Be warned if you are considering GVT Contracting /Trevor for your project…read more Last fall, I contacted Trevor for a deck renovating job. I made it clear, when we first met and then in emails later, that the job had to be done before the grapes over the upper structure of the deck starting to grow again in spring, because the vines had to be lowered to the ground to be out of the way, which could be done only when the plant was dormant. Trevor promised that was no problem, and that as soon as I paid a 35% deposit, he would give me a starting date. I paid the deposit Nov.4 last year, but, up till early May, I never got a definite starting date! I did get a few tentative ones, first, mid-March, then, end of March, early April, and end of April. the problem was he never honoured his words, never showed up on those dates. At the end of April, as the window of time for the job was closing, I warned him I would have to cancel the project, if he could not start the work in two weeks. He replied, " we will be there in two weeks, for sure." Nothing happened in the following two weeks. Now six months after he took my deposit, he failed even just to give me a genuine starting date, and the new grape shoots were already almost two feet long, I had no choice but to cancel the job. That was, unfortunately, not the end of my disappointment and frustration. When I cancelled the job, Trevor told me the deposit was non-refundable. After I reasoned with him, he asked for a 30-day timeline to pay it back, which I readily granted. When I contacted him after 30 days, he would say something like 'next week", " when I am back in town", " will let accounting know", or some other excuses. Lately, he simply would not answer my calls or emails. I can not believe any person with any sense of integrity and respect for his livelihood can be so misleading, unreliable, and unaccountable I am going to use all available legal means to get my deposit back. I hope what I have been going through will be a warning to the company's future potential clients.
