The first time we visited PKA we fell in love with it!
The environment and the space is amazing, very friendly and organized, full of beautiful kid's work. When we visited, all the kids were busy and happy doing their work. The owner, that received us and made the tour, explained us the philosophy of the school and we couldn't agree more with their approach, kids learn when they are curious about something, and they always are, and this is the way they conduct their teaching, based on the kid's interest. The values and social matters they bring to the school and pass on the kids are amazing, looking for kindness and respect for all.
Academic learning comes together with all the playing, they do not learn letters or numbers in a traditional way, but I see my son recognizing letters, words, counting numbers and even doing small math calculations as we talk or play and he is able to use those skills naturally, that is the result of teachers work with the kids, by introducing concepts and teaching along with the play and kids class work. The teachers are so amazing with the kids, they are so involved, keeping their brains with big questions constantly busy also extremely sweet and caring.
They are super friendly with parents as well, teachers and owners, always open to a nice talk, to tell you about the kids day, and help you with any request, last minute change or any concern, always open to suggestions.
Being outdoors everyday is a must for them, encouraging exercise, and knowing the neighborhood. They visit parks, playgrounds, libraries, farms, local stores and green markets. They also have indoors activities like yoga and music. It's fantastic!
My son joined last year when he turned 2 years old, he immediately adapted! He is there for the second year and we feel that was the best decision we took when we moved to Brooklyn. He made friends as well as we did, it's a happy place where we can find a community. We feel so grateful to have our son at such great place!
I must say we are parents for the second time, our kids have a big age gap, and we lived in many different places, including abroad, so we seen a lot of different schools. We couldn't be happier to have our little one at PKA.
All that to say we love the school ans he loves it too.
This is an inspiring place for kids and parents. We strongly recommend it. read more
