Came in on a Thursday afternoon, so it wasn't busy at all. I'm not a big beer drinker, but it looks like they have a decent selection of beers and the beer I got was pretty good. My buddies seemed to enjoy their beers also. I think it's Utah law, so I think anything over 5% abv has to be in a can. They also charge for samplers here. I believe the worker said it was $2? You can order food from next door at Proper Burger and they will deliver it to you. I got a mushroom Swiss burger and it was pretty good. They have a bunch of other types of burgers and my buddies also enjoyed their burgers, fries, and onion rings. This place also has several TVs, pinball machines, skeeball, and pool tables. They also have a little store where you can purchase beer and other Proper Brewing items. Had this beer at another establishment while visiting Park City, so when spending time in Salt Lake City decided to check out the Proper Brewing. We checked it out on a Monday afternoon so it was a great place to chill. Mondays they have free pool, so that was a fun surprise in showing up there and kept us there for a few hours. Also tried the Shorty's, was a great beer as well. The bartender working was extremely friendly, answered all of our questions on the beers while offering up his favorites too. This is a pretty popular brewery, where most people grab a burger from the sister business proper burger next door. There are some arcade games and pool tables. They will definitely fun out of seats on a busy night but the atmosphere is fairly relaxed. I was able to stop in and try a number of samplers and get a few pints. Overall the beers were good. They definitely have a large number of ipas and hoppy beers. I didn't love the balance on their sours, but because the beer rotate through, they might be better the next time I visit. The brewery suffers from Utah's silly laws. With a lot of choices, I wanted to try one before I ordered a glass. Welp, no dice without a charge in Utah. I understand it's not their fault. The staff was friendly about that, but did little to help me choose. I told him I like a low IBU and he kinda just looked at me and didn't acknowledge what I was saying. Maybe he thought I mispronounced BYU. When we first walked in, there was an overpowering stench of bleach. I don't know if someone had an accident like that Delta flight or what, but it seemed excessive for cleaning tables at a brewery, especially at 6p or so. That should be a last thing/first thing type of cleaning. They had a decent beer selection, but no wheat bears other than a fruit forward one. I ended up with a "normal" beer with no added flavors and stuff. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. Breweries need to focus more on having a great beer without all of the added "notes" which tend to ruin them. You can order at the Proper Burger next door (We did and weren't happy with our burgers), but that's another review. If I return to SLC, I'd skip this place. read more

Extra bonus points go to this brewery as it is open later than a lot of the other ones in the city and this is a city that rolls the sidewalks up early for a urban area of it's size. I got a lovely wheat beer here which I was very impressed with and the atmosphere is cool too. Kind of a lot going on at this location. One part of it serves burgers and another part is a merchandise shop. Parts of it seems to close earlier than other areas. The taproom looks like it's the last to close. It's a fun atmosphere! Plenty of seating and good beer. We came during covid and all the games were shut down. Now that covid is pretty much over, the games are back on! There's skee ball, arcade games, pinball machines, pool table, and shuffle board. All the games are free or affordable so it's a cheap and easy date night plan. Depending on which beer you order, it can get pricy. I like IPAs and they are obviously more expensive than the regular stuff. Hopefully there's not a long line to order food and then hopefully you don't have to wait to order drinks. We didn't have such luck. Oh dear god go somewhere else. McDonalds would be better (and I don't eat there). To be fair, it is a brew pub and we had wine...a solid C. Ordered the poutine app. Nothing good about it. Canned metallic gravy over soggy fries and no friggin cheese curds! Noz even close. A solid F. Da Vinci burger (vegan patty, or what I would call crumbled fried breading on more bread. Terrible. Another F. Also had the chef salad...a good C here, although not good enough to eat even half. The two (box) house wines were a D. Please consider ANY other place but here for a meal. My husband and I decided to try wine tasting there on a whim, looking for a fun night out, and it exceeded all expectations! The wine was amazing and the food was fantastic! Our super cool server was very funny - she really went over the top to ensure we had a great time. The bartender made the best cocktails we've ever had! From the moment we walked in, everyone, including other customers, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. It wasn't just an establishment where you're serviced, but a place that made us feel treated. I was so confused when I walked in, sat at a table, and waited for a server for quite some time. I had to get up and ask the bartender how to order food. They don't serve food at Proper Brewing. You have to order from Proper Burger (next door) and they deliver it to you at the bar. That's confusing for people coming for their first time. Proper has become my go-to spot lately. Almost every day of the week they have some sort of decent special or interesting event going on (I'll add a photo of their daily specials in a minute). They have a decent variety of beers which I like, it's not just a bunch of IPAs, or German beers or anything --you can really find something you're looking for here. They have some real good beer and you can carry it out in a crowler or growler for home drinking too.They can or bottle it real quick and you can be in and out in under 5 minutes with a decent haul of solid beer. Going next door for burgers is great too, they have some awesome flavors but that's technically its own business so I should review it separately but... good food! The atmosphere is fun at Proper Brewing too with all the shuffleboard tables, pool, pinball, skeeball etc. It's a great hangout bar. read more

Came here after the Yelp Halloween party. Nobody even gave me a second glance at my rhinestone cowboy costume but its a pretty diverse crowd. The Lake effect beer was crap so i switched to the lemonade and 3 of those went down easy. $9 each for a very small cup of lemonade with very little alcohol was too expensive, but tasty. The rarebit fries are the bomb. Annoying that you have to go next door to get food but at least they bring it to you. Place is big with 2 pool tables and other arcade games. I get that proper brewing and proper burger are two different entities, but this set up blows and it really pains me to say that, because their beer is some of the best we've had and the food was absolutely bomb.... I feel like both places are losing out on an extreme amount of money by the ridiculous set up they have. Standing in line for food for 30 plus minutes to turn around and have to go stand in line for beer for 20+ minutes is stupid. We would've loved to stay and visit and hang out and drink more, but it was so god forsaken loud and the line for drinks was so long that it made it miserable. The beer is good. Pitchers are $12 while pints are $5. I think that's a good, fair price. You can order food from Proper Burger and they will bring it over. It's two separate entities though so don't buy your beer at Proper Burger if you plan to sit down and eat at Proper Brewing. It can be a hassle if you don't do it right, but the staff always try to be helpful and they have signs everywhere. The bar has a pretty open space. There are some video games to play and a big shuffleboard in the middle. This place wasn't crowded, but was still fairly busy on a Saturday night. It's a little out of the way which makes it hard to stop at when bar crawling or what not. An Uber from downtown Main St to here cost $6 - not too shabby. read more

So we had been here before just to have some beers, but hadn't had the food even though we had heard it was good. We happened to be in the area and while we would normally go to a place a little further south that is known for it's burgers we decided to try a new place. Wow, are we glad we did. So first of all, the beer, just as it was on our first visit, was amazingly good. Well made, and what you'd expect from a good craft brewery. I started with a Cream ale on nitro which was truly amazing and was what I was craving a couple nights earlier at another place that left me a bit disappointed. As we usually do when a space is available we sat at the bar in order to observe what they are doing and maybe pick up some tips about how they do things. Since it was a bit slow early on a Sunday evening we had the opportunity to visit with Joe, who was working behind the bar that night. He was great. I mean really, really great. He was super knowledgeable about the drinks there and much like me he had worked in the kitchen prior to moving out front and had a really good appreciation of flavors and how they worked together. It was amazing to get to pick his brain and discuss beer and spirits with him. My wife had the Patersbier to start, but what sticks in my memory is her second beverage, is the Chupacabra. A truly unique and delicious change from the usual fare. And we continued to discover that this is not an unusual occurrence here, the art of the cocktail is truly a rediscovered art here, with ingredients made from scratch, and unique flavor combinations being the order of the day. I mean who makes sour mix from scratch anymore? These guys that's who. Then there is the food. As I mentioned, we had not had the opportunity to partake of it on our first admittedly brief visit. Now normally, as I mentioned, we often visit a popular place to the south that is well known for it's burgers and until this visit had you asked I would have said it was my favorite. But now I have a second favorite. My wife had her usual bacon cheese burger, but I had the Pork City. These were seriously some of the best burgers either of us have had. ANYWHERE. I really can't say much more than that. The fries were good, the Onion rings were good and we appreciated the fact that by ordering a large side we could get half and half, but we have had better and that those items are better in our other favorite place is all I can say to find as a fault. If you like a good beer, a well made cocktail, or a tasty burger, or a combination there of, this is your place to go in the SLC with a reputation for a great burger and a great drink that is well deserved. read more
