That was a red flag so I threw his quote in the trash. The third was comparable in price with Sousa and the other, but the sales guy was not so friendly. Like I owed him for his time. Maybe because he saw me as an elder so he felt he could try to take advantage of me, not sure. First off Sousa wasn't the cheapest and frankly about $800 more than the other roofing contractor. The reason I chose Sousa was because they gave me their cost up front, with a very detailed proposal listing everything even with costs up front in case I need to replace plywood etc., and didn't try to haggle me with extras. I did ask if they could take some money off, and they agreed to discount 300 bucks. Still a few hundred more than the other roofer but my gut was telling me lean towards Sousa. There was no start high, then sell me this and that, we have the Cadillac version, we have this version. Just give me a damn quote that tells me what I get and how much. So something didn't sit right with me, so I went with Sousa. Gave them my word over the phone. The next day I met with the owner and we signed the contract and scheduled my roof install. Within six days I had materials delivered, crew showed up at 7am and a new roof installed by 5pm and everything cleaned up. The owner set his guys up in the morning, then popped by again a few hours later and we chatted for a good hour about everything but the roof. What a fine young man he is. Very down to earth and good person. I'm happy with my roof. We have had a lot rain since and no issues so far. My son who lives in Plainville also needs a new roof and has already signed up Sousa to do the work at the end of June. I highly recommend Sousa Roofing and would use them again and recommend them to anyone looking for a roofer. God Bless.

I ended up finding a quality contractor (ZF Outdoors) that was able to bail me out, after the delays Steve caused, and still have it done by the deadline. IF YOU WANT YOUR JOB DONE ON TIME CALL SOMEONE ELSE! I'm glad I did! UDATE: Regarding Steve's comments about a deposit. To give a contractor 50% before they even start is crazy, because of situations like this with contractors disappearing and/or failing. I was very concerned about a glass structure under a portion of the tear out and Maikol handled it with full integrity. I chose to go with Mike Franco because he was a local, straightforward & straight talking guy who seemed knowledgeable about his craft and proud of his work and longevity. Mindful of the weather, Mike scheduled the work on an ideal day in March. Once again, Mike and his crew showed up on time, completed the job on time with no upcharge surprises and cleaned up so that one would never know the property had any work done on it. I would not use this company again. I contracted Colin to remove some dirt and debris from my yard…read more Prior to the job start, I met Colin at my house and he explained his process and I detailed what I wanted done. He specifically stated that they would use a shovel to hand dig around the asphalt so they wouldn't cause any damage. The day of the job he brought in another gentleman to operate the excavator. The operator went straight into a pile of debris right by my asphalt and took a 10"x10" chunk out of it and caused a crack leading to my house. All 3 of us were there and witnessed this happen. I asked them about it and neither of them acknowledged my question and continued to work. Before we started I showed them a back section of the yard I specifically wanted gone. Colin kept saying that he understood what I was asking, but they kept excavating the wrong part of the yard. I continued to try to clarify that wasn't what I was looking for and then Colin just walked away from me in a huff. I then went up to the operator himself to try and explain and the response I got was "I'm trying really hard to be nice to you right now" . Which was a surprisingly aggressive response to receive when you're asking the people who are removing dirt on your property to remove the correct dirt. At the end, the operator dumped a bucket of dirt over the crack to intentionally cover it up and then he left the job site without letting me know he was leaving or confirming with me that the job was done. Colin was ready to leave as well, but thankfully I hadn't paid him yet, so I went back over to the crack to address it with him. It was only after I called him out for it A SECOND TIME at the very end that he took responsibility and acknowledged the damage. In short: I would HIGHLY recommend Hammer Basement!…read more I spent time reaching out to quite a few companies for estimates and from the start Hammer Basement was by far the easiest to work with. I received a call and text back very quickly and was able to send pictures over text to get the conversation going even before an on site estimate. Scheduling an estimate was easy and quick, and scheduling the date for work was the same as well. When meeting Emilio for the first time, I was instantly comfortable with him and his friendly personality. He is very knowledgeable and I appreciated that he was not trying to have us do more work than was needed. (It felt like other companies were trying to upsell.) We did need quite a bit of work done but Emilio took the approach of let's do one step at a time and see how it goes (we were tossing around the idea of needing a French drain in addition to a sump pump and foundation crack repairs). Emilio and his crew found an additional crack in the basement while they were doing work that we would not have seen otherwise because it was hidden behind a wood beam in the basement. The whole team is detail oriented and takes pride in their work. We told them not to worry about cleaning up all the dust from coming in and out of the house, but they made sure to clean as much as they could and all the work they did looked great once they were done. If we ever need additional work done we will definitely be using Emilio and his crew again, as well as telling others of his work!
