This is hard to say. And this school might be different now but in 1989, it ruined my entire youth!…read moreI was only 3. I was the first born, my parents weren't very nurturing, it showed in the classroom, I got bullied, the teachers didn't do anything to help, and when I fought back the teachers told my parents not to bring me back and that I needed a psychiatrist! I'm aware it's weird saying this 30 years later but my mom just informed me my teacher actually said "all children have learning disabilities." Thats downright ignorant and explains why I saw other pre K classmates in the same jokes for schools I ended up in. I had to take ADHD pills until I graduated college (with honors)! Graduating with honors implies I took school very seriously but my classmates were mostly monsters and I had to stoop to their level to fit in! And did I mention my medication side effects were downright embarrassing? The worst was being socially awkward and 10x as anxious. I'm in the real world now and doing perfectly fine off the meds. I have a social life with normal people and I'm a much better writer clear headed. Writing has always been my destiny. If I'm doing better outside my parents' houses (they're divorced) and outside of school, that suggests everyone made a big mistake!

As a mother of a senior, I can say with complete honesty that Regis High School has been one of the…read moregreatest blessings in my son's life--and in ours as a family. Beyond its well-known Jesuit academic excellence, what truly sets Regis apart is the extraordinary care and attention given to each boy. The faculty and staff do far more than teach; they guide, support, and form young men with integrity, compassion, and purpose. The range of extracurricular activities is exceptional, from STEM programs to Speech and Debate, allowing every student to find his passion and grow in confidence. But even more impressive is the way Regis instills values that shape the boys into remarkable young men--thoughtful, caring, and supportive of one another. It is a community in the truest sense: faculty, staff, students, and parents all connected by a shared mission. I will deeply miss being part of the Regis community, but I will always remain grateful. Regis has given my son not only an outstanding education, but a moral foundation and friendships that will last a lifetime. I could not have asked for a better home for him during these four years.

It's surprising how rarely people mention this about Regis, but some of the students--especially on…read morethe basketball team--show a real lack of respect and sportsmanship. The experience was honestly pretty disappointing. I've since heard similar stories from other teams ("yeah they're the biggest trash talkers we've seen") in the league, so it clearly isn't just a one-time thing. It's really unfortunate, because a few of us parents were actually thinking about applying and touring the school. Character should matter as much as talent, but that lesson seems to have been missed here.

I just recently moved to New York City from Singapore, so over the past few months I've been…read moreshopping around for a Jewish community that is as warm and friendly as the close-knit one I left behind in Asia. I've only been to SAJ once so far, but the experience was wonderful enough that I already feel confident writing this review. I went to SAJ tonight for a pre-Hanukkah party. Even though there were easily more than 100 people in the room (including many, many children under the age of 10), the chazzan, rabbi, and rabbi's wife all immediately recognized me as a newcomer and came up to chat within my first five minutes in the room. They were all very friendly and easy to talk to -- the rabbi's wife and I even have a mutual friend back in Singapore! I've visited a lot of synagogues around the city in the past few weeks, and my visit to SAJ was easily the most welcoming experience I've had yet. After that initial welcome, the rest of my experience at SAJ was equally great. Even though the party was mostly designed for the kids, there was still plenty that would appeal to adults. At one point the rabbi and another man staged a hilarious "latkes vs. hamantaschen" mock debate that addressed, among other things, the question of whether latkes might be partially responsible for climate change due to their relationship with oil. Ha! I'm going to keep exploring other shuls around the city, but I'll definitely head back to SAJ for Shabbat as soon as possible. My first visit was wonderful enough to convince me to give this community a second (and third, and forth) look!
