Upon reading the negative Yelp reviews recently, I was a bit worried about having my exam here. Fortunately I did not encounter what the negative reviewers experienced. My exam was for 8am and although the email said building doesn't open until 7:45am, I was able to enter at 7:30am. When I got to the Prometric floor, there was minimal wait and the staff was very helpful and efficient. They follow strict Covid protocols which I appreciated. Also the water cooler is still broken, so I would advise bringing your own water. read more

Surprised there haven't been more recent reviews. It's even more unfortunate that the poor service described years ago is still the case today. I never write reviews, let alone lengthy ones, but want to warn others and temper expectations. I took the GRE here. I was called two days in advance of the test on a Saturday. On the phone, the staffer read quickly through a script and was ready to end it off with, "Thank you, goodbye," like a robo-call before I could even get a word in. I told her reception had blipped in and out, and asked for clarification on one point. We are currently in the COVID-19 pandemic and she mentioned a health screening, and I wanted to confirm I did not need a test result for entry. She again ran through the script robotically start-to-finish and again was ready to cut off the call without addressing my concern specifically. I had to ask again before she replied, and she was again ready to cut the call off before I could clarify one more question about ID. I was informed to get to the location 30 minutes early. I ended up arriving only 15 minutes early, at which time the 20 people waiting around on the sidewalk and I were let into the building. On the 34th floor, we all waited in the small elevator corridor and were told that entry would be slow due to a "processing delay" -- it ended up being approximately an hour's wait. I was scheduled for 8:30am, and the 9:00am testers had already arrived. And the kicker is they did not even ask the COVID-19 screener questions. I interacted with 5 different staff. Two were outright rude in the way they conducted the security screening and their disdain was very apparent when giving people instructions. Again they rushed through instructions and were indignant if there were any follow-up questions. I recognized the voice, and it was the same person who had called me two days earlier. Other staff, while nicer, were unfortunately not very helpful when I had questions at the end of the test about score reporting and were unapologetic about it. I was told, "That's not information we have," in the same rote manner as other parts of their scripts. They offered me the number for ETS, and could not say what the operating hours were for the line. I know it's not strictly within their responsibilities, but this testing location has been around for years giving the GRE... For many, taking a standardized test can be a very stressful process, and the conduct of the staff could potentially throw people off their game. I made sure to ask questions because I could tell they were not the type to err on the side of being overly communicative with instructions. Check-in process was speedy and the employees were nice and helpful but I was absolutely LIVID during the first part of my exam. I sat down and began my exam, and immediately noticed chatter outside the room. Not sure if it was because I was near the door, but the administrators were chuckling and talking loudly to each other. I understand it may be boring to sit there all day, but this is a testing center where distractions can mean the difference between pass and fail, so at least whisper if you have to talk. Luckily, one of the administrators handed me earplugs and pointed to the headphones when I complained about the noise level. She was nice enough and did her best to remedy the situation but the damage had been done. I was already unsettled, about the noise and about being put in an uncomfortable situation on my testing day - a day I had studied and prepared months for, taking an exam I paid over $200 for. I went to the Queens Blvd prometric center for my first exam and I had no complaints of noise there. Probably won't go back to this one. read more

Took gre here instead of the midtown near herald sq. Location. The concierge downstairs checks off your name and you're directed upstairs to the 34 fl where you sign in and etc. the check in ladies were sweet and thorough. Out of the two locations I took the gre at, I prefer 80 broad street. You're provided with three noise cancellation headphones and the rooms are smaller. read more

The women working here are unpleasant. Yes, taking a test is hard. Yes, you have to abide by the rules: you have to walk through a metal detector, you have to show your pockets inside out, etc. It's how they go about delivering all of this, in an unpleasant way. They are rude. Their system is sometimes discombobulated, but they take it out on you. They bark orders at you. They really put you in a bad mood before you have to take this really difficult exam. Why can't they be nicer? Why can't they perform their job with a smile and pleasantness? They need some serious customer service training. Ugh. Example: when checking me in, I said do I get my key back. She barked, you must throw the tissue (that the other woman who works there gave me to wrap my earplugs in) away. I asked again about the key. Instead of answering me, she barked again: throw the tissue away. Then she barked, take a new tissue. Then barked, throw the old tissue away. They just treat you inhumane. It seems that they are really enjoying and getting off from being in a position of power to boss you around. And you must be silent and take their commands. They treat you like you are their prisoner. Not acceptable!!!! Not acceptable. Treat people with respect and humanity. And how stupid is it that YOUR worker gave me the tissue to wrap the earplugs, but then next woman says I have to throw it away. There are just idiotic systems here that don't make sense. And they deliver them in a rude manner. I have many other examples of their dehumanization...like insisting you SIT down in the waiting area. I don't want to!! I'm going to be sitting for 6 hours!! Hope I never have to come back here. read more

The best Prometric I've been to so far (the 3 others I've been to were in Connecticut or Florida). It's relatively new, spacious, comfortable. You have 3 sets of headsets to choose from (one for audio, one with noise-cancellation, and one of those industrial-looking noise blocking earmuffs). Several staff members were super nice, others were occasionally a bit curt, but it was for the sake of keeping things running quickly which I appreciated. Everyone was helpful. With taking breaks during testing, it can be a pain to sign in and out and go through the security measures each time, but they do their best to keep things moving as quickly as possible so your break time isn't eaten into with all these procedures. There are definitely better and less ideal areas of seating (near the door for instance is probably louder, near the window might be a bit warmer or bright depending on time of day). The room is a bit chilly for my standards (about 69-70 F based on the thermostat I saw), but I was fine in yoga pants and a hoodie. There are three different rooms, I assume for the variety of different tests available. Depending on the type of test you're taking, you may have different types of access to your locker (ie some tests you can access anything and be on your phone during breaks, while others may have limitations). Don't get there any earlier than 8am for your 8:30am scheduled test - security won't let you into the building before then! read more

PSA FOR ANYONE TAKING AN EXAM AT 384 Bridge STREET TOMORROW, JUNE 22nd. The site is CLOSED tomorrow and I had not gone to check out the site to get a "walk through" to ease my nerves before exam day, I NEVER would have found out that this center would be closed. I never received an email and when I was chatting with the staff about this, they seemed totally unphased and unapologetic about this circumstance. In fact, they told me "well, you'll just have to reschedule because your exam is canceled". Excuse me? Like anyone else taking an exam a test center, I've been preparing for months for my exam (Step 1) and the blasé and non fussed attitude, as if this is an every day occurrence, was so unacceptable to me. Beyond that, what if I didn't stop by the center to check it out? I would have shown up to the center in the morning expecting to take an exam. This is so entirely unacceptable. LUCKILY, I was able to reschedule to a different site in the city for the same day but I also had to foot the bill that comes with a late reschedule. I am floored that this happened but ultimately very thankful I was able to check out the center the day before. PLEASE make sure they are not closed on your exam date. read more

I arrived early for my day 2 of step 3 exam but found out that I did not have my ID on me"I know, it's my fault". I finally got it at 9:10 am just 10 min after the limit. They would not let me in. Keisha, the manager, was rude, unhelpful and showed no flexibility. I am a resident physician who has very limited time off. Now I have to deal with rescheduling and a delay on a very important test. All because Keisha did not want to stay 10 min extra. Staff were rude. I would not recommend this center read more

Took my psychiatry NBME here. Pretty decent center. It is newer and not as old/dumpy as some of the other Prometric centers. Staff were friendly and efficient. Easy to get to...located less than 5 minutes from a few different trains. No problems with noise here. Only complaint- sat by the window and the sun was shining right through their shades, just a tad distracting/blinding. Bathrooms were clean, they have an area to sit and eat. read more

Was told to come in 45 minutes to 1 hour early just to stand on the streets because they had a staff meeting upstairs. The security guard did not let anyone in the building. read more

Great experience. The staff here includes the security guys downstairs are very nice and helpful. The check in process is quick. I took a 4.5 hours exam here. The room is small. When a new tester comes in, he/ she is always accompanied by a staff to the seat and make sure them make no noise. There're also 3 types of earplugs to pick up. The only downside is that my seat was facing the window, during the exam, the direct sunlight was very strong on the 34 Floor even with the curtain closed. Would Suggest the facility to change a Curtain that can can totally block the sunshine in the future. read more

This is my first time taking an exam in a prometric center and honestly it was great. Everyone was super nice and helpful, the check in could take a bit long depending on how early you arrive (if you have an exam at 2pm, most likely 20 others also have an exam at 2pm) so go there earlier. Also make sure you have the correct forms of photo ID and you should be good! They even gave me a confirmation call the day before to remind me! My seat was literally by the door and I did not hear a single thing, probably cause I used the headsets (there were 3 on each desk!) so I didn't even need my own ear plugs lol I have heard that in other prometric testing centers, the computer screen could be widened, thus distorting the shapes for one part of my exam (I took the DAT) but I didn't have this problem at all.
