Wow how does this place pass health inspection? I don't think they've ever cleaned the floors! There were napkins and cups sitting on the dirty floors in the bakery section! The service was terrible too. Our drinks and food were delayed. We were so hungry that we ended up staying but I seriously hope we don't get food poisoning. If their public appearance looks that bad, I can't imagine what their kitchen looks like! The only reason my husband and i picked this place was for the wings. 3.5/5 stars so I'll round up to 4. I had heard their food was very good, and a friend and I went here today since apparently EVERY DOWNTOWN THAI place is closed this weekend for Memorial Day weekend. I had been craving a burger for a while now so I ordered the basic one, and added sautéed mushrooms. Everything is a la carte and a charge for toppings, which was kind of annoying, even pickle chips, though you do get a pickle with your burger. I also upgraded to sweet potato fries, and both that and the burger were good. They have an outdoor patio area which looked nice, although we dined inside. Their desserts also looked really good though I didn't buy one since I was going for bubble tea later down the street. I'd come back here again but the entrees are a little pricey. Patrick (a very cute, smart, and social waiter) greeted us within moments of being seated. We ordered an appetizer and our dinners. Interestingly enough our dinners came out before our appetizer! I was in a very relaxed mood (being kid-free has that affect on me) he tried to have the dinners brought back after giving the girl carrying our food a very perplexed look. He saw me motion that it was fine. He apologized, no big deal I said. The new manager came over once our appetizer was ready, apologized as well, and comped the app. Sweet! Or dinners were: grilled cheese and sweet potato fries, veggie burger and fries, fried pickles (stop thinking it's gross...they are awesome, try them), I had a chocolate martini - amazing, and my husband had a dirty martini -he really liked it. The restaurant still looks boring as hell on the inside, hopefully Ian gives it some much needed flair now that he's in control, but I'm happy to report that the service is wonderful (at least if you get Patrick!), and our food was delicious. I have to agree that the name can throw you off because the services is nowhere near Pronto. Smh maybe it should be called Slow's (but that name is already taken). Lol I have done dine in at Pronto's twice and both time it has been really slow. Even when they are not busy. Waiter service is ok. However carryout is not so bad if you plan AHEAD. I had a 20-25 minute wait for a half order of Nachos (yeah I know what takes that long for nachos). When I got there no one was at the counter so I could pick up my order. Another couple minute wait. This was before noon. They were pleasant and my order was ready when promised and correct. Overall it is an okay place to go because of the dessert selection. If they didn't have the sweets in house I would definitely go somewhere else because the food is not unique. Prices are comparable to other sitdown restaurants. I like the whiskey bbq wings as well, but be warned that its $9 for around 6-8 wings. The funniest thing on the menu is that it lists the water choices as: Bottled: $2.00 or Royal Oak: $0.00. Pronto is a bit of an overachiever. It is a Restaurant, bakery, bar and gay bar. I do not know why it is listed in Yelp as Italian. They do have pasta, but this is not where I would go if I was craving Italian. The restaurant menu is huge with quite a bit of variety. One entire side is sandwiches, pretty much any kind that you can think of. The other side is a mix of standard fare like burgers and pasta but they also have Mexican. (The mexicall dip is really good.) This makes it a good place to go with a group or if everyone wants something different. There is also a large selection for vegetarians. They also do breakfast/brunch and since they have a bar they do Mimosa and bloody Marys. Most of what I have had ranges from good to very good. I'm a fan of the turkey burger (with avocado, they have add ons to the burgers) and the sweet potato fries. The service can be hit or miss. I have had good service and bad, just depends on the particular server. The same thing can be said about the length of time it takes for the food to come out. On one occasion they made a mistake with my order and it took a significant amount of time to correct. The bakery is good, not the best, but it also depends on what you order. We went here for mother's day brunch our 3 kids because my wife wanted to try something different. I'll simply describe our experience, my bottom line is I don't see how a restaurant run as poorly as this can stay in business. I hate to be completely negative, so my positive thing I can say is that any of the staff we interacted with were friendly and courteous. First we arrived without a reservation, nobody else waiting, we were told our wait would be about 10 minutes. As we waited a couple other parties with reservations arrived and were seated, one other family arrived without a reservation and was told the wait would be about 20 minutes and they left. Our actual wait was probably between 12 and 15 minutes. We were seated in a booth on the quieter side by the counter, which suited us just fine. I don't recall how long before our order was taken, drinks weren't specifically mentioned on the menu. I usually get apple juice with breakfast because I like orange juice with no pulp, and you never know what you're going to get. No apple juice. So most of us got orange juice, 1 of the kids got milk. The orange juice wasn't pulp free but it had very little, it may have been fresh squeezed... (In the end on the check, I got a second glass, they charge - no free refill) We ordered - my wife ordered the Pronto Breakfast (standard eggs, toast, hash browns, choice of breakfast meat), I ordered the corned beef hash (with eggs, hash browns, toast) and 2 kids got the kids pancakes, 1 got French toast. Then our drinks were brought. And then we waited. 55 minutes later our food arrived. The kid that got the French toast didn't eat all of it because she said it had uncooked egg in the middle, I tried it and I thought it had no flavor. My corned beef hash was ok, but I didn't really think there was much flavor and the eggs weren't at all fluffy. Even the toast was chewy, which is odd because I never actually thought it was possible for toast to come out chewy. When the food came out, we didn't have silverware. I spoke up, and the hostess brought out silverware and napkins. Also, they brought out 3 orders off kids pancakes (remember, we ordered 2). When the check came, they charged us for 3 orders of pancakes. I didn't bother arguing, I just wanted to get out. I'm not really into spending over 2 hours at a restaurant. I'm sure that has more to do with the wait to be seated, I can't see it being because there are soo many people that like coming here for the food and service. read more

So I've only ever been to Pronto for lunch a few times. From what I hear, it can be quite the place to party in the evenings, but I wouldn't know....not my scene ;) So let's talk about the food. The menu is extensive. What is funny is that if you actually read the items, you'll notice that there are like 10000 sandwiches. Somehow, even though you get many similar items, you have that many different sandwiches. It's like they took every traditional sandwich and put it on their menu, as well as any common variation, and then they took each sandwich and re-invented it as well. The sandwiches are good, too, and with the wide selection they have, there is pretty much any sandwich you can imagine. Aside from sandwiches, they also have good quesadillas and pasta. I always think it's interesting when a place can offer completely different kinds of food, yet still prepare each well. Pronto is one of those places. What is most spectacular about Pronto are its desserts. They have cake, cake, and more cake. Bumpy cake, other cakes (I know I should be able to name more)... dessert trayS of cake. In fact, we once took a lunch break from work in downtown Detroit and drove up to Pronto, just for the cake. Our plan was to skip lunch and just get dessert. We all ended up getting real food, too, cuz that's the responsible thing to do. But we all got our own HUGE piece of cake to top it off. MMMMMMMMM. Pronto isn't just a restaurant, either. There is a corner store. In addition, they offer cooking classes. Overall, Pronto is quite impressive. It's active night life gives it a reputation, and those who don't know any better miss out by not giving this place a chance. My mom lived in Royal Oak for a bit and she's always told me how great this place is, so I finally went. I tried the pulled pork tacos and they were probably the best ones I've ever had. The thing that made them great were the beans they give you. A mix of sweet black beans with some corn and peppers. Even when I was full I couldn't stop eating it. Some of the service is a little weird, but that's okay, their desserts make up for it. Everything they bake is quite large and delicious. I had hoped, when my group decided to have lunch at Pronto, that the three-star review average on Yelp was somehow misleading, that it wasn't perhaps trendy enough for the hip denizens of Royal Oak and so it had received some unfair publicity. But then several things happened that not only justified the three star review, or two in my case, but likely ensured that I will not dine at Pronto again. The first star was lost when the coffee arrived watery and tasteless, and while I usually enjoy my coffee black, even cream and sugar could not overpower the unfortunate flavor. The second star was lost when an English Muffin arrived, one half lightly toasted and the other as unyielding as the hard-tack Civil War soldiers used to carry around in their back packs and then soak in hot water so that they could be chewed. The third star was lost when one of the orders arrived completely wrong, not the right dish or even anything similar to what was actually ordered. This was remedied, but not for almost twenty minutes, but then, despite a promise from the waiter that there would be no charge, was not removed from the check. I could have kept removing stars at this point because the Huevos Rancheros I had perfectly captured the flavor of stale tortilla that has been dropped on the ground a few times, but I won't go so far as to claim it a one star establishment. That is for McDonalds and Subway. But Pronto should know that if they don't improve things that they are likely to be thrown into that auspicious company. In summation, if everywhere else in Royal Oak has a two hour waiting list, maybe consider Pronto, or maybe go home and cook some instant ramen or something. read more

Let me start by saying the food was not terrible! It was what you would expect--good, not great. I got the pronto deluxe breakfast and it was exactly what I was expecting. I think if you are looking to spend money on breakfast this shouldn't be your number one spot. The food aside, the service is terrible. The host was very friendly but all she did was seat us. We went on a Sunday and the restaurant was pretty empty mid morning. We chose to sit inside because it was pretty hot out and the inside was not much better, the AC must've not been on because it was very muggy and hot inside. Once we sat down we were greeted and we ordered coffee and it came right away. The waitress was friendly but seemed awkward, like she was brand new. After we got our coffee we didn't see our waitress again for another 40 minutes and after around 20 I had to go ask the host where she was. While I haven't eaten at Pronto recently enough to review that aspect, I can say that the bar and staff there (Justin, Evan, Alejandro & Mike) are what keep me coming back and bringing guests. Pronto provides a welcoming LGBT friendly space that is open to all. Despite whatever crowd might be present or what event might be occurring outside, my experience at Pronto has always been relaxing and enjoyable. It's nice to see the sense of camaraderie staff appear to have with each other as well as their regular clients and (in my opinion anyway) it's those sort of things, along with their service and drinks, that keep people coming back. They were so nice and sweet, and had such a delightful iutlook, our server had on black with braids. I do apologize that I forgot their name.
