I was serious about moving this year and decided to see what Promove could offer, but it honestly wasn't much. The agent was very friendly during our first call and explained everything clearly, so at first I felt like I was in good hands with a solid sales team. By day three, I had already received four calls, a few texts, and several emails. The "personalized" list they sent was basically every apartment in the entire city, which didn't feel tailored in the slightest. It made me question how Promove can still operate this way in todays era, because the service feels outdated and very one-size-fits-all. I also wouldn't be surprised if they expect a commission once you find a place, even when their recommendations didn't even come close. The options they listed as my top matches weren't even in the areas I selected, which made me question whether they actually review your criteria. Let me start by saying I haven't actually found an apartment YET but that is mainly because I am not ready to move. I went to Promove when I first moved to Atlanta in 06/07. I honestly thought that Promove was closed down and replaced with internet access only. I'm glad I checked on Yelp and confirmed this is not the case. I was very glad to go in and meet with a live person who was very familiar with the city. Promove has also stepped there game up from the days when they just give you tons of property cards to choose from. The young lady at the front desk was very friendly and got us seated with someone very quickly. Our agent was Don Smith. Very funny and knowledgeable guy. Once we started working together, he spoke to us (my sister and me), asked us questions and made us feel comfortable. He made sure to get a good understanding of what each of us was looking for so he could fit those needs. Once we had a list of hotel choices based on the area and price range chosen, he went through and with his knowledge of the areas and the feedback he has received, he hid several from the list. This service could well be useful depending on what you're looking for. Promove contracts with large apartment complexes to provide what amounts to advertising services for those complexes. You (or the consumer, whatever) as an apartment-seeker, contact Promove and they will put you in touch based on the listings they've got agreements with. If you sign a lease with one of these companies, the Promove agent you've been working with gets commission. But honestly, I really don't think the agent does much work for you besides typing a few keywords into a database of complexes. And I found perusing the resulting list of complexes both overwhelming and not particularly helpful. It was too clunky to navigate! And I couldn't really filter very well by things that were important to me. I did end up in a complex that was listed on Promove, but I didn't even realize it was until I was speaking with my agent Zack. I found it instead through a chain of referrals from other complexes (but which were too expensive or had zero availability). Overall, I think this is useful as a starting point and as a comparison tool, to see what the market's like, especially if you're coming in to Atlanta from out of state like I was. HOWEVER, I think you can find places that are a better fit for your needs based on more interactive web tools like Padmapper.com or Walkscore.com. When I first moved to Atlanta I tried to use this company but it was a waste of my time. I told them what I was looking for and they did not listen to any of my request. I have a large dog and they would send me to places that don't even allow dogs! The representative that contacted me was at an office in Sandy Springs and told me I had to come to that location and talk to him when I was moving to Buckhead/Brookhaven and there is a location closer. To begin, ignore their amateur website and ignore their rather suspect "special deals." Just call and ask for Marco. I was lucky enough to get Marco without ever knowing him. Marco & I sat down and discussed my wants and needs for a choice of neighborhood and what I wanted in an apartment. I had already done some of my homework, but Marco's knowledge of seemingly every characteristic of every useful neighborhood demonstrated just how much I needed to learn. We chose properties to look at on screen after he inputted my requirements. We discussed each property, looked at available pictures, and even looked at some tenant reviews which frankly need to be read very carefully. All in all, he chose for me about 20 Metro ATL properties for which I visited 15 -- all with an 8x11 card containing info about the property along with the rent amount (he called each property in my presence) and all relevant fees including pet fees and pet rent. He was accessible by phone if I had any questions once I was at each property. Save for only two of these properties, the others I visited fit my requirements. very well I chose one of these properties and will move shortly. The problem seems more with how the company markets itself and to whom it markets. Do not allow Promove to engage in self-sabotage. Get past the website and cheesy-looking (and sorry friends NOT hip) corner storefront location with the tiniest of parking lots and meet with one of the representatives. If not Marco (or Blake who I also met) isn't available, either come back or ask the person you're assigned what experience they have. For example were they previously an ATL realtor or perhaps a property manager. How long have they been in the ATL and how well do they know the neighborhoods and properties which interest you? Have they visited the properties they suggest to you? What skills do they have? Did they do this sort of work perhaps in another city? If they don't give you a satisfactory answer, do not give up. Speak to another agent or if all else fails, simply schedule time later with Marco. All work I am told is done solely on commission which they receive ONLY after you find the property that you like and sign your lease. No one at Promove pushes you to do anything. It's that simple. They work for YOU but it is YOU who must visit the properties they suggest and evaluate it yourself. Sometimes, as with me, your evaluation of the property may not match their's. I used this place when I moved to Atlanta from Orlando, FL. I didn't know the area, so I brought a friend who did. We were helped immediately, they brought us to a little "meeting room" in the back where we waited for a few minutes. Lori S. was the one who helped us, she was very friendly. So they have a big map on the wall, and with the help of my local friend we drew a big circle on the map, we gave the girl a price range for 2 bedroom apartments, and she did the rest. She came back with a huge stack of flyers that fit our criteria. She even went back and got a stack for one bedroom places, and while she was gone we were able to eliminate several of the two bedrooms just by looking at the flyers. So after we checked out some places we went back to Orlando. We had some issues with some places changing the prices they gave us, and Lori called the places to help us straighten it out. She called me any time she had new information. There was one place that they were pushing pretty heavy, but it was garbage and it wasn't safe. So we checked it out, then disposed of the flyer and moved on to the next place. Promove was a huge help for us. We probably wouldn't have found a great place without a little help from our friends living in Atlanta, but we also couldn't have done it without Promove. I know some other people in Atlanta who use this service any time they are looking for an apartment in Atlanta. When I first heard its premise - free apartment hunting - I thought it was too good to be true, but we really needed to move out of our previous residence so what the hell, right? The staff was great - nice, knowledgeable and patient. They had us pick our ideal area of residence and price range, they then gathered a list of potential properties; we then took tours. From that list we had chosen our next home - we liked it, but it wasn't ideal. We were about to close on the leasing arrangement, when one of the staffers insisted we check out the new property that they'd just acquired or contracted; the rest is history. Wow. I wish every city had this service. Moving to a big city that you're not at all familiar with can be stressful- especially if you don't have any friends/family nearby to tell you the areas to avoid. We drove by this Promove location (doesn't look like much on the outside) while in town for apartment hunting and made a mental note to check them out. I am SOOO glad I did. Joel Pignataro made everything easy. He understood what we were looking for and guided us towards properties that he had heard great things about. He told us success stories and mistakes that he had heard from previous customers. He told us the areas we'd probably want to avoid. Joel was very patient and extremely helpful. The worst. I have three dogs one of which is a service animal, I was told Atlanta complexes only allow two dogs max. Although service animals are not pets they are medical equipment under the law. I was advised to sneak the dog in and hide it in the back bedroom when maintenance comes and if I'm outside just tell management it belongs to a relative if I'm seen! I was then told they couldn't work with me because my move isn't within the next 60days and market prices change, so here is this guy happy to gain commission from the apartment I rent not giving a damn if I end up homeless because I listened to Illegal advice. So I used promove for my move to Atlanta... sort of....then again... I think they used me. I moved from New Orleans Louisiana and I had only been to Atlanta once or twice. I was promoted and had to come here for advancement in my company. Naturally I needed help in selecting a place, so I chose none other than the "free, we get you 50% off your rent, no deposit" Promove. The guy who I ended up using was very much so against the lofts that I wanted to stay in, he kept pushing me to ones that he recommended. I want to live downtown, because it is close to my office/job and no traffic. To make a long story short, he was very unhelpful. The place that I ended up choosing is one that I found on my own. When I told him this, he called the unit to see what he could do for me on the rent and deposit (what their website promises). I have not heard back from him as of yet. However, what is surprising, I found out that he called the lofts where I will be staying and told them that he referred me to them and asked about his 50%. WOW right? That's what I thought. My new landlord told me that he /promove gets 50% of the 1st months rent. I now know that is why the service is free. Just so you know my rent is $1099 so he stands to get 500+. FOR NOTHING! I was quite excited to start a partnership with Promove based on a friend's referral of the company. I am moving to Atlanta temporarily for work. Initially I planned to move for a two month time frame. I emailed the Promove service and received an email back from Ursula presenting two options; corporate housing or a 3 month lease apartment combined with a furniture package. Though the Promove allowed me to select my own terms, two month lease/studio apartment/$1000 monthly, none of these options were discussed in the email. The latter 3 month lease apartment seemed to be the closest option price-wise but it would mean I would have to extend my stay for a month. I received a follow up phone call and when I called back I was put in touch with representative Michael. Unfortunately not only was Michael extremely unhelpful but his energy was one of a salesman as opposed to someone attempting to help me find an apartment in a new city, which is what the service advertises. Michael conveyed that all he had were 12 month leases. When I asked if that had to do with the area in Atlanta that I was exploring for housing, he said that was partly it but then went right back to the fact that I would be better off with a 12 month lease. I expressed that my initial parameters for my visit in Atlanta were for two months but I would be willing to extend a third month because the 3 month lease with furniture package seemed to be in my price range. Michael then told me that the price quote was for a 12 month lease. When I then told Michael that the email I received specifically said, "***The prices above are based on current market rent for 3 month leases" he side tracked a bit and pitched the housing that they currently have, which start at 12 months contractually. Because Michael was unwilling to cut to the chase and I was unwilling to be upsold, I directly stated that what I was hearing was that Promove did not have any options available that they advertised to me in their email. He stated that that was correct. I felt as though from the start of the phone call the goal was to get me to sign for a 12 month lease. I felt that my parameters were an inconvenient imposition and it was quite clear from Michael's tone that unless I was willing to change my time frame, I wasn't going to find what I was looking from through Promove, though it took me asking that directly to find that out. I rarely write reviews but I feel that Promove promote themselves in one way to draw you in and conduct themselves far differently when you deal with them directly. This is a free service and I suppose further proof of the old adage, 'you get what you pay for'. read more

Tony Schaeffer from Promove is the best...I really mean the best at what he does...cares.. He worked with me for 3 months on assisting me with finding somewhere to move, till the end. I had a problem with the apartment I moved into before I moved in and Tony helped me resolve the issue..He called and spoke with them previous times on my behalf. If he didn't assist, I dont know what I would have done..I am from St Louis and I don't know the laws in Georgia yet..I would suggest ANY out of towner to use Promove to help when you move to Georgia..Things are done different here.. read more

I've used promove twice for my apartment searches in Atlanta. They take your needs and produce a huge list of options for you to sort through. They know where the good deals are and have standing relationships with some of the apartment complexes in the area. My only stipulation is that IF you are looking for something that maybe is less corporate, promove can't really help you because they are in it for the referral fees and won't recommend communities that don't offer the referral. They also have recently started an online service, so you don't even have to go into the office! read more

I have used this Promove before, their service was decent - never really helped me find anything but I was a bit more aware of what was around me since I was new to Atlanta then. This time around was pretty disappointing and somewhat frustrating. My agent, kept on sending me places that had NO APARTMENTS available, and when they were available (rarely) they were out of my price range ... You're better off looking on your own. There are great website out there with accurate information. Some of the apartment complexes that I've been to told me that they don't even bother doing business with Promove anymore, because it's a hit or miss ... "You either find someone who will do their absolute best to help you or just don't care and only want a paycheck." So my advice to you: proceed with caution. read more

Im OVER THIS PROMOVE LOCATION. Here's why. An employee initially helped a friend and I look for a 2bd/2ba. We used the list provided and found a potential home. This friend pulled out at the last minute and I was left to find a 1/1, which I did ON MY OWN and I apologized for the inconvenience to this employee and offered to put PROMOVE on the application or whatever. After that, I continued to receive aggressive emails from said employee about how he was on a deadline and basically chewing me out for not writing PM on the guest card. Then he made comments about how it was frustrating when ppl don't use the list provided, when he works on commission, etc... After the 3rd email like this I replied as follows: "I'm sure it is frustrating. And I would like to be of more help but you are not letting me, and I refuse to feel guilty. My "friend" and I initially were looking for an apartment together and did utilize the provided list for 2 bedroom units. Found a great place, but she pulled out at the last minute, which is what I explained to you before. I was trying to help by adding ProMove to the lease or do whatever I needed to do for the 1br, but to be accused for not using the services provided, when I didn't find the place through you, but on my own (It was never on the 2bdr list, again, or any other) is kind of unprofessional and unappreciated." - No responsibility was taken on his part and I was accused of being the "bad guy." Although I ultimately found an apartment that I'm currently applying to live in, I found that the person who "helped" me (Bill) was kind of off-putting except when we were in front of others. He made sure to call me "sweetie" as he walked me to the door in front of other customers, but I found him lacking in attention otherwise. When we were discussing the area I'd like to live in, I noted my work location and my sister's home (both accessible from 285 on the west side of town) as the points I'd like to be close to. I also noted that I liked the Smyrna/Vinings area. He asked if I'd consider Austell. I told him I didn't mind moving a litter further out to stay in my budget IF the location was off of I-20. None of the apartment communities he pulled for my search were off of I-20, but he made sure to include apartments in Austell, accessible from the East-West Connector. In addition, I had a budget that I wanted to adhere to, because I choose to monitor my finances closely. I'd rather pay less for housing now so that I can save money to purchase a home in the near future. As someone who has just finished graduate school and who is currently still within the first year of her first professional job, this is important to me. I suppose it was due to my self-imposed budget that one of the apartments I received in my search ended up being an income restricted community. Imagine my embarrassment when I showed up at this place and was told that with my salary I would need to have SIX people in my household to live there. When I reported this to Bill, he didn't even bother to respond. He had no communication whatsoever with me after our initial meeting except to send my portfolio electronically (after I'd already selected a place) and to send the link to an online survey. So, on the one hand, I'm glad that I actually found an apartment. On the other hand, the customer service was severely lacking. It was rude to assume that I have a low income just because I CHOOSE not to exceed a certain amount per month in rent. Coming from a family that owns rental property, I know that I'm throwing away money and not growing equity when I rent. I also believe that not acknowledging my email was rude as well. I emailed to update Bill on my progress with looking for an apartment, because I initially told him I was not going out to look until I had more information (several of the places he called did not answer during our initial meeting). This is also the point at which I told him about the fact that he had sent me to an income restricted apartment community. The response was to send me the survey email. What terrible customer service. I'm giving two stars, because I actually did locate an apartment. It could have been a higher rating if I had not had such a poor experience as a customer. The long and short of it is that Promove and their agents are supposed to be the experts. In the end, I chose my new apartment based on the fact that none of the other places really fit my criteria. As a working professional, I choose services that help make my life easier, not harder. If you have the time, do the footwork yourself. I have used ProMove twice now. Once last year around this time when I first moved to Atlanta and again this summer when I wanted to move into a larger apartment. I worked with Darius both times and he was fantastic. Not only was he straight up with me about pricing he also gave me tips about where the 'safer' neighborhoods are. This was especially helpful last summer but also kept me from moving to a bad neighborhood this year. I have very high standards for apartments and Darius strictly stuck to my specifications when he sent me my list. I love the way the website is set up. PRO-MOVE knows its business and does it well!!! Before our move from Washington DC to ATL, my husband and I were already scouting out apartments over the internet. What a pain! Then my husband came across Pro-move. They immediately got back to us, and on our first ATL apartment-hunting visit, we went to Pro-Move's office and they had a whole line-up of apartments ready for us to visit. We signed up for the 2nd one we looked at -- in Lenox Park --- and we are very thankful that Pro-Move matched us to our townhouse. Terrible, terrible customer service. I tried to use this service when I first moved to Atlanta, we ended up picking a place off the list (that heard about from my cousin who's a local) - and both my roommate & I were called and harassed afterward. Thinking this was an outlier, two years later when moving, I tried to use the service again. One apt complex accidentally put the wrong attribution for how I found a place - mind you, this was just for a visit, not signing a lease whatsoever - and I was called in quick succession 3 times while I was at work and left menacing voicemails. Given that workers are only paid once people sign a lease, they are relentless, and come off like greasy old school salespeople. Another friend of mine was not left alone about breaking her current lease to move into a new place sooner. YOU WILL FIND A MUCH MORE HASSLE FREE OPTIONS ON APARTMENTLIST.COM or similar websites. It basically does the same thing in setting up a profile per your preferences, just without someone constantly haggling you. read more

Everywhere had a two pet limit. Then I called Promove and Lawerence was able to find 6 apartments within the hour.
