They were my primary mechanics for years, but over the last one or two years their quality and…read moreservice have started to dip. I brought in my car to have the steering fixed, and they forgot to replace the panel underneath the steering column. Unfortunately due to its location I never noticed until much later. A year later I brought it in to have a windshield wiper motor replaced, it was replaced but misaligned, and the wiper arc didn't cover some of the windshield. I brought it in again to have that fixed and the transmission looked at, as the transmission was starting to experience issues. They told me it might be fixed by replacing the transmission fluid, which they did, but they charged me for fixing the windshield wiper misalignment, which was their mistake to begin with! Finally, two weeks after they replaced the transmission fluid, the transmission failed completely. I'm a bit resentful about this, I feel a mechanic should know that a transmission problem (one severe enough to render the car eventually undrivable after two weeks) couldn't be solved by just replacing the fluid. They replaced the transmission, and it works fine now, but: - The steering wheel cowling wasn't fastened properly, and slid down to block the gas pedal while my wife was on the highway. - They replaced the clutch, despite it being only a year old and my requesting they not do that during the estimate. - When I brought their attention to the panel missing from underneath the steering wheel (which they had neglected to replace from the steering job) the mechanic just shrugged and said he had noticed it missing from the 'bad' job done on the steering, completely oblivious that it was their previous work. - They charged me again for new transmission fluid. Admittedly I don't know if the fluid can be retained or not, but given the cost of replacing the transmission + their faulty assumption about the new fluid fixing things to begin with, it just felt like a poke in the eye.

I took my beloved 2017 Ram 3500 to Barrett based on reading their reviews. I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

I'll be back with any of my transmission needs. I came in…read morewith the recommendation of several of my ASE mechanic friends from different local repair shops as I had red fluid pouring out between my tranny and motor. Mark assured me that they'll take an assessment of the issue and get back to me before doing any work. Later in the day I received a phone call from Mark. He shared with me the red fluid was not tranny fluid, however, the specialized coolant my duramax requires. He went on to describe that all fluid levels were appropriate and the tranny and transfer case were in fine shape. Despite feeling a bit embarrassed about not differentiating the difference between the tranny vs coolant fluids, I was extremely grateful that they did not take advantage of me and, instead, went on to show me where the issued was. Such honesty goes a long way these days. Based upon numerous recommendations from mechanics I trust and respect, and Barrett transmission's honesty (and the time they took to further investigate and show me the issue)., I'll be back with any transmission issues or maintenance needs that I might have. Thank you Mark and Cameron (the tech) for your professional and honest assistance. Charlie D, Ferndale
