Upgrading because Progressive finally squared things with my health provider. It took a few months and a letter to the California Department of Insurance, but they finally came around. The final warning still stands, though: in a personal-injury case, talk with a lawyer before you sign anything. If you like dealing with people who will take advantage of you every step of the way, Progressive is the company for you. Their claims adjuster snookered me into accepting a settlement for a personal injury claim that turned out to be about 5% of the emergency room and ambulance charges. She knew how big they'd be and how long it would take for them to hit, and she knew I didn't, so she fleeced me like a sheep, smiling all the time. Now my health provider and I are on the hook for $23,000. I've never been one of their insureds, and never will be, after reading those people's reviews. I'm posting this to warn people: if you need to file a claim with them, get a lawyer first, and don't sign anything without checking with your lawyer. read more

I called progressive to get a quote for my vehicle. It ended up being the equivalent of a FBI interview where I was asked to disclose very personal informations about myself, my education etc..... Felt totally disrespected to have my privacy infringed in such a way . What they should ask is about your driving records not if you have somebody living with you and many more inappropriate questions that I would not dare to even ask a close friend I am absolutely enraged at the process and even wondering if this is legal. Oh my gosh. Please don't use progressive. I've had them for a long time. Always paid and zero claims. The other day someone stole fuel out of my truck. I did not notice when I got in a drove away (it's a 1999 model, and doesn't have low-fuel alarms). I ran out of fuel about a mile away from my office. I have full roadside assistance. So I figured I'd call progressive for roadside assistance (just for a gallon or two of fuel). Apparently, progressive uses subcontractors for their roadside assistance. When I called progressive for roadside assistance, they forwarded me to their subcontractor. Just to bring a gallon or two for fuel, he told me I have a $250 deductible, and I have to put a $500 deposit. Unbelievable! First of all, my max exposure (my deductible) was $250. What's up with the $500? Secondly, a local tow truck charged me $95 to do it. When I called progressive, they said it was up to the contractors on how much they charge, etc. Excuse me? When I signed up with progressive, they were very clear and assuring they had me covered. Total scam. Total waste of money paying your progressive premium. I'm canceling all of our vehicle and other insurance policies with progressive, and will tell everyone I know just how bad progressive is. Their greed and outright deception is very sad. read more

The worst auto insurance company! Most of the representatives are either unresponsive, or rude and pushy. They will always try to lowball your car, so you don't get a fair settlement. They shut down multiple attempts I made to provide legitimate comparables. Then they just invoked the appraisal clause, forcing me to hire my own appraiser out of pocket, with NO explanation of why I wasn't allowed to submit more comparables. The lack of transparency and communication made this entire process feel like a fight at every step. We will never insure with Progressive again, and I recommend you do the same. read more

I was rear-ended last October. Nothing major but my bumper needed to be repaired. I filed my claim with Progressive and I didn't hear anything for about a week so I reached out. The person in charge of my claim told me he didn't have any information for me and was still waiting for the police report. To speed things up, I went to the police station to get the report myself. Once I got a copy, I sent it to my claim representative. Another week went by with no communication. I reached out again. The rep told me they're trying to figure out if the other party has insurance. I was thinking to myself, how long does that really take? Two more weeks went by! When I reached out again, I found out that my claim rep was no longer working at the company! I got a new person to manage my claim and things seemed straightforward after that. Progressive sent me the estimated total for my repair work minus my deductible. I dropped my car off at a Tesla certified collision center. It only took the collision center a week to fix the bumper but I wasn't able to pick up the car for another week because they were "hashing something out" with Progressive. The collision center told me in order to remain Tesla certified, they couldn't use aftermarket or third party parts when doing repairs. Progressive says they'll only pay for aftermarket parts if available. Long story short I was stuck covering the difference which was an extra ~$400 on top of my deductible. Absolutely the worst customer service and claim experience. Currently, I have a glass claim. Safelite Auto Glass completed the work by installing a damaged aftermarket rear window and seal. I'm going through hell just to get them to make good on the terrible service that I received from Safelite regarding the botched installation. It has been 1 month and I'm still waiting to have them install oem glass due to their mistake. They won't even credit me the cost of a car cover to protect the vehicle from the rain that's forecasted for this weekend. I got into an accident determined that I was not at fault. I had three adjusters assigned to the claim. The first one gave me the wrong information regarding a network shop available in my area. The next one provided me with incorrect information. The MRR was great! The last claim representative had an attitude. During the process, my insurance agent mentioned something called diminished value. I submitted for a claim for this. Progressive does not want to pay out on a valid claim due to a prior claim from the previous owner with State Farm. I called State Farm insurance and the shop that did the repairs. The claim did not pay out anything, and the shop is a sister shop to the one that completed my repairs for my accident. The first shop only replaced a bumper. Nothing major that would reduce the value of my vehicle. However, from the fender bender I was just in, the damage was over $5,800! I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they sent me a trade-in valuation for the difference in the value of my car prior to the accident and post-accident. They determined the diminished value to be at $4,725. Giving them the benefit of the doubt for the former bumper repair, taking the current values from the estimate for my repairs, a bumper and a reflector come to $255. I submitted a claim for $4,470 for diminished value. I sent this response to the claim representative: A minor bumper dent that a claim had no payout on did not diminish the value on (my vehicle). State Farm agrees with me, as well as the Service King shop in Spring, along with my insurance agent. Progressive's policy or rules or whatever that govern prior claims needs to consider the entire claim. The fact that it was not even reported on the Carfax should tell you something. A minor dent in a bumper It's definitely different than all the damage that was caused by the Tacoma that backed into the back of my car. $5800 + worth. You can get a copy of the service invoice from the shop in Spring, TX as the insurance company. You agreed to insure my car. This accident was not my fault and I have provided sufficient evidence to show that there is definitely a diminished value from the accident on 3/28/2023 per a reputable Toyota dealership. The two accidents are not similar. Not even close. You have the figures for the cost of a bumper replacement on the claim. Attached is the correspondence I sent to the main claims office and the valuation from the dealership. I would like someone from your main claims office to contact me please. Additionally, the first claim rep at Progressive should have provided me with the network shop you have available in Kingwood at the time of this claim. C****** H*** did not; instead, she advised that I have the right to choose any shop in the area. After checking out their corporate website, I chose the local Service King now Crash Champions shop. Their service adviser lies to customers, along with the rest of their staff. I reported to Dustin (the MRR) when I checked my fluids the other day that it appears someone removed the oil cap and ran the engine because oil splatter was everywhere, my engine oil level was extremely low, and I just had my oil changed at Valvoline. That shop is under a cover, and I stay in my vehicle while the oil is being changed and the rest of my fluids topped off. My coolant was also low. My vehicle does not leak anything. Two quarts of oil my, a funnel and a gallon of coolant ran me over $50." I work on my vehicle, so I know its condition. I keep up on the maintenance. I am also a Progressive insured shopping currently for a new policy. I've been a member of progressive since 2007 and the last four times in that time that I've needed them for roadside service well they are horrible! About 4 years ago my son was with a friend who was a heart patient and it took 5 hours! Last year in reno we waited 5 hours in 115 degree heat! Lastly just 2 weeks ago in oregon I waited over 4 hours and they never showed up! Thank goodness I was helped by a stranger! Run fast! I have paid into progressive auto insurance on my trusted Corolla for 5 years. It was stolen from me over 4.5 months ago, recovered by public officials over 3.5 months ago and yet has yet to be returned to me the owner. Working with the progressive agent was a total hassle. The communication was impossible due to the lack of priority I was shown. I am now without my car even today and have consistently contacted the progressive agent who has been unresponsive. I canceled my policy with Progressive when I sold my car and moved out of state. They owed me a refund of over $300 in which they returned to a bank account that I told them had been closed. My catalytic converter was cut out of my car. Progressive would not approve the repair until one of their agents visited the muffler shop to verify the damage. They were extremely slow about sending this agent (he had to go to Oakland from Walnut Creek). Even though the muffler shop had the part within 24 hours, it took Progressive 13 days to send an agent to inspect the damage. I finally threatened to file a complaint with the California Insurance Commission. To their credit (after this threat), I got an immediate response and the repair was approved. Progressive will not go after the insured person on your behalf. They will only request what is owed to them from the other insurer. I have been with them over 10 years and it's always the same thing. Even if you were in a rear end accident. They will get you a rental that's about it. After that you're on your own. They do not speak up for their clients to get what's owed or compensated. The adjusters do the bare minimal ( each time I've had an accident). May as well get on the phone and do your own leg work and contact the other person's insurance yourself after the police report is ready. Totaled the car. Paul was the adjustor. Once they decided to total the car, they gave me 3 days of a rental, even spoke with his supervisor Zach. They would not budge. And they acted like it was so important to take care of the claim and get it closed immediately, but its hard to do when you can't reach them. It has taken numerous calls. They are very slow to respond. Going on 3 weeks and no one has even sent paperwork yet. Disgusting customer service!!!! Progressive is just out for the MONEY. When I first signed on with them, it was because I allowed my bank to act as my agency. It was fine the first couple of years, but then my rates started to creep up. First, they stopped honoring AAA discounts. I then got a red light ticket and my insurance skyrocketed to over $200/mo. I'm not knocking that my premium went up but it seemed way high. I have been an excellent driver for 29 years. I then removed a car from my policy and it only brought my premium down about $7 because I no longer had the two-car discount. When my son started to pursue his drivers licence, I called them to check rates. They quoted $497/mo. That was insane! I asked about good student discounts or any programs to bring down the cost and was told there weren't any. WTF. The last straw was that they sent me a cancellation notice because I had a 15+ year child in my home and didn't fill out some paperwork. What??? When I received that cancellation notice, I immediately called Geico. They were able to give me full coverage with deductibles matching what I had with Progressive for $135/mo. Over $70 less!! I have since gotten my son his car and am paying $247/mo.....not the outrageous almost $500 Progressive was trying to charge! How is this possible?? Progressive is horrible. I was hit by a driver with Progressive insurance and Progressive has been trying to get out of paying for an accident that was obviously the other driver's fault as determined by the police report and my own insurance company. It has been two weeks now and all Progressive will tell me is that they are "Trying to determine if they will provide coverage for the accident." This despite the fact that the other driver proved to me that he was currently insured with Progressive and the traffic accident was a totally routine rear-end collision in heavy traffic. There is no excuse for their rudeness, their refusal to share reasonable information about their policies, or their shameless attempts to avoid liability. If you are considering getting insurance from these people just know that they are not your ally. If given the chance they will leave you high and dry with full liability for any accident you have while you think you are insured by them. The person working on my claim said it would be picked up by the end of the week and that was 2 weeks ago. We are coming up on a month since the wreck. I used there app for roadside assistance it was a nightmare. They never came. First attempt said it would be 3 1/2 hrs. I call them and they said they are in pioneer California. I live in stateline Nv pioneer is 2 1/2 hrs from us. They said they were sending a flatbed truck and will be taking my car to Reno Nv to the Volkswagen dealer ship. I told them I need a jump not a tow beside that my car is a Toyota and my dealership is here in Tahoe. Called my broker and was very upset I tried to get to a person not an automated system. She called for me and arranged for another tow company to come. Got the message saying to call for estimated time for them to be here. Told them who I was and address and they told me roadside told them I was in gardnerville Nevada. And advise me they don't come up to stateline Nv. At that point I quit this started at 11am and was now also 3 pm. They never help me. This isn't the first time roadside has blown it. I'm changing insurance companies and will never recommend Progressive insurance to anybody. read more

Progressive sucks when it comes to customer service. I was with them for over 15 years, and not once was I rewarded for being a loyal customer. I had an excellent driving record, and instead of decreasing my rate they raised it. I decided to call Geico and I got the same insurance policy which I was paying Progressive 149.00 for 80.00 a month. Do yourself a favor and make the move to Geico, they know how to value customers. Terrible company! Back when they primarily insured motorcycles they were good. When I was hit on my bike the 'total' payout was fair. This year, I had a fender-bender. They payed out $950 LESS than the total repairs, and denied any further unseen repairs. Needless to say I have left them. Don't wait for a claim to find out how bad they will screw you. find a currently reputable company... Personally went w/ state farm because I know two people who've had claims and were very happy with the service they received. Pat yourself on the back, that half hour you invested will be keeping actual money in your pockets month after month. Not only will you be wildly over paying for your policy (I just signed up with Metlife and am paying literally HALF the amount for the same coverage), but their customer service is beyond appalling. Progressive increased my monthly premiums after one at fault accident without clearly informing me that they were increasing the premium. My premium increased by $400/year and I only realized that after comparing my past bill with the current bill. When I later cancelled the policy after getting a cheaper and what appears to be better policy at AAA, they charged me a cancellation fee of $50. For many years I've had automatically withdraws from progressive, but for some reason my last payment didn't go thur and it wasn't because of no money in my acct. And the only reason i know it's because i received a letter from the DMV. So i called progressive only to find out that they had cancelled my policy and had send my acct to collections. I asked why hadn't they called to let me know what was going on and was told that they don't call. The lady i talked to was rude and didn't really care. She started that i could continue to pay them or i could pay the collection agency she didn't care about anything else. And I get it it's a company and they want Their money but when something happens by error or mistake they don't care or try to help to keep your business,when i told her i was going to look for another insurance she said bye.
