Brass tacks: Go for it. If you are a Jazz lover: Go for it. If you are an aficionado who would…read morerather rub shoulders with a mostly black audience of die-hard fans, rather than tech bros from Silicone Beach: Go for it. Great acts. Unpretentious. You meet all types--old and young, black and asian, westside and eastside, rich and poor. I suddenly was reminded by a documentary on LA's Jazz Scene--a documentary on KCET that focused on The Blue Whale in Little Tokyo--that I still have not written a review about The World Stage. The Blue Whale is a bit more upscale and attracts a little yuppie boho crowd. There's some of that at The World Stage. The difference: At The World Stage, the tech bros show up with their barely-hatched dates to show how "woke" they are...and then they're gone after the first half hour. So don't worry if seating seems tight: Brad & Grace are soon to be out-y. There's a real community vibe. Older women who are clearly volunteers greet you, very politely. They're often in shimmering gowns. And you can sense how much they care about the business. They'll offer you food and libations for a small donation. There's also some kind of more substantial fare offered by an independent vendor in the smoking patio. I really like sitting next to some of the oldtimers--some in their sixties and seventies. I'm not that young...am pushing fifty. But I'm at that stage in life when I identify with people who are their for true loves that are not instagrammable. These guys know what they're about. And you can tell they are really thinking about how to spend their entertainment dollars. The World Stage doesn't come super-cheap. And it's not a fancy venue...though it is in the heart of one of the great black neighborhoods--Leimert Park--and it's much cheaper than a few drinks at a yuppie bar with noisy muzak. I go here every few months. Wish there were more venues like this. And if you caught the KCET documentary, which focused entirely on the yuppie Blue Whale: This place is better. And you won't have to pay for parking!

With a storied past, this cultural gem continues to provide a space for creatives and listeners to experience intimate performances. No drink minimum, no parking fee, only $20 per ticket -- an absolute bargain! And to see world class musicians in such a small venue with a super chill vibe is amazing!!! 10 points for the sound man who does an OUTSTANDING job!!!

Let's start with the bad, first! Many times the popcorn may not be freshly popped but already made…read moreup! This would be fine if the prices were reduced for cold popcorn. I take my popcorn seriously! Like most of my bought food; I like it fresh & hot! I deal with it! Now; recently, they have changed the snack pack box! I don't like the fact that it seems smaller than the regular snack pack box and I was told that I couldn't get the regular snack pack box because of some promotion and now they must give out these new boxes; which seem smaller! Anyhow; I don't like them and if I'm paying my money; I want what I want! Those are my problems; however minor to some but when you are a paying customer; you want what you want! Also; why are things tailored to buy in abundance? Why are there no specials for single grown ups like a medium soda and medium drink? Why can't that be offered as a package deal? The good; customer service is usually pretty good! Lines usually move quickly! It's a nice small place to watch a good movie and I can avoid crowds unless the movies are extremely crowded due to a big showing; like spider man! Those crowds were huge! They have Security so that is always a plus! Parking is close and not so far! I see they offer some specials if you join their club but I'm not familiar with that; just yet! If you don't like standing in line to buy a ticket; you can use the kiosk! Ironically; this is the only place/business I don't mind using the kiosk to purchase a ticket! By now; with all the purchases I've made; I can't help but imagine what savings I would've accumulated! I'll see about joining this club they have for savings but I tried once and it seemed to have you doing a lot! Anyhow; I appreciate the service and while I give it an above average score; there is still room for improvement!

I've been coming to this theater since I was in middle school. I remember catching the bus and…read morewatching Captain America: Civil War here. Although everyone seems to have an issue with this theater, it has always been my ole reliable. Today, I had a horrible experience. I'm the eldest sibling of 5 kids. My mom has been sick for a little while now, so I wanted to take my siblings out, and I decided to bring them to the movies. We wanted to watch The Odyssey, but unfortunately we couldn't because it was rated R. I'm 23 years old, my brother is 21, my sister is 17, and my other sister is 15. I've never had an issue bringing any of them in before, but the manager, whose name I don't remember, kept insisting that she couldn't do anything and denied letting my sister in. The only alternative she offered was for us to watch another movie. I understand policies, I work in customer service too but I've never met someone who couldn't even attempt to be a little flexible. Again, I've never had this issue happen before, and honestly, it really ruined what was supposed to be a fun day with my siblings. I just wish there had been more empathy, this honestly came as a surprise.
