In February 2024 I took John Dokos PMA class and in August I passed the PMP. I highly recommend this class and John Dokos as an instructor.

To achieve the PMP certification, one must have experience as a project manager, must receive 35 hours of approved education, and pass an exam. I used Project Management Academy's class to fulfill the education requirement. I opted to take the one week course. And I'm glad I did; I didn't want to drag it out. During the course, our instructor Sean Coyle, hit all of the right highlights of the PMBOK that one needs to know to be a competent project manager and to pass the exam. We were aptly socially distanced in the room for safety and required to wear masks. (This was before widespread vaccinations so rules may have changed.) Materials were well taught and I passed the exam on my first try, scoring Above Target on all three sections. I recommend the course if you're considering getting a PMP. I suggest ensuring that your work experience will be sufficient to get the certification before enrolling. In conclusion, I recommend this program. read more

I took the PMP Bootcamp course January 3-6 with David Smyth, and it was a great experience. I went into the course with some trepidation, but David did a great job of guiding the class through the exam material. He was very patient as he introduced us to new concepts, and he answered our questions. I also appreciated how the PMA provided ample resources for studying once the course was over. I chose the 8 day - half day lessons, because it would have felt like too much information to learn each day. My instructor was Mr. David Smyth. David was an excellent instructor that provided great insight and real-world examples of the material being covered. I took Project Management Academy's PMP Boot Camp December 17-20. It was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in the Denver Tech Center. Jim Stewart was the instructor. The class and Jim did a great job helping me prepare for the PMP Exam. I passed the exam on my first attempt with an overall rating of high proficiency. The class was well organized and Jim was a top notch instructor. He is very knowledgeable. The materials and resources might be the biggest advantage of the class. The binder, study guide, and laminated reference (cheat) sheets make learning and studying so much easier. Additionally, students have access to an online resource center, including videos and practice tests. This was the key to my success. The videos basically go through the entire four day course again, section by section. You follow along in your three ring binder from class, pausing the videos and making additional notes, or referencing things in the PMBOK. There is a timed test of 40-60 questions after each section (there are also full 200 question practice exams). I'm convinced using the online study aids is how I passed the exam on my first try. The strategy guide was also very helpful in learning the 'tricks' PMI uses when writing their questions. Project Management Academy was not the cheapest option but I'm very glad I spent the extra money and chose them. It seems there are a ton of fly-by-night outfits offering bargain PMP boot camps. Project Management Academy provides top notch instruction, materials, customer service (real people who speak English), and a nice classroom setting. The included breakfast, snacks, and lunch were great too. read more

I took the PMP bootcamp from PMA and passed the PMP test on the first attempt. The class was indispensable in passing the exam. I studied very hard beforehand but study alone is insufficient. Jim Stewart, the instructor, did an excellent job focusing on the most important portions of the test. The materials which were provided were also excellent. I had one friend who joined me for the class and he passed the exam as well. I don't know what the success rate is for other classes, but I do know that the PMA boot camp will significantly increase your chances for success! read more

I was in the November 6-9 class for veterans. I found it extremely useful. I have been taking PM courses through Drexel University and i felt that this course really put things in perspective for me; I ended up understanding the process a lot better. My instructors were Mike Strachan and Chris (I am forgetting his last name), which were both fantastic instructors. Mike being a vet definitely aided him in articulating and give examples that we could relate to and understand easier. I took the PMP Boot Camp offered by Project Management Academy in Dec 2014. The instructor was Gregg Ritchie. Both Gregg's instruction and the Project Management Academy (PMA) curriculum are excellent. PMA structures the material in a more chronological (and as a result more realistic and understandable order) than the PMBOK, which simply structures it by Knowledge Areas. Gregg has 100% expert knowledge of the material and provides helpful examples from his own extensive experience in the field. Not only can he quote a definition or an equation, but he can give you the exact page number from the 580+ page PMBOK. In addition to the in-class instruction, PMA also offers access to incredible online resources- video lectures, e-flash cards, practice tests, and live, weekly Office Hours with PM experts who can address any of your questions. The Academy's PMP Strategy Guide is also a great resource and gives excellent suggestions and tools for studying for the exam- examples of trick questions, commonly confused concepts, as well as "what to expect on exam day" information to help you prepare. At the conclusion of the course, Gregg personally provided practice calculations and recommendation for further reading. I took this course in Denver March 14-17. The instructor, Martin Payne, was professional and personable. He made learning the material interesting and was great at keeping us engaged for the duration of the course. The PMA's curriculum, additional learning tools, and sample test are an excellent resource to learn the PMBOK material in a more logical and chronological order (and as a result more realistic and understandable) than the PMBOK. Where the PMBOK structures the information by Knowledge Areas, PMA provides the information in real world, process order - Initiate, Plan, Execute, Monitor & Control, and Close. Martin not only knew the material but also had experience putting into practice. He provided constant tips to help us remember key information along with helpful insights on the exam. In addition, the PMA also has great online resources and webinars for students to utilize in preparation for the exam. After the course finished on Thursday, using the online resources all weekend, I took the exam the following Tuesday and passed. I took the 4-day course held Jun 22-25, 2015 in Greenwood Village with Martin Payne as the instructor. I've been managing projects for years but I had no idea how best to complete the credentialing process or prepare for the exam. The PMBOK manual is now 580 pages - where do you even start? Marty solved all that. I was in a class of about 15 people -- experienced, sharp people but we didn't know much about passing the PMP exam when we started. Over the 4 days Marty took us through the PMP Process Groups and Knowledge Areas, with an emphasis on 1) what the 47 processes are, 2) how they link together, 3) how to recall them and use use his teaching as a basis for 4) what the PMP would actually test! We were pretty clueless at the start, and we all hoped we wouldn't get called on for Marty's first practice questions the morning of the first day. By the time we took the practice exam on Day 4 we all had a solid grounding in PMP, and we could reasonably argue about the questions. You still need to plan more study after the course, but that was 3 weeks ago and I took and passed the PMP exam this morning on my first try! I can't say enough about Marty -- he was sharp, engaged and entertaining throughout the 4-day class, and his training made organizing the material and passing the exam possible. Whatever expectations I had before the class began, Marty exceeded them! The Project Management Academy materials are wonderfully thought-out (and a great help) as well. If you want the PMP credential you can't do better than Marty Payne and Project Management Academy. He couldn't have done more to earn my respect and my thanks...! read more

I took the virtual class 6/22/15-6/26/15 with Gary Lind. While I obviously have an extensive PM background, I have never been part of a PMO or used the formal PMBOK method. I do not know how long it would have taken me to pass the PMP test without the class and Gary. (With PMA and Gary-1st time!) The resources provided were exactly what I needed to supplement the PMBOK. Gary was equally essential in highlighting test-relevant items, recommending an effective test prep approach, and providing critical information and resources not contained in the PMBOK. His feedback and recommendations were also critical for me to successfully complete my PMP application. I know of others who have taken other courses and were far less prepared to take the exam. PMA is well worth the money. read more

I recently attended (July 2014) the PMA boot camp in the Denver Tech Center. Gaining PMP certification is critical to my current job and I needed to pass the exam as quickly as possible. This course was very well organized and taught by a recognized expert (Gregg Richie) in the field of program management. The course and associated training materials, and access to the PMA website allowed me to quickly and effectively learn a vast amount of material in a short time. I was really pleased with my experience with the Project Management Academy. I participated in the virtual two-weekend Boot Camp. It was like drinking from a firehouse- but my instructor, Lenora, did a great job of really breaking down the material and giving us helpful hints to remember the concepts.
