My husband was transferred from an urgent care nearby to this hospital by ambulance to the ER. I got to the urgent care when they loaded him up and were going to leave to transfer. I ended up in front of the ambulance and they weren't even driving the speed limit... They also took the longest route to get to the emergency entrance... We got there around 2:30pm and just waited and waited and he was feeling like he was going to black out. If it weren't for his mother advocating for someone to come get him an IV, I'm sure he would've just blacked out. 3:15p they took him for blood work and get an IV. He was back there for 8 minutes at 3:23pm. He wasn't shaken up but he was freezing. I asked someone at the front desk if they had socks for him and she was kind enough to get those. That's where the 1 star goes to which is sad because that is literally the bare minimum. 4:20pm a woman is walking around like a hostess asking all patients in the waiting area if they needed anything. She asked if she could get my husband another IV bag since it was now empty. We said yes. 5:07pm - I asked for an update on the wait and the sock lady left so it was someone new who had absolutely no bedside manner. When I walked up she saw me coming and turned to the other woman at the front desk and kept talking until I interjected. She said there's no queue and that we would just have to wait. That they opened up an overflow but people are just getting chairs not even a room. I was like okay...? 5:08pm the hostess woman came around and asked if we needed anything. It felt like Groundhog Day because she had no recollection of saying she would ask to get another IV bag for my husband. We said yes again especially after she said that it would help. Perhaps she was a patient with dementia that was previously a nurse and was wondering around the facility without anyone noticing because none of us were being taken care of anyway. 5:15pm with 10 people in the waiting room now and people who has just walked in were being seen before my husband. We checked MyChart and saw that the bloodwork was done and just looked up the results ourself with AI and google since that's what doctors do nowadays anyway. Nothing looked concerning but he will schedule a visit with his PCP. He was starting to feel like himself again because he was getting pissed about the wait. 5:50pm and someone who just walked in was taken back right away with the same name. I walked over to confirm if they were taking the right person and the nurse verified it was him and not my husband. It wasn't until my husband got up and said a nurse needs to come out and take out his IV because we were leaving for them to all of a sudden have a sense of urgency. Waited 8 min for someone to come out to take everything out for a whole 5 minutes. 5 minutes which would've been plenty of time to go over his bloodwork and then leave. This place is an absolute disaster. There was another patient who walked in and was told that this place has shorter wait times and after he heard how long we had been waiting him and his wife decided to leave as well. It was lucky neither were dying. If you care about your health or loved ones, opt for St Luke's in chesterfield. That place is actually filled with staff who are attentive, efficient, caring, and understand what hospitality truly means. Worth the drive since you'd be waiting in this place anyway... read more

Nurses were very helpful in ER. Checked in multiple times. Concierge asked if I need any water or snack, etc. Nice but Not necessary. Doctor explained everything in an efficient, bug not rushed conversation. read more

I have been to the ER several times, for both myself and my family. Each time we were treated with care, kindness and compassion. My last visit I entered with complaints of stomach ache which was later diagnosed with acute appendicitis and needed surgery asap. I was sedated for the pain and was later moved to a room for surgery the next day. The surgery went well and as expected. I felt so much better. I was able to eat breakfast and ordered. It was nice and I also ordered lunch, a tuna salad sandwich, which I discovered a strand of hair, ugh, not good. I was later released and able to walk out on my own. I did have a small issue with a night nurse, she needed blood around 3am, cool, ok, no problem, however, she wanted to stick me and had the iv in place already, I asked her to please use that, she seemed to be annoyed and said " well, it may not work" I didn't understand why it would not, but thankfully it did, I hate needles!! The room was set up very nice and this was right after the pandemic, and only 2 people could visit for the day, which was a bummer, but still ok and they did seem to be bummed out they had to do this also. Spent hours at this ER in pain only to have a student painfully miss my vein twice on blood draw. Then the nurse training her missed twice. I finally got a competent nurse who was able to draw blood. I never even got to a room, I sat in the hallway on a stretcher the whole time. I finally had a CT scan and the only other service I received was the blood draw (including 5 failed attempts) and the bill was just under $10k before insurance. I would never ever go back to this hospital or ER. The service is terrible, a lot of the nurses are incompetent and they overcharge for everything. Save your time and frustration and go somewhere else. read more

This place is an absolute joke. Brought my mom here Saturday night to the ER and they admitted her. Told us she would have a room the next day but it's currently 7pm MONDAY and she's still laying here in the ER on this ridiculously uncomfortable plastic thin mattress. I'm literally appalled. We were offered a new bed this morning and I have now gone back three times to see about it and they keep saying they will check with someone else. If my mom were in any shape to go somewhere else, I would take her out of here but she is hooked up to IVs and we really just need to have her treated. I had an unexpected and confusing scare come up so I went to the ER - I'm pregnant so I got cared for in L&D. While trying to figure out what was going on with me, the nurses were so sweet and so helpful. I stayed there a lot longer than I expected to and I felt like they truly cared about my comfort and progress. read more

During my visit to Progress West, Nurse Marinette (I can't remember if that's the correct name, but she's not hard to miss) referred to me as "nuts" after learning I had been transferred from a psychiatric facility. That language was crude, stigmatizing, and unacceptable from a licensed medical professional. In addition, I observed dismissive behavior toward other patients during my time there. Patients in vulnerable situations deserve patience and professionalism, not condescension. I also heard staff speaking in low tones about patients within earshot, which contributed to an environment that did not feel respectful or therapeutic. Mental health status does not justify degrading language. This experience fell below the standard of care I expected. read more

This emergency department is a disaster. I have been using this hospital for almost 20 years. Not only is the staff not friendly any longer, but the efficiency is horrible. You need to improve a great deal for me to come back. I will be going to St. Lukes in Chesterfield from now on, although I live 5 minutes from you. I cannot believe how ridiculous they have become. One of my doctors is located in the medical building at Progress West and uses the hospital for all needs including surgery. That is how I ended up here for a recent surgery. This review is based solely on my surgery experience. Prior to surgery I received 2 calls the week of and both were friendly and informative - very helpful and very patient employees. Upon arrival I followed the direction to the pre-op area. I checked in which was very easy and the guest with me received a guest tag to accompany me. I was very quickly taken to a pre-op room where the nurse explained how we would prep and that the Dr would then come in. After we prepped my guest was allowed to come back until they were ready for me to go to surgery. Surgery was completed as expected, no outliers and my guests were notified. I woke up from anesthesia back in my pre-op room. This wasn't my favorite part... I was groggy and nauseous and it was so loud and busy all around it was a bit overwhelming. Once I was stable they moved me to an overnight room. The room was large and very quiet with the door pulled up. The nurses were all informative and had great bed side manner. They assisted as needed but also encouraged me to do things that I could myself. They showed me how to call for help if it was needed and explained exactly what I should expect overnight. Overall as far as a surgery experience goes, this was amazing. I was always in the loop, someone was there anytime I needed help but outside of that they didn't bother me every hour. I was actually able to rest. The only downside to my experience here was the food is TERRIBLE. I wasn't on a restricted diet so I could order anything. I did. It was all terrible. Even the toast was cold and like chewy... Hopefully you won't need to eat much here. That said I didn't really eat much food which concerned the nurse so she did advise that they had a fridge with food for patients too and she brought me a turkey sandwich and a pudding which was pretty good. I was able to eat it so yay. However, Hubby ate in the cafeteria one morning - he got a breakfast burrito and said it was good. So the cafeteria and patient food may be different. read more

I came to the hospital today to get some routine test done. The registration person Theresa found that Unfortunately, the doctor's orders did not come through. To make a long story short, Theresa was absolutely amazing so kind and helped to do whatever she could to make sure that we got what we needed so I could get my test done. When I tell you she went above and beyond. I can't even tell you how much I appreciated everything that she did. This level of customer care is what all hospital should strive for. I was take to progress west hospital by ambulance for a kidney stone passing in severe pain.when I arrived they put me in a wheel chair the ambulance driver told the nurse mike what he had given me for pain . Nurse mike told the ambulance driver I wouldn't have been so generous.no compasssion from Mike.5 hours later I finally was seen. The dr. Was very good and other nurses. Mike needs to be fired or turn up his compassion dial from zero to at least 5 out of 10. I wouldn't send my dog to progress west. mother was in for a fractured hip. Cannot recommend Dr. McCallister enough! Hes amazing! everyone on 3rd floor was great with the exception of RN Ulu. completely rude and unfriendly. she should not be in this field. devoid of personality and terrible attitude toward family, patients. No bedside manner whatsoever. Dr. Chang the floor Dr. the same. Useless. Never stayed for more than 2 minutes max. Acted aloof and uncaring. Three visits in two weeks with kidney issues. Staff and doctors are top notch. Attentive, friendly, professional. With Barnes/Wash-U affiliation you pretty much get the best. My Urologist is a Wash-U doc. Why only 3 stars. Long wait times, like, really long! They seem to have enough staff. Everyone seems to be working efficiently. Maybe they are understaffed? I've tried the other hospital's in our area over the years, they are pretty much all the same. I prefer the Barnes/Wash-U group. I wouldn't come here if I could go to an urgent care. read more

This hospital is unreal I used to come here years ago and never had an issue . I came here today to wait 4 hours before being seen which I get they were busy I came because I have bad neck pain and I could not hardy move my head left or right . The nurse practitioner looked me over and said that I was at one of their other hospitals earlier this month and yes I did because I had a UT and lower back pain so they sent me home with some meds the meds did not work at all and I was in pain the whole time I went back for the same thing and again the same pills that did not work on me but they did not care Now that I'm at this hospital in bad pain and she starts to tell me that if I come in again they will flag me , I was like WTF ? That made me mad and hurt cause I'm there because I'm hurting and she said she will give me the same meds the other hospital did the ones that I told her don't work ! I see a psychiatrist who gives me meds with no issues because I have severe depression and panic attacks, plus other issues I have a therapist I talk to weekly and I don't abuse those drugs so how dare her say she will flag me !! I'm getting all my medical records from these two hospitals and see a lawyer causes it is not right they don't care about managing your pain they just want you out and they gave me a shot and told me to leave while the shot did not have time to even work a little . If your smart stay away from this place never saw a real doctor never even asked if I had any questions. I'm also calling the head of the hospital on Monday morning. I'm just really upset cause if this turns into something more serious they are not going to like me ! read more

May 2022 I've been in numerous hospital ER's, and this was the worst. I heard nurses laugh at an elderly man who had an accident. No empathy, just jokes at his expense. If I could hear them, I'm sure he could. The staff wondered around without any specific task, we saw a nurse drag a potty chair from one end of the room to the other. They openly discussed patients and acted as if it was a bother to have to address any one's needs. We waited 3 hours to be treated...3 HOURS!!! When I made a comment about the time, the nurse gave me a sarcastic reply. Somebody needs to get that department under control. Right now it is a joke. This hospital is in a class of its own. Some people laugh at the fact that PW tweets their ER wait times, but it's actually really valuable. When I had a kidney stone last year (ouch, seriously) I checked their twitter handle and saw that they had a 15 minute wait time, and guess where I went? Yup, I drove 45 minutes out there because you're not going to be able to beat a 15 minute wait time anywhere in this city. They were prompt, so helpful, and I was out of there within two hours. Unreal. And I was fully loaded with pain medicine! The nurses and doctors were so nice, considerate, and thorough, and it was much appreciated. My grandma actually spent the last week of her life at PW, and while it was obviously a devastating experience, the staff could not have been better. They were compassionate, obviously cared a lot for her as a patient, and held true to their word by always following through with our questions and requests. They even roll this snack cart around the hallways for families because sometimes it's not so easy to get down to the cafeteria to eat. It's little details that make this hospital so wonderful... and I kind of like that it's way out on the edge of O'Fallon because not many people utilize it which makes it that much better for those who do! If you're anywhere close and need to go to a hospital, choose this one. Trust me. If you have a kidney stone just request a shot of pain medicine in your butt. Trust me on that too. read more

Had to take my wife to the E. D. and after checking in we were in a room within 10 minutes. The nurse was waiting and within 10 minutes of getting into the room the xray was there taking their pics. A couple of minutes laster the doctor came in and checked her out. He left to check the xrays and was back within 15 minutes and we were ready to leave within 30 minutes after that. Even though the E. D. was crowded with Covid patients we were treated quickly and with compassion. read more

If I could give progress west negative stars I would give negative 5 acrthe board. This past experience is the worst I have ever encountered from a medical facility. Incompetent across all levels of service and very dismissive. If I had to go back again with 100% recovery or go to another hospital with a 50/50 chance I would take the 50/50 chance for sure. I can't even begin to say how disturbing the ER visit was. Do your homework as far as reviews of the hospital and the ER Doctors on staff. The hospital is staffed through the Schumacher group. The ER Doctor I had I will say after I left from being seen I looked him up and all the reviews of him were negative and spot on. How he can still practice is beyond me. Shame on all involved and progress west for being dismissive on total lack of treatment. So, what happened was I had my blood sugar spike to 900+ and was obviously feeling bad with a bad headache as well. Went to the ER and was put in a room and give some insulin. This had happened before and they usually start a drip to bring the sugars down but not here. The Doctor I am talking about my wife gave all the information needed and he had given the nurse instructions to give me a shot. Well during the first encounter he was rude, didn't show any concern and basically blamed me for this issue. My wife left to go home for a few minutes and the good Dr. Came back in and started asking me ridiculous questions. I had my eyes closed because of a bad headache and he said" you ate not taking this seriously, you can't even look at me" and walked our. Ne t thing I know the nurse came in a said I was discharged. She even said with my numbers so high yet that she was surprised that I was being discharged and not admitted. Went home with still high blood sugar of 500. After this ordeal we wrote a letter to the person in charge of this hospital. We received a letter back that they are looking into it. A few weeks later we get a letter not from the president of the hospital but the head nurse. Not sure why she sent a follow up letter,it didn't concern her to begin with. The letter stated that she looked into the issue and the grievance has been closed. Apparently the people in charge are to busy to address any problems with the staff that are supposed to have the patients well being as a priority. Going through and following up with legal consultants about this issue. I really suggest going anywhere but Progress west. read more

The room had blood on the floor! the nurse/doctor whatever she was that I had was just the most bland and unfriendly person. older lady, lots of plastic surgery, bleach blond hair...she clearly is there for a paycheck. I had to have a CT and no one explained to me what was going to happen and the contrast made my entire body burn...would've been nice if someone gave some info on that. Quick service with no one there, but poor medical skills. Spent a total of 15 minutes in ER and less than 2 minutes with doctor. Did get a prescription to help, but only enough for 3 days, knowing my follow up appt was 7 days out. Then the After Visit Summary suggested follow up with a Pediatric doctor in Wentzville ( for a 70 year old)?? Waste of my time, but at least it was quick. Note - other friends have had better outcomes here, but mine was of little value. Dr Sutterer was no help and provided no diagnostic services or even attempted to do so. read more

So I'm asking the lady who draws the blood of this is normal to wait 5-6 hours. She immediately got defensive and took her gloves off and ended up asking me to leave. I asked her why I was being kicked out and if there was anyone else who could do the work, she said they were short staffed so no. So I ended up leaving In stomach crunching pain. Night shift is wonderful and very caring. However day shift is rude and inconsiderate. Come in by ambulance and was left unattended in the hallway until my mother showed up with my insurance cards then I was treated and admitted for two days. Still don't believe it was worth since me vomit up blood and having a high white bleed count is all so to stress even know I'm only 18. The only reason for 3 star is because of the night shift staff. I was there as my wife is sick and hadn't eaten in ten days. They took us to a small room in the back of the ER and after a couple of hours she came back Covid positive and I was asked to leave or gown up, I said I would leave and come back after I ate but when I came back and asked about gowning up, a rude nirse stated, "He keeps coming out here after we told him to leave". Said it with an attitude and like I wasn't even in the room. A nicer nurse then asked me to leave and so I did. When the finally rolled out my wife, they didn't tell me anything about test results or what to do next. Apparently explaining it to my wife who was barely conscious was enough. Very frustrating, and now I am home with my wife who still isn't able to eat and who I will likely take back to a different ER. read more

As we arrived in the ER around 12:30am, there was four other people sitting in the waiting room. We sat in the waiting room for 4 hours and 15 minutes before we were called. An older gentleman waited a few hours and then left after not being seen. I understand being understaffed but this is the worst I've seen progress west be understaffed, if that's truly why the wait times are hours long. Currently in another room, waiting to be seen by the doctor. Dr was not gentle with their touch when handling a possible fractured hand. read more

If I could rate the ER,it would be minus 1. I had a 5 hour wait for chest pain with covid. The ER Dr was very unfriendly and abrupt for a total of a 5 minute conversation. I did not receive any information on my vitals, EKG or x-ray. Definitely would not recommend using this hospital. read more

Postpartum nurses at this hospital is exceptional!! Would highly recommend this hospital if you're searching for a place to deliver your baby. I came in at 1:30 am. Due to a miscommunication nothing happened with me till about 3 am. It's now 6:45 and I have left due to not being able to access any treatment with them. They have exhausted every single person they have on a Friday night one 1 cardiac patient as well as every resource in their empty waiting room. Now I know why it's empty, it's because no one can access care at their hospital. I suspect I may have pneumonia. I guess I need to go to St. Louis where they are smart enough not to invest ALL their resources and staff for HOURS on one cardiac patient with no available people on call. Especially on a weekend. This so called hospital is a disappointment. You would get better care at an animal hospital then here. read more

Disgusting lack of any reasonable level of Triage or time management. We came to this facility, Progress West with a primary care physician's appointment. Dr. Macintosh simply took vitals and wheeled us to the Emergency room. Who were not prepared or informed of our medical emergency. So let's begin the process all over again. We have three hours into the "Lack of Progress West" void. Thank goodness we prepared and scheduled! Why bother? This is apathy personified, who believes that this is a good hospital?
