This place is an absolute joke. Brought my mom here Saturday night to the ER and they admitted her. Told us she would have a room the next day but it's currently 7pm MONDAY and she's still laying here in the ER on this ridiculously uncomfortable plastic thin mattress. I'm literally appalled. We were offered a new bed this morning and I have now gone back three times to see about it and they keep saying they will check with someone else. If my mom were in any shape to go somewhere else, I would take her out of here but she is hooked up to IVs and we really just need to have her treated. During my visit to Progress West, Nurse Marinette (I can't remember if that's the correct name, but she's not hard to miss) referred to me as "nuts" after learning I had been transferred from a psychiatric facility. That language was crude, stigmatizing, and unacceptable from a licensed medical professional. In addition, I observed dismissive behavior toward other patients during my time there. Patients in vulnerable situations deserve patience and professionalism, not condescension. I also heard staff speaking in low tones about patients within earshot, which contributed to an environment that did not feel respectful or therapeutic. Mental health status does not justify degrading language. This experience fell below the standard of care I expected. read more

I came to the hospital today to get some routine test done. The registration person Theresa found that Unfortunately, the doctor's orders did not come through. To make a long story short, Theresa was absolutely amazing so kind and helped to do whatever she could to make sure that we got what we needed so I could get my test done. When I tell you she went above and beyond. I can't even tell you how much I appreciated everything that she did. This level of customer care is what all hospital should strive for. From the efficient processing in the ER to all the great nurses(Natalie, Mandy, Sarah, and Jennifer ) whose dedication to their patients made my stay there comfortable and successful! One of my doctors is located in the medical building at Progress West and uses the hospital for all needs including surgery. That is how I ended up here for a recent surgery. This review is based solely on my surgery experience. Prior to surgery I received 2 calls the week of and both were friendly and informative - very helpful and very patient employees. Upon arrival I followed the direction to the pre-op area. I checked in which was very easy and the guest with me received a guest tag to accompany me. I was very quickly taken to a pre-op room where the nurse explained how we would prep and that the Dr would then come in. After we prepped my guest was allowed to come back until they were ready for me to go to surgery. Surgery was completed as expected, no outliers and my guests were notified. I woke up from anesthesia back in my pre-op room. This wasn't my favorite part... I was groggy and nauseous and it was so loud and busy all around it was a bit overwhelming. Once I was stable they moved me to an overnight room. The room was large and very quiet with the door pulled up. The nurses were all informative and had great bed side manner. They assisted as needed but also encouraged me to do things that I could myself. They showed me how to call for help if it was needed and explained exactly what I should expect overnight. Overall as far as a surgery experience goes, this was amazing. I was always in the loop, someone was there anytime I needed help but outside of that they didn't bother me every hour. I was actually able to rest. The only downside to my experience here was the food is TERRIBLE. I wasn't on a restricted diet so I could order anything. I did. It was all terrible. Even the toast was cold and like chewy... Hopefully you won't need to eat much here. That said I didn't really eat much food which concerned the nurse so she did advise that they had a fridge with food for patients too and she brought me a turkey sandwich and a pudding which was pretty good. I was able to eat it so yay. However, Hubby ate in the cafeteria one morning - he got a breakfast burrito and said it was good. So the cafeteria and patient food may be different. read more

I was take to progress west hospital by ambulance for a kidney stone passing in severe pain.when I arrived they put me in a wheel chair the ambulance driver told the nurse mike what he had given me for pain . Nurse mike told the ambulance driver I wouldn't have been so generous.no compasssion from Mike.5 hours later I finally was seen. The dr. Was very good and other nurses. Mike needs to be fired or turn up his compassion dial from zero to at least 5 out of 10. I wouldn't send my dog to progress west. Three visits in two weeks with kidney issues. Staff and doctors are top notch. Attentive, friendly, professional. With Barnes/Wash-U affiliation you pretty much get the best. My Urologist is a Wash-U doc. Why only 3 stars. Long wait times, like, really long! They seem to have enough staff. Everyone seems to be working efficiently. Maybe they are understaffed? I've tried the other hospital's in our area over the years, they are pretty much all the same. I prefer the Barnes/Wash-U group. I wouldn't come here if I could go to an urgent care. read more

This hospital is unreal I used to come here years ago and never had an issue . I came here today to wait 4 hours before being seen which I get they were busy I came because I have bad neck pain and I could not hardy move my head left or right . The nurse practitioner looked me over and said that I was at one of their other hospitals earlier this month and yes I did because I had a UT and lower back pain so they sent me home with some meds the meds did not work at all and I was in pain the whole time I went back for the same thing and again the same pills that did not work on me but they did not care Now that I'm at this hospital in bad pain and she starts to tell me that if I come in again they will flag me , I was like WTF ? That made me mad and hurt cause I'm there because I'm hurting and she said she will give me the same meds the other hospital did the ones that I told her don't work ! I see a psychiatrist who gives me meds with no issues because I have severe depression and panic attacks, plus other issues I have a therapist I talk to weekly and I don't abuse those drugs so how dare her say she will flag me !! I'm getting all my medical records from these two hospitals and see a lawyer causes it is not right they don't care about managing your pain they just want you out and they gave me a shot and told me to leave while the shot did not have time to even work a little . If your smart stay away from this place never saw a real doctor never even asked if I had any questions. I'm also calling the head of the hospital on Monday morning. I'm just really upset cause if this turns into something more serious they are not going to like me ! read more

May 2022 I've been in numerous hospital ER's, and this was the worst. I heard nurses laugh at an elderly man who had an accident. No empathy, just jokes at his expense. If I could hear them, I'm sure he could. The staff wondered around without any specific task, we saw a nurse drag a potty chair from one end of the room to the other. They openly discussed patients and acted as if it was a bother to have to address any one's needs. We waited 3 hours to be treated...3 HOURS!!! When I made a comment about the time, the nurse gave me a sarcastic reply. Somebody needs to get that department under control. Right now it is a joke. If I could give progress west negative stars I would give negative 5 acrthe board. This past experience is the worst I have ever encountered from a medical facility. Incompetent across all levels of service and very dismissive. If I had to go back again with 100% recovery or go to another hospital with a 50/50 chance I would take the 50/50 chance for sure. I can't even begin to say how disturbing the ER visit was. Do your homework as far as reviews of the hospital and the ER Doctors on staff. The hospital is staffed through the Schumacher group. The ER Doctor I had I will say after I left from being seen I looked him up and all the reviews of him were negative and spot on. How he can still practice is beyond me. Shame on all involved and progress west for being dismissive on total lack of treatment. So, what happened was I had my blood sugar spike to 900+ and was obviously feeling bad with a bad headache as well. Went to the ER and was put in a room and give some insulin. This had happened before and they usually start a drip to bring the sugars down but not here. The Doctor I am talking about my wife gave all the information needed and he had given the nurse instructions to give me a shot. Well during the first encounter he was rude, didn't show any concern and basically blamed me for this issue. My wife left to go home for a few minutes and the good Dr. Came back in and started asking me ridiculous questions. I had my eyes closed because of a bad headache and he said" you ate not taking this seriously, you can't even look at me" and walked our. Ne t thing I know the nurse came in a said I was discharged. She even said with my numbers so high yet that she was surprised that I was being discharged and not admitted. Went home with still high blood sugar of 500. After this ordeal we wrote a letter to the person in charge of this hospital. We received a letter back that they are looking into it. A few weeks later we get a letter not from the president of the hospital but the head nurse. Not sure why she sent a follow up letter,it didn't concern her to begin with. The letter stated that she looked into the issue and the grievance has been closed. Apparently the people in charge are to busy to address any problems with the staff that are supposed to have the patients well being as a priority. Going through and following up with legal consultants about this issue. I really suggest going anywhere but Progress west. read more

Had to take my wife to the E. D. and after checking in we were in a room within 10 minutes. The nurse was waiting and within 10 minutes of getting into the room the xray was there taking their pics. A couple of minutes laster the doctor came in and checked her out. He left to check the xrays and was back within 15 minutes and we were ready to leave within 30 minutes after that. Even though the E. D. was crowded with Covid patients we were treated quickly and with compassion. read more

This hospital is in a class of its own. Some people laugh at the fact that PW tweets their ER wait times, but it's actually really valuable. When I had a kidney stone last year (ouch, seriously) I checked their twitter handle and saw that they had a 15 minute wait time, and guess where I went? Yup, I drove 45 minutes out there because you're not going to be able to beat a 15 minute wait time anywhere in this city. They were prompt, so helpful, and I was out of there within two hours. Unreal. And I was fully loaded with pain medicine! The nurses and doctors were so nice, considerate, and thorough, and it was much appreciated. My grandma actually spent the last week of her life at PW, and while it was obviously a devastating experience, the staff could not have been better. They were compassionate, obviously cared a lot for her as a patient, and held true to their word by always following through with our questions and requests. They even roll this snack cart around the hallways for families because sometimes it's not so easy to get down to the cafeteria to eat. It's little details that make this hospital so wonderful... and I kind of like that it's way out on the edge of O'Fallon because not many people utilize it which makes it that much better for those who do! If you're anywhere close and need to go to a hospital, choose this one. Trust me. If you have a kidney stone just request a shot of pain medicine in your butt. Trust me on that too. read more

The room had blood on the floor! the nurse/doctor whatever she was that I had was just the most bland and unfriendly person. older lady, lots of plastic surgery, bleach blond hair...she clearly is there for a paycheck. Quick service with no one there, but poor medical skills. Spent a total of 15 minutes in ER and less than 2 minutes with doctor. Did get a prescription to help, but only enough for 3 days, knowing my follow up appt was 7 days out. Then the After Visit Summary suggested follow up with a Pediatric doctor in Wentzville ( for a 70 year old)?? Waste of my time, but at least it was quick. Note - other friends have had better outcomes here, but mine was of little value. Dr Sutterer was no help and provided no diagnostic services or even attempted to do so. read more

Night shift is wonderful and very caring. However day shift is rude and inconsiderate. Come in by ambulance and was left unattended in the hallway until my mother showed up with my insurance cards then I was treated and admitted for two days. Still don't believe it was worth since me vomit up blood and having a high white bleed count is all so to stress even know I'm only 18. The only reason for 3 star is because of the night shift staff. An older gentleman waited a few hours and then left after not being seen. I understand being understaffed but this is the worst I've seen progress west be understaffed, if that's truly why the wait times are hours long. Postpartum nurses at this hospital is exceptional!! Would highly recommend this hospital if you're searching for a place to deliver your baby. I was there as my wife is sick and hadn't eaten in ten days. They took us to a small room in the back of the ER and after a couple of hours she came back Covid positive and I was asked to leave or gown up, I said I would leave and come back after I ate but when I came back and asked about gowning up, a rude nirse stated, "He keeps coming out here after we told him to leave". Said it with an attitude and like I wasn't even in the room. A nicer nurse then asked me to leave and so I did. When the finally rolled out my wife, they didn't tell me anything about test results or what to do next. Apparently explaining it to my wife who was barely conscious was enough. Very frustrating, and now I am home with my wife who still isn't able to eat and who I will likely take back to a different ER. read more

I came in at 1:30 am. Due to a miscommunication nothing happened with me till about 3 am. It's now 6:45 and I have left due to not being able to access any treatment with them. They have exhausted every single person they have on a Friday night one 1 cardiac patient as well as every resource in their empty waiting room. Now I know why it's empty, it's because no one can access care at their hospital. I suspect I may have pneumonia. I guess I need to go to St. Louis where they are smart enough not to invest ALL their resources and staff for HOURS on one cardiac patient with no available people on call. Especially on a weekend. My dad was admitted here 7/20. The ER and ICU staff saved his life. I can't even begin to describe the gratitude I have for everyone that works here. They were so warm, friendly, understanding & compassionate towards my whole family. We are from Michigan, & my dad was working in Wentzville when he needed to be admitted. Flying in from Michigan & not being close to home during my dad's stay was extremely difficult. Not knowing Day to day if he was going to survive one more day was the worst possible thing to ever experience. The staff at this hospital made everything better & made us feel better. When they took her blood, they left the tourniquet on for 6 to 8 minutes; later her arm was completely purple and all bruised (bruising did not go away for a week and a half), there was a defined line were the tourniquet was on. The doctor said there was a medical necessity to take an ambulance to Children's; they never monitored or even look at her once in the ambulance(she was in her carseat the whole time) but we are stuck with the $1200 ambulance bill. I had a health emergency in the middle of a snowstorm, so I had no choice but to go to the closest hospital, which was Progress West. When I arrived at 3am with my face swollen to twice its size on one side, the teenager at the intake radioed back that I had a "toothache". Since no one else was there, I was taken right back. The doctor spotted me and followed me into the room. The ER care was very good, but then they admitted me. Worst. Thing. EVER!!! Some of the nurses were nice (Moe, for example, was wonderful!),but there weren't enough of them. At one point, I pressed the call button so I could be disconnected from all the wires they had on me and use the restroom. It took a full two hours before a nurse came in, and then it was just to check on me. I'd pushed that button multiple times to get up and go. Ironically, that was the only time I'd used the call button. The hospitalist was really the biggest problem I had. He would not LISTEN to me. He spent less than 30 seconds in the room so he could discharge me. I mentioned chest pains. He said it was fine and sent me home. The snowstorm had been a really bad one and all of my kids ended up being out of school for several more days. Since the hospitalist told me I was fine, I ignored the chest pains and dizziness I was still having not wanting to bother anyone and since all the kids were home, I didn't have a sitter. The symptoms I was having continued, though, so I went to a walk-in clinic the minute they went back to school three days later. That clinic took one look and said to go straight to the ER. Progress West was the closest one, and by this point, things were going dark and dizzy so I went there. Once again, the ER got me back quickly and the ER doctors and nurses were very good. They figured out that my heart rate was very low and admitted me to the telemetry unit. Somehow I ended up with the same hospitalist who really wanted nothing to do with me...which was fine. I didn't trust him after last time anyway. Throughout the entire weekend I was there, I think I saw the man for less than 45 seconds. The chest pains and dizziness were crazy. I'd learned my lesson the previous stay about pushing the call button, so I didn't bother with that at all. What would be the point? My husband and friends who came to visit commented repeatedly and on separate occasions from one another that there was almost no one on the unit, except maybe one person sitting at the desk. At one point, an elderly woman came into my room thinking it was her room and was very confused. My husband escorted her out to the nurses, who apologized, but no one seemed to know who she belonged to for a few minutes. Testing had been ordered, but couldn't be done until Monday because they didn't have the staff to do it. They did it first thing on Monday morning, and the hospitalist had already ordered me discharged before I even got back from the testing. This man listened to NOTHING I was telling him! The cardiologists looked at the telemetry strips and were able to see that something was clearly wrong (Um, I kind of knew that since I was passing out every time I tried to stand up, was completely dizzy, and had zero energy for anything). They finally figured out what was wrong and suggested I could look up the diagnosis online. They left the room never to be seen again and offering nothing to relieve my symptoms. They did offer codeine for the chest pains and told nurses I could be discharged. I explained that I had my car there, but my husband was working. I was told it was okay to drive home. Um, you just gave me Codeine and you KNOW I'm so dizzy that someone has been walking with me to keep me from tipping over, but you're cool with me driving?!?! Awesome. I was heading out when a friend arrived and met me to drive me home. For most of my visit, I had the charge nurse, Kathy. She was wonderful! I really liked her and appreciated how gentle she was. Selma, the tech who did vitals, was also very kind and gentle. Beyond that, I don't have much positive to say at all. Next time, I think I would rather run the risk of dying on the way to the next hospital. read more

I just returned from a two day stay at Progress West. For the most part, the nurses and doctors were very nice. However, Amanda who was working on the 3rd floor tonight 1/7/21 was horrific. I had my procedure shortly after one o'clock and at 5:45 I was managed to get discharged. She was rude, had an attitude and he sarcasm was over the top. At first I thought maybe I was just being grumpy but when I got in the car with my wife, I asked her, "Tell me the truth. Was it me or her?" My wife said that the other nurses were much nicer than Amanda. I'll be making some phone calls to the higher-ups at this hospital to complain about her. read more

I will never, ever return to this ER. They don't ever (ok five hours later) return to check on you (I wasn't hooked up on monitor, they would never know if I was alive). Wait times are horrible. in my opinion, they act like they are inept (drs, secretaries and nurses) and absolutely no compassion. I was told there is only one adult dr. on at all times. If you think your visit will be quick, it will not. I had a very bad experience. If you have a choice, pick a different ER. On top of it all, it's not very clean. They had a universal linen cart in my room that they could access from the hallway. This seems unsanitary not to mention other patients stinky linen stinking up MY room! Germs anyone? Gross. I'm writing this from the standpoint of a visitor. My sister had major back surgery Thursday. I went last early-evening to visit. Upon entry, I walked to the reception desk and asked for her room. The lovely receptionist gave me the room number and how to get there. Very clear instructions. When I got to the floor, all the signs were so clear and specific, I had no trouble finding the room. EVERY room in this hospital is a private room . . . how delightful! I know we've gone a long way from the "wards" to the double rooms, but really, private rooms are essential. In the room there were two visitor chairs and a couch that makes into a bed for overnight stays. Who thought of that??!! So perfect! It was so quiet and so clean and everything was so unobtrusive!! What a great place to convalesce. During the time I was there, two clinical people came in . . . one to get vitals, the other was her nurse, Marty. Marty was overhearing our conversation, and joined in with some interesting info and banter. What a pleasant fellow, and he performed all his tasks with minimal intrusion. Also at this time, my sister got a call from the dining room asking what her order was for dinner. She hadn't placed her order yet, and they were inquiring. HOLY COW! Evidently at Progress West, you order your meal (whichever meal it would be time for) by just calling when you're ready to eat. And if you haven't ordered, they call to remind you!! And they know if you have dietary restrictions. My sister said she asked for something for lunch, and was told she couldn't have it, because of doctors' orders. What a great idea!! I'd like to have that EVERY time I eat. When some guests had departed, my sister called to put in her dinner order, and my brother-in-law also got on the phone to order his dinner. As a patient, you get one complimentary tray for a family member every day. How considerate!! Such simple things!! They go a long way! When I left, all the signs were on the wall to direct me appropriately to get out of the place. Navigation is so important. And I didn't have to walk 17 miles to get to my car, or pay for parking! read more
