in my car since COVID-19 has forced them to do contactless appointments. - Veterinarians Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

We have been going to this vet for quite some time. A couple of years ago the business was bought by a new vet. In the last year or so we have shown up for appts. and been told that the vet was not in yet. I believe they said she lives in Richmond. Each time this happened we were asked if we wanted to wait or reschedule. Apparently she gets stuck in traffic coming from Richmond and can't get in on time. But this has happened to us 4 different times. We even started making the appts. later in the morning but to no avail. I have had one of my cats in twice in the last 2 months to get vaccinations and couldn't get them because there was not vet there to examine her. Our time is just as important to us as hers it to her. I am sorry to leave the practice because the rest of the staff there is great. All the girls are pleasant, easy to talk to and help whenever they can. However, I will not continue to put my cats through the trauma of going to the vet for nothing. We make the appts. trusting that the vet will be available. We get there, wait for a half hour only to be told that the vet is stuck in traffic and they can't say definitely when she will be in. read more

We just got a new puppy so I have been calling all over the place to find a good vet. I had talked to Providence Vet over the phone before ever setting up an appointment and the lady was super nice and gave me quotes on every visit for his shots. I was excited to go to his first visit and to have an established vet for him. Unfortunately, we got there for our appointment early and ended up waiting even longer than our scheduled time(there was also no one even there aside from one other lady) We got called to the room and the vet assistant pet our puppy and asked some questions, she then said I'm going to take him back to the girls because they would love to see them. We said Okay- just thinking that she was going to have them pet and meet him and bring him back. She then took him to the back and we waited ... and then I heard him bark and shortly after that she brought him back into the room and said he barked because she was blowing on his ear... She then said the doctor is finishing up her notes and will be in to see him to check him top to bottom. We said Great and she left... The doctor finally came in and introduced herself and was just petting our puppy and said he looked good and healthy and asked if we had any concerns. (??) We said no, just wanted to make sure he got checked and is healthy since this is his first ever vet appointment. She then said alright well it was nice meeting you guys and then left the room... We were then just sitting there waiting for someone to tell us Something ! No one came back into the room so we ended up walking back to the front and were confused because they hadn't mentioned anything to us about him getting his shots or anything. Apparently "taking him back to see the girls" is code for he's getting his vaccinations and the doctor is going to have a look at him. I'm not sure if everything is typically that way but we had never been there, therefore, some communication about what they were going to do with him would have been great rather than us playing a guessing game. Will also not be recommending to anyone. read more

We love Proevidence Square Veterinary Clinic! All three of our dogs go here, and I absolutely trust them with my babies. Dr. Scarborough is great, and the staff is so sweet and friendly. Prices are pretty reasonable and, most importantly, I really love how they always follow up! Whether it's a serious or minor issue, they always call to see how my dog is doing after a visit. I feel like they care and they are really thorough. We were lucky to have found them when we moved here! Update: They seem to be under new management. My dog's meds can't be done in-house anymore (I had to go to a pharmacy), and they just arent as great at following up like they used to be. Most of the staff had changed as well. We will not be going back. read more

I was so hopeful about bringing my nine year old Pomeranian here. Instead, we had a terrible experience. Scout has a collapsed trachea and another couple things that were discovered by her current vet, with whom I am thrilled. First, we were sent looking for cough medication that was impossible to find. So I returned to their office, where I was given a different cough medication. When I called the next day, they didn't even have a record of the fact that they'd given Scout this medication. The left hand clearly didn't know what the right hand was doing. And when I called for test results, the woman at the front desk treated me like a nuisance. When a vet tells you the results will be in within a day, it's pretty reasonable to call after two days when you haven't received results. When Dr Bedford eventually e mailed Scout's results, I responded with questions and quite literally never got a response. (Even after reaching out a second time) I've been a pet parent for many years and this was, by far, the worst veterinary experience I've had. We are now with Ghent Animal Hospital and they have been WONDERFUL and so easy to work with. I'm so grateful to have found them, and would not recommend Providence to anyone. I'm not someone who reviews on Yelp. But this time I absolutely needed to. I hope no one else needs to have this experience. read more

FIND ANOTHER VETERINARIAN - THIS ONE CAN'T BE TRUSTED!!! I took my cat & dog here to get a check-up & vaccinations. I spent over $200 that visit. A few months later I went back to get Health Certificates done for International travel to Mexico for both pets by the veterinarian that owns Providence Square Veterinary Clinic. I spent almost $300 that visit. My certificates, at that time, had to be sent by next day delivery along with another overnight envelope for the certificates to be returned. That cost over $70. A few days later, I was notified that the entire certificates were completely incorrect. The guy that called me said I should get my money back. Veterinarians that do the Health Certificates have to receive special training. Knowing the requirements of the different countries or being able to research the necessary requirements is what payment is for! I was easily able to find out what was required for international travel into Mexico. Those requirementss are - NO abbreviation s can be used in filling out the certificate. The owner/vet had abbreviation s throughout the entire document & didn't put some necessary dates. The documents were returned to me in the overnight envelope that I had wasted my money on. I went back to the vet to get corrected certificates. Mailed them in the same way again at the same cost! On 12/16, I was contacted & told the documents were incorrect again! My flight was scheduled for 12/18! I'm grateful the requirements for Mexico changed around the same time. I requested a refund on just the amount the certificates cost ($50 each) - NOT for the cost of the exam that was only done for the health certificates or the worming again only done because of the health certificates (my pets didn't have worms). The bill for the health certificates & what went with them was $250 & the postage I wasted to send the worthless documents 2x was over $140. I only asked for $100 back. My request was denied by the owner/vet that was trained (obviously not well) to know the requirements - or at least be able to check them - for the health certificates but they were done incorrectly 2 times. I thought it was a good place too at first. The receptionist is great! The owner/vet should consider that $400 later there was never a correct certificate. Poor work ethic's aren't what people pay for. There are lots of decent veterinarians Chris Strones Attached: (I hate it when there's no documentation to back up) The botched health cert's My 1st trip to this vet The rabies papers. One of the FedEx costs missing r some papers in re to my cat Neury. They're headed to the airlines & the papers r needed & missing one FedEx bill (same as this one)& missing the last vet bill for the health cert's - $250 U can c their phone # - call & ask! read more

We've been long time clients of this clinic. The owner of the practice, Dr. Bedford, is as professional and caring as they come. You will want her as a friend. Her staff is incredible, providing excellent customer service to all pet owners. I have the greatest confidence our hound mix, Rags, will do well under their care for heart worm treatment. We are grateful to have our dog in their care. read more

Do Not bring your birds/parrots to this clinic! I had brought my sons parrot to this clinic recently, who is said to be an avian vet, to get the leg band removed because it was causing injury to the parrot. Getting a leg band removed is an easy process, if you have the tool to do it. This "avain vet" did not have the proper tool, but went ahead and started using everything she thought would work instead. By the time I realized she didn't have what she needed the band on the birds leg was so cut up and sharp, that it had to come off otherwise more injury would have been caused. After 30 minutes of stress on the parrot and being held in place.. Dr. Deborah Scarborough then used a hand saw with a popsicle stick in between the band and the leg of the bird! (This bird weighs only 71 grams to give you an idea of how inappropriate the tools that she used to where.) Extremely dangerous and slipped a few times! Could've easily taken my parrots leg off! Extremely unprofessional! When the band was then off and the assistant brought the bird to me, Dr. Deborah Scarborough then tried to grab the bird from my shirt to see if it was ok. When she saw the bird would not let go of my shirt, she simply turned around and walked out of the room without a word to me. And that was the last I saw of her. Unprofessional! My son's parrot then had an extremely swollen leg with purple bruising. No doubt it had been fractured under all the pressure that had been put on it. She is favoring the leg and wasn't using it. I called the office to make them aware of the situation they said they would give me an anti-inflammatory for her. When I went to pick up the medicine they had the nerve to try and charge me! Please do not bring your birds to this clinic!! A True avian vet would've known better than to put the bird under stress for over 30 minutes! And wouldn't have made those risks and put the bird is in danger! I did receive one phone call from someone in the office, a week after incident, to check on my sons parrot. I will not be bringing my bird or dog back to this clinic! read more

The doctors and staff at Providence Square have really been wonderful, in helping me to care for my pets. The care notes are really good and helpful, and they have been unfailingly kind and patient with us and the animals, some of whom are 'challenging'. Both Dr. Bedford and Dr. Gunther, have been diligent and astute in assessing and sussing the medical issues of my animals. They have helped me to make the most of the healthcare investment, starting with reasonable prices and creative management. My animals are treated with respect and love, and they are given good explanations of what will happen during the visit - making the most of my attempts to prepare them for the vet visits. I particularly recommend this practice to informed owners who are actively involved in their pets and want a partnership with the veterinary professionals, in providing excellent care. I think very highly of this practice. read more

Usually this clinic is nice to pets and assists in making choices sympathetically to the animal and caregivers, but last night was not one of those times. I was brow beat by the attending veterinarian for not getting lab work done on my 17 year old cat who was clearly declining. She told me that being old is not a disease - but my cat was clearly diseased. The last visit the veterinarian told me that there were knots in his gut - he lost 15 pounds of his once robust self. The veterinarian had told me with treatment he might live 3 to 6 months. I weighed the quality and quantity of life for him for a week with all my loved ones. I would have been 5K in debt and his poor kitty life would have declined anyway. So, in the saddest of times (my first fur-baby as an adult) I was chastised for not doing all I could for him. Please realize that I loved that boy for 17 years. From kitty treats, to stockings at Christmas time, to toys and cuddles. What I was taking him in for was to be kind to him... I only ask that this veterinarian to try to have empathy during such hard times. It wasn't easy for us to make that decision. read more
