came here for a wrestling event and was not disappointed in the slightest. great place to watch…read moresome wrestling go down, perfect size and the atmosphere is extremely intimate. was fortunate to be sitting in the second row for the event that I went to, the only negative was that by the time I got to the section I was sitting in a standard folding chair and I thought I was going to be on the floor...lol lots of parking at this location even though its shared parking with the other 5 plazas included. not sure about transit options, but this academy is super close to the highway which makes it really accessible and easy to get to. cant wait to come back #TWOSCOOPS!

I went to check out this place with a girl friend as we both already do taekwondo (both of us are…read moreblack belts), so we wanted to add something new to our training. We went in and were greeted by a female (forgot her name), and she took us on a tour of the facilities, as well explained the programs offered. Needless to say we were both very disappointed, with the facility and overall focus. The facility for the female side was disappointing. The changeroom was dirty and not well ventilated, so it had a moldy smell. Huge turn off from coming here for long workouts. (Keeping in mind, our dojo is 1/3 the size and never smells that bad). From looking around they seem to put a lot more into the male side of the facility then females. Not sure why but personally it turned me off from wanting to workout here. As for the programs yes they offer a lot but course is a little bit of everything. There is no class with direct focus on one thing. If I wanted to focus on self defence aspect I would have to wait for that part to rotate through again in the program to learn more. Example given was a 1 hour class will consist of cardio, strength training and than 1 form martial arts. For in a 3 day a week program the area you would want to focus on would happen once a week, not ever class. When learning taekwondo the focus on that form helped me to train better. If I were to learn it once a week while learning 2 other forms of martial arts my form and focus wouldn't be as strong. Keep that in mind if your looking to gear your mind and body in a specific direction. If you really don't care and just want to sweat with no real goal in mind than yes this is the place for you.

If you are looking for traditional martial arts instruction in Brampton this is the place to go…read more The system is solid and the instructors are excellent. I started training here in 1990. I was looking for a traditional Karate dojo. Of course at the time I had no idea of what I was really even looking for. The Brampton AMA delivered everything I was looking for. After over 20 years of training I consider this place to be my second home and my second family. I cannot say enough good things about it. The core system is Japanese Goju Ryu Karate Do. Goju Ryu is a style of Karate that blends hard and soft aspects. I find this makes the system very adaptable to different body types, ages and fighting styles. They have an excellent youth program and a solid core of teenagers training there. But you can start training there at any age and physical condition. I started in my 20's, but I've seen people start training in their 60's. Another aspect of Goju Ryu is that there is a relatively small syllabus of katas (forms or patterns), compared to some other styles. This means there are plenty of opportunities to "cross-train" in complementary martial arts. I've had the opportunity to train in many martial arts including: various styles of karate, judo, jiu jitsu, boxing, tai chi, bagwa, traditional Okinawan weapons, knife and sword. The focus of the training is self-defence. So you get real martial arts training. But if you would like to do tournaments that is definitely available as well. One of things I really like is that the instructors are martial arts students as well. Everyone is actively training and learning. Once again, I simply cannot say enough good things about this dojo.
