I have been training with Joe for over five years, and it has truly been a game changer. Before working with him, I was in constant pain from my desk job and relied on weekly visits to my chiropractor. Joe taught me how to improve my posture, move correctly, and build a stronger mind-body connection. Through consistent functional Patterns training, my pain gradually eased, and my chiropractor visits decreased from weekly to just once a month. Beyond helping me become stronger and more mobile, Joe has given me the tools and knowledge to take better care of my body every day. I'm incredibly grateful for his guidance and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their health, mobility, and overall quality of life. read more

I've been training with Joe for 3 years and he's really helped me understand my body and learn to control and adjust it. He brings energy and positivity to every session, is extremely flexible and responsive with communication, and goes the extra mile for you. I recommended him to anyone looking to get stronger and especially for folks in any kind of chronic pain. read more

I've been training with Joe (Functional Patterns) for almost three years--both privately and in small classes. I came in with multiple injuries and chronic pain. Joe designed sessions around my exact problem areas, constantly adjusting as I improved. At 74, I'm moving better than I have in decades--and I'm back to driving a golf ball 280 yards. Joe is patient, precise, and results-focused. If you're dealing with pain or feel stuck, go see Joe. He doesn't just work you out--he helps you move right. Truly life-changing. read more

I have been coached by Joseph for a few years via Functional Patterns gym classes and recently as a private training client. The classes are fun and great, incorporating the fundamentals of Functional Patterns to work on improving posture, strength training and boxing. Joseph leads the class and somehow can still point out and correct any individual need that he notices in a class full of attendees. The private training with Joseph has dramatically boosted my performance and understanding of the Functional Patterns ethos and method (standing, walking, running, throwing). I have always been pretty athletic and have thus suffered a number of sports injuries through the years. Working with Joseph and his way of teaching Functional Patterns has made me aware of areas I need to work on to fix faulty ingrained movement patterns which have clearly contributed to some of those injuries. It's not only that I'm working towards a better body and performance, it's as if I am moving towards a new body that is functioning on a much higher level (stronger, taller, less pain). I would highly recommend Joseph as a trainer to anyone, of any age and/or any fitness level, who is looking to improve or optimize their individual physical wellbeing. read more

After serious injury from a car accident years ago, I tried everything from physical therapy to chiropractic, massage to exercise. But nothing has helped me more than Functional Patterns with Joseph to regain proper structure, posture, and breathing. I am so thankful to Joseph for his expert guidance and efficiency, I couldn't recommend working with him enough! read more

Been working with Joseph for almost two years -- he coached me leading up to the 2024 Olympics. Only good things to say -- super professional and always there to push you when you need it. He really understands what your body needs (in my case, I had to get stronger in specific areas for swimming). If you're looking to get healthier and stronger, definitely reach out to FP and Joseph! read more

Joe has done for me what no other trainer could. I have had chronic pain for 15 years and no matter what fitness model I've tried or how many physical therapists I saw, nothing has actually helped me get strong and stay pain free until I worked with him! read more

I've been working with Joseph for over 3 years, and he's the best personal trainer I've ever had. Working me hard, but also incredibly hard working himself. Always providing extra care in positioning, breathing, and preventing injury. I can't recommend Joseph enough. read more

Joe is the best trainer you could work with if your goals are to eliminate chronic pain, regulate your nervous system and move well for the rest of your life. His knowledge of the human body is unmatched; as a yoga teacher, he teaches me new things about how our anatomy works within every session. My posture and alignment has changed so significantly that many of my friends comment on how much taller I am. I used to have daily headaches and with the corrective exercises, self-massage techniques and nutrition coaching he's offered me, I rarely get a headache. His approach is holistic and effective, and he's the most compassionate person I've ever met. I look forward to every session and can't recommend him enough! What you put in will return to you tenfold. read more

When multiple combinations of physical therapy and acupuncture didn't relieve my pain, Joseph helped me change my posture, gait and movement to relieve pain. I'm more active thanks to his Functional Patterns training. If you're willing to put in the time, consistency, attention to detail and hard work, Functional Patterns training with Joseph can help you move better, feel better and become more active too. Seriously, it's way harder than any kind of PT I've ever done. But it's also the most effective pain relief I've found in the area. read more

I've participated in group workout classes led by Joseph over the past two years. He is an excellent instructor. Due to personal circumstances I've had to recently (hopefully temporarily) discontinue classes. Joseph is very knowledgeable about how the body "functions" - Always explaining what muscles are being used during each exercise. Individual attention is limited in a group setting but he manages to give everyone individual help when needed. Also, he's a really nice human being! Great sense of humor and shows genuine care and concern for each person in the class. Funds permitting, I wouldn't hesitate to use Joseph as a personal trainer. read more

I've trained with Joe over the past 2+ years and highly recommend his functional movement personal training. Joe is dedicated and pushes you toward your best. It's made a big difference for my posture and ability to move more consistently without pain. Highly recommend! read more

I have been attending Joseph's Functional Pattern fitness class for a year and highly recommend both him and the class! He makes it fun and challenging, no matter what your age or level of fitness. He is attentive to detail, especially correct posture and how the body is meant to move as a whole. He is very knowledgeable about the body and how it is connected and meant to move. This has resulted in more fluid joints, better balance, strength, posture and flexibility. He also is a great guy, very kind, supportive, encouraging and motivating. You won't regret training with Joseph, he'll take you from where you're at and help you to move forward with your fitness goals! read more

I hadn't heard about functional patterns training before, so didn't realize that was exactly what I needed! Joseph makes the exercises interesting, and explains why focusing on your body's alignment is critical for all of the exercises. He is meticulous in making sure everyone is doing the movements correctly, so there is less chance of injury. I have gained core strength, better balance, coordination, flexibility, and overall muscle strength which is just what I was hoping for. I highly recommend Joseph and functional pattern training! read more

Since I injured my back I've tried a lot of things to heal and get stronger. Joseph has helped me tremendously in this feat. He is the best trainer I've worked with. Joseph's style of training is motivating, cool, and rewarding. I couldn't recommend him enough. I've never felt better. read more

Joe is a top-notch practitioner that will teach you how to move and also explain why it matters and how the system is connected. Both the pain in my shoulders and lower back are gone. Highly recommend for anyone that is looking for long-term results that will last. I've been working with Joe for the last few months and I couldn't be happier with the investment. Joseph is the best! Extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. Love working with him!

I have greatly improved my strength and posture since working with Joseph this past year. I came to Functional Patterns 6 months after herniating my L4/L5 disk, looking for a trainer to start me on the path to a healthier back. Joseph led me through exercises that were appropriate, focusing on mastering fundamentals and building up strength before moving onto more challenging exercises. He does an excellent job explaining the "why" behind the exercise; he also has a gift for figuring out where to apply MFR to treat a sore muscle/joint with quick results. He is patient and encouraging, but also challenges you to do your best. I love the results- I am back to gardening and I am able to carry my 24 lb grandson without pain/tiredness. read more

Joseph has been my trainer for over 3 years. He is patient and non judgmental, but also kind. I've gotten in really good shape while following his coaching. read more

Joe is an amazing training. Extremely knowledgeable and more than willing to break things down in as much detail to his ability. Working wIth a trainer is a different kind of workout in that it requires active thinking as opposed to just going thru the motions. Joe's creativity with his workouts takes that shit up another level of intensity. If you are looking to invest in yourself and make a difference for the better with your health Joe is the way to go. read more

I've trained with Joseph for at least 5 years and no one has a better understanding of how bodies are meant to move. He breaks it down to the fundamentals and builds from there to keep things interesting and challenging. With his guidance I feel stronger, more agile, and more coordinated in my 40s than I did 10 or even 20 years ago. read more

Update: 3 years later, and in the middle of all this COVID mess, still training with Joe. I can't express enough how much this has done for my physical and emotional health. When the lockdown started, Joe was quick to get us set up with online training. He is still an amazing trainer, and this just makes me respect him all the more. I would recommend him (and do!) to anyone. read more

The gym is very clean and trainers are awesome! Everyone is super nice and knowledgeable. When you're there, you feel like you're part of a supportive fitness community. Great energy. They work you hard but it make it fun. Joseph was awesome to work with. He was able to assess issues with my form and weaknesses. He showed me corrective exercises to address the issues I had. He was very good at explaining everything to me and how it impaired my overall workout - preventing major injuries down the line. read more

My mom started training with Joe a couple years ago and not long after that I started training with him. I felt really uncomfortable at first like most of us, I didn't know much about working out correctly. Joe is very patient and committed. He worked with me until I started to look forward to my workouts! I can now go into a gym and workout with correct posture and good form. I have fun with my workouts that are tailored specifically for me and the goals I have. I feel great when I walk out of there and ready for the day! He has also helped me shift my entire mindset on nutrition. He is very knowledgable and always ready to answer my questions. I've noticed positive changes physically and mentally :) read more

I never thought I would work with a personal trainer, because I'm an active person who's always been health conscientious, however I have learned so much from Joe. His rates are beyond great for what you get from him. He's a committed trainer who has the best heart and really really cares about your overall being. Joe embodies the best you can get. He has a wonderful positive personality and so fun to workout with that the hour often feels like it passes by in 5 minutes. He comes up with new ideas for a great workout that challenges your body to the limit. He corrects me whenever I'm doing something wrong and helps me understand the mechanics behind each moves/action. If anything, Joe is an investment- he adds to the list of my workouts that I'd be able to do on my own one day. By training with him, you'll not only be more informative about how to be healthy, but also how to challenge your body to its limits. I feel like my repertoire of workouts and the knowledge I've gained is something extremely invaluable to me and I couldn't be ever more appreciative that Joe was the one to guide me. So fun to be around with that instead of thinking about going to work out, it's like hanging out with a friend with health benefits! Rest assured, no matter how enjoyable his workouts are, Joe remains a professional and makes a point to keep proper form and focus on your goals, therefore I trust him. In the end, it is YOU that must put in the work and he is there to support you 100% of the way. If there are any doubts, check out Joe for yourself. You won't regret it. read more

I met Joe through group classes at Body Mechanix and I started doing personal training with him through Fitness Mindset maybe six months ago. Joe is very attentive to any problems/injuries you have. I had a shoulder injury that was always bothering me when I worked out. We did rehab for a couple months, and it rarely gives me any problems now. When I got a knee injury or my muscles are right, we do PLENTY of rolling to make sure the knots go away. I told him I'm trying to get into running and we started tibialis work so I wouldn't get shin splits. Joe knows how to take care of you. He emphasizes good posture and technique when exercising which has spilled over into life outside the gym. I'm always adjusting myself when I have a moment to be aware of my body whether it's making sure my knees aren't going in or straightening my spine. During the workout, Joe is very patient with me while I make unenthusiastic faces and noises. He puts up with my attitude with his good sense of humor. Every once in awhile he will throw in something random to keep it interesting like standing on my head or agility work. He makes it a fun experience. Joe is pretty punctual. When he has clients back to back, sometimes I'll start my session a couple minutes late but he makes sure to give me the full hour. When I tell him I need to leave right at the end of my hour, he accommodates it. He's also really flexible when it comes to rescheduling. I'd recommend Joe to anyone. He's got a lot of tricks up his sleeve (aka different ways of torture) to challenge you in a good way. He listens to you and your goals and makes them happen. read more

I've been working with Joseph for over a month now and the experience has been seriously great! I've done numerous boot camps and fitness classes but working with Joseph made me realize how beneficial it is to have a trainer who can provide on the spot guidance and feedback. Joe gets results. After years of range of motion problems and back issues, after just a few sessions, Joe has helped me improve greatly. I am now nine months in and I don't have the back/sciatica problems anymore and my range of motion is improving daily. I have lost weight, and feel better. Joe is a really great listener, and is able to develop programs tailored to your goals. If you are serious about fitness, Joe will help you. I can't recommend him enough! I've never been worked so hard in my life; and, yet, I've never had as much support as I received here. Nutrition education plays as much a part of physical fitness as the physical activity. I've tried gyms, and I've tried diets, and few have any lasting effect. However, after working out here for two years (and counting), I've gained a ton of muscle mass without gaining a pound of total body weight. I feel fantastic, and for those times when I get sick with something, it usually passes much faster than it ever did before. Strongly recommended, and I've been referring people to their various locations for several years now. read more

I've been training with Joe for a few months now and his way of training has benefited me in so many ways. As a hairstylist working long hours on my feet, I have suffered ongoing neck and back pain for 8 years now. Little did I know that I wasn't doomed to that for the rest of my career. Joe has guided me through forms of stretching, strengthening and a balanced diet in order to better my health and strengthen my body. I met Joseph about 2 years ago when I started going to his 5AM Body Conditioning class at Body Mechanix. I transitioned into personal training with Joseph because I wanted a more personal focus to improve my strength and conditioning. Joseph takes the time and thought to help you define your fitness goals and then work safely and efficiently to help you move towards them. He establishes a great balance between challenging workouts that get results, along with overall wellness and nutrition (rolling, stretching, and diet). Working out with Joseph reduced my overall level of body pain and stiffness significantly. I progressed from not being able to bend my knees to get down on the floor, to doing squats without pain. I sleep soundly, and my energy level feels balanced throughout the day. Joseph was also instrumental in making sure I stayed focused, so I would look great for my daughter's wedding (must look good in my Mother of the Bride dress). I recently suffered an injury to my right shoulder. Under Joseph's guidance, along with Mistie (Massage Therapist) and Dr. Alicia (Chiropractor) from Body Mechanix, I was able to recover from the injury. If you're ready to make a change, I highly recommend Joseph at Fitness Mindset! He has a positive outlook and is always encouraging. You will be totally satisfied working with Joseph to achieve your fitness goals. read more

I have to say, Joseph with Fitness Mindset is awesome! I came to him with a running injury and he had me out running again in 4 weeks. He taught me about proper form and the importance of strength and conditioning. I also really enjoyed the atmosphere of the gym. If you are thinking about hiring a personal trainer, you need to check out Joe. I met and worked with him a few years ago but then like most people, I stopped working out because life got in the way. When I decided I needed to get off my butt and get back into it, I looked into other places and trainers but none of them made any great impressions. So, because I knew Joe and his training style, I contacted him and have been working out with him 3x/week since April. Of course he expects you to do your best and try your hardest but hes chill about it. I have gotten a lot stronger and leaner without feeling like I die at every workout. Hes worked with me to strengthen not only my problem areas (who doesnt have those?), but my whole body. He respects your goals and what youre willing to do to help yourself (nutrition, homework, etc). Hes not pushy or strict which I like. He makes every work out fun. read more
