We were able to run through the viaduct which was open to pedestrians only on this day. I've ridden in cabs through it many times but never had a chance to walk or run through it, and around the roadways that circle around the building and head back to Park Avenue South. Pretty much just a tunnel. Some cool architecture to see. That's pretty much it.

One year during Summer Streets I really took some great photos inside the tunnel. The old light fixtures and details are dirty and unkept but they still trigger my imagination. I'm taken back to a different time. During Summer Streets this tunnel is open for pedestrians. If you go other times you will get run down! I hope you enjoy my photos. Grand Army Plaza - This square felt very representative and at the same time pleasantly open. Statues, fountains, and street life create an interesting contrast that can be appreciated even during a short stop. I value the good orientation, cleanliness, and the fact that it is a prominent landmark in this part of Manhattan.

For 23 years I've been visiting the Rockefeller Concourse. I can now get on the subway outside my…read moreapartment and get off underground at the Concourse. I avoid the nasty weather. I've seen business come and go. I was there this past week. I was sad when the Hallmark Store Closed. There's more changes coming. The Starbucks is always busy. I'm posting photos of my favorites. I like to look out at the Ice Skaters. I have a treat at Jacques Torres. I like lunch at Tri Tip Grill. They have one of my favorite salads. Sometimes I'm there for Ben and Jerry's. Especially free scoop day. For years my daughter would meet me for lunch at Au Bon Pain. Frequently I met out of town friends and family members there. Both their locations have closed! Now you can find me at Mrs. Fields/Liberty Deli. They have very reasonable prices for a filling meal. When I need something for healthcare I shop at the Value Drugs. The employees are very nice to me. You can get tickets for Top of the Roc. You're near Radio City Music Hall and many favorite named brand shops. I could go on and on. I love spending the day. When you visit the city, shop in the Concourse. There's Amazon Go now too. You can get fresh flowers and an old fashioned shoe shine or have your shoes repaired. If you work nearby you're fortunate. There's the U.S. Post Office too. There's everything you need basically!

Ben and Jerry's, Ace's Pizza, Blue Ribbon, and a bunch more options as far as eating. There's plenty of shops as well, Top of the Rock, Amazon to go, stationary store, shoe shine shop, pool hall, and a lot more. Most of the places are open during business hours, check for the weekend schedule. It can get busy during lunch time during the week.

The settlement is near the Upper West Side neighborhood bounded by Central Park West and the paths of West 82nd Street and West 89th Street. I recently spent a few hours wandering around the area between West 82nd Street and West 89th Street. This is so very educational. The Park has placed information kiosks periodically around the area where significant landmarks are located. I had so many places to visit I didn't stop to read everything. There's a lot of reading involved to understand the history. I could definitely spend a couple hours. The landmarks make for tourist photo opportunities. I'm planning a return trip to further my knowledge about this historic area of Central Park. Many residents and visitors may not be aware of its existence. I'm recommending you check on line for the details. It's there for all ages whenever Central Park is open for visitors. This is a very safe busy section of the park. You're welcome!

Driprock Arch connects the area around Wollman Rink with Heckscher Playground and is named for a…read moremassive rock outcrop in the vicinity. I come here a lot. It's a really cool place to visit. I often see a musician here. Something about the arches brings the musicians underneath the arches, other than protecting them from inclement weather! It's a magical enhancement to the sound of their instruments. This arch was built in 1859. Driprock Arch carries Center Drive over what was formerly a bridle path. The bridle path was demolished in the 1930s when Heckscher Playground was expanded. I love the beautiful red brick of this arch. The red brick makes it one of my favorite arches to visit and photograph. I hope you visit too!

It's a picturesque setting made from mainly red brick and you'll sometimes see a lone musician playing under it . It's a simple but effective structure that carries people ans carriages over what used to be a bridle path.

Well it's looking to me like we are coming back quickly. Panera is back and Barnes and Noble is going to open. Both are within a half mile from my apartment. There's at least four new pizza joints in a half mile of my home too. We are definitely excited about Kossar's Bagels and Bialy's! We have more ice cream and cookie shops than ever before. Yes there's crime but that's in every neighborhood these days throughout the city. Yes it's expensive to rent an apartment. Just remember that it's worth it to be able to walk everywhere and not have the expense of a car and the expenses that come with a car. I'm not happy about Manhattan air quality and the air quality in my neighborhood. I just do the best I can. It's Five Stars for Museums, Educational Institutions, entertainment, sports programs, parks and playgrounds. Plus the public spaces and libraries. I can go on and on. I'm not recommending. Stay where you are! We have enough people here!

What I…read morefind to be quite peculiar is that Coney Island Ave, running just three blocks parallel -- doesn't suffer from most of these boneheaded road fumbles. Perhaps it wasn't in the DMVs playbook and nobody wanted to tell you, well, I'm here to tell you. Open those eyes, scan front and back on occasion -- flashing lights approaching? Move away from the lane that said flashing lights is bearing down upon you within. Maybe it's a coffee run, maybe granny is about to kick the bucket -- whatever the case, know how to move forward, to the side, anything but freeze in complete panic as emergency vehicles run this strip all day -- I can't speak for the night tho, it's gotta be worse. The Jewish people are not the world's greatest drivers so I am pointing the guilty end of the pointer at they, them and theirs. For such a smart people, the flat and straight road should be an easy go -- but it aint, it's anything but. Those are the drivers, here is the road. Three well marked lanes although a bit narrow with a hungry grumpy passenger side curb that'll take a bite or take a swipe at your rubber if you veer too close, you can feel their cement snarls. And above that hazzard is the pretty swaying low hanging trees that will tickle your high top roof and swat at your antenna bending it like a backwards 'C' -- followed by the full force "thwaaaang" release, hence, large vehicles stay left. But the absolute worst part of driving this beautifully and fictitiously named avenue (where's the ocean anyway?) is the I'll fated traffic light synchronizer, a true momentum killer. If your not Mario Andretti in a Formula 1 racecar, you'll chug along -- make one light, wait at the next, make one light and wait at the next. I'm watching little kids on 2 wheeled scooters passing me on the sidewalk like I'm standing still. I might abandon the new rig and join their merry band of light free bobbers and weevers because it looks like so much fun.
