It was our first visit to Prohibition Food and Wine last weekend, and I definitely think I'll go back for sure. The food was lovely and the staff were friendly and they handled a bad situation quite well ... Initially everything was going smoothly; the food came out promptly etc. But then when the mains were due to come out, there was a hefty delay and other tables received their orders before us who placed ours before them. Then ours came out in drips and drabs. I figure the waitress might have forgotten to place our order, however, before we got upset that this was taking so long, they already offered us a round of complimentary drinks. When the food eventually did come out, it was all delicious. I must say, some of the items are a little pricey for what you get, but the taste made up for it. Their cheesecake was one of the very best I've had, but looked different to the pics on social media, and was pricey for the small size. When we went to pay the bill, they took 10% off also to make up for the inconvenience, which goes a long way with me. The good will they showed us, meant that they were genuinely sorry, and I'm very happy to go back again. I love their varied menu, and again, everything was really tasty. I loved the decor too, and parking was easy enough. I think overall, it's a great place for dinner with friends or family and though they got quite busy, it wasn't excessively noisy, which I also like. Happy to recommend eating here, as it became a good experience overall. read more

So, this place was once a bank, but now it happens to be a wine bar (I know it was a bank because the vault is still there, though I wonder if modern banks still have the vaults - it doesn't look like it, at least like the ones in these old banks). I actually suspect that this is located in the section of Melbourne that was known as the dry zone, which is why there is a huge area to the east of the city where there are absolutely no pubs. However, this is a wine bar, and yeah, it wasn't great, but at least they had some nice beers on tap. read more

As a local I would love to give a positive review however our experience was less than positive. We were made to sit on bar stools which for older people was not ideal. My seat was close to the kitchen corridor which was breezy and distracting from the close distance to both kitchen and wait station. All courses came in staggered procession. Meaning some dinners finished before others started for all courses. Staff were apologetic but this is not good enough when entertaining others from interstate.. Could and needs to better. read more

Recommended by friends, we decided to give it a try. Set in an old bank building, the menu had a variety of Asian & Mediterranean dishes. Four of us shared small plates of beautiful tender calamari, filling crab croquettes and fresh burrata. We ordered the grilled Turkish bread to accompany the burrata dish which needed something. Burrata could have been fresher and gooier. Our choice of drinks were a pint of tasty pale ale and bottle of Pinot Grigio that were priced on par. We continued on to share a larger plate of steamed BBQ pork bun and aromatic Thai-seasoned black mussels with fragrant rice with a side of roasted broccolini -- both delicious. We all shared one dessert of a fabulous chocolate terrine with black berry sauce -- it did not need the popped corn, though. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience. read more

Prohibition - Consistently excellent!!!! - Bars Near Me - Camberwell, VIC

We have been to Prohibition a few times before and have always have a great meal. Tonight however, was another level! We visited Prohibition tonight for my wife's birthday, so as you can expect we were after a memorable evening and meal. Both were achieved easily! Prohibition is set in an old renovated bank that has the modern look with a sense of the old as well (a vault is available if you have enough guests). So we were off to a good start on the feel of the place already! The menu has varied selection of small and large share plates and a brilliant drinks list. After deliberating for a small while on what we should attack, the decision was made to attempt the Banquet for 2. Wow were we not disappointed!! The menu changes every 3-4 months or so, so there is no point me putting in every dish...however, I will mention the Pork Buns..WOW!! The Pork bun dish is not what you'd expect, it actually has a portion of pork belly instead of pulled pork, and what a difference it makes. The belly together with pickled carrot, dried onions, coriander and house secret sauce, makes this dish out of this world! Overall what an amazing night and meal! Can't wait to go back! read more

All eyes were on the redevelopment of the old bank in the Burwood village shopping strip in late 2015. It soon became apparent that a bar and restaurant were taking shape inside. Given that this address is inside the 'dry area' which has restricted the development of proper food culture in the inner east for many decades, this was a welcome sight. Soon enough Prohibition opened its doors and was promptly swamped by a mix of curious locals and others from further afield. The space is not large, so it tends to get quite busy and very noisy, despite the high ceiling. Demand has meant staggered booking times so expect 90-120 minutes per dinner slot. There is a combination of tables and benches for dining, and a somewhat cramped bar area for those popping in for a cocktail or waiting for their table. In good weather there are outside seating options for a more casual experience. The wine list covers all the bases, there is a slightly disappointing selection of beers, and a range of cocktails. A little bit of everything really. Food wise everything is presented very nicely and is pretty good. Last time I had the cotoletta and couldn't fault it. This place is not cheap, so expectations were pretty high. There have been some complaints about the service, and whilst some staff were more approachable than others, they got the job done, just in a sort of fragmented way. I really don't know if Prohibition has worked out who its target market is yet. The prices suggest fine dining, but the crowded noisy atmosphere strays into up-market pub territory. It will be interesting to see how things develop from here. One thing is clear though, this type of concept was a sorely needed addition to the area. read more

It's great to have somewhere local you can go for a drink since the area is a dry zone - which makes the name of the restaurant comical as well. Have had the burgers and the polenta chips here and both were great. Probably could do with a bit more outdoor furniture and some umbrellas as it gets really cramped inside near the bar and the seated section seems empty - and there are only two tables outside. Maybe mixing up the furniture to meet what everyone loves about the place would make it even better. read more

Dropped in here on my way home for a drink, although was enjoying it so much decided to stay for dinner. Great food with different menu and certainly not too expensive. Definitely worth a try for anyone in the area. read more

Was really looking forward to going to this place to help a good friend celebrate a significant birthday at a Sunday lunch. Turns out these guys had also booked the place out for a wedding - we were told 3 days before our function that we could no longer dine in the restaurant but would be relegated to the Strongroom my friend had specifically chosen this place because of the restaurant's supposed ambience and now we were to be relegated to a dark cave because of a wedding party, one that the owners knew was happening and yet they still took my friend's booking several weeks ago. I won't ever bother dining at this place - suggest that if you are considering this place you might like to check what else is booked in, particularly if you are booking to celebrate something significant. read more
