We arrived early for our Sunday morning 9:30 a.m. class. There's Green P-street parking in front of the studio, and it's free until 1 p.m. Since I had never been before, the receptionist took my photo for their record, signed us in, pointed out where the washroom, change room, and showers were, and provided wraps and gloves for my first class. She mentioned that the wraps and gloves were available for purchase. I should mention that outside shoes are not allowed inside. There's a spot by the entrance for everyone to leave their shoes. Studio K-O shares a space with Studio Lagree. Studio K-O is closer to the entrance and down a narrow corridor. There are cubbies for people to leave their stuff in while in class. The studio has five hanging sandbags. As a class of six, we rotated between them while one person was with the instructor. Adam (our instructor) was easygoing, personable, and got us working really hard. For me, the warmup was the toughest part of the class. Near the end of class, we partnered up on the sandbags and for a core workout.

I still frequent this studio because that's exactly what makes the class totally worth it! All instructors are very competent and their energy is infectious (take a class with Sonely and you'll know!). They are invested in your workout to correct form and technique. Workouts change every visit and I appreciate the surprise factor. The space is a little tight in the room and classes a little expensive - neither of which have prevented me from making the trek. Consistency here will definitely lead to results. I've tried many boxing gyms but this one "fits like a glove."

To my surprise, I instantly felt a sense of belonging. There is an overwhelming feeling of family as soon as you walk in. I would recommend this gym to anyone looking for more than just a bunch of weights. 5 STARS

Very happy to call this gym my new home!!…read more I have been boxing for 7 years with the same coach, 5 different gyms. I've been in and out of all so many boxing/muay thai/BJJ/MMA gyms all over the city that I know the qualities of a great gym when I see one. United opened up last month. Location is super convenient, directly on Bloor street, quick 5 min walk from both Ossington and Dufferin stations. Open from 6am-10pm so hours are great. Currently United has classes for boxing, muay thai, HIIT interval training and yoga. Their BJJ classes will start soon. They so far have a great cast of instructors and the owner and front desk staff are all super friendly, helpful and non-pretentious. They have a boxing ring, heavy bags, speed bag, lots of training equipment (weights at the back, kettlebells, tires, ropes and all the other good stuff) Change rooms and washrooms are in the basement and are spacious and CLEAN. Membership rates are super reasonable. Right now I've noticed a good mix of new trainees and more experienced martial artists, so it's totally suitable for everyone. They are still tweaking/making improvements to both the gym and the program and I'm excited about the future of this place because I know it's going to be awesome. Their facebook page has lots of details and training schedule. https://www.facebook.com/pages/United-Athletics/669488406467844?sk=timeline

What sets this place apart is its friendly environment and students who respect each other and help each other get better, its administration Colleen such a caring individual and finally the owner Lisa who is an amazing enthusiast of the sport and a good judge but I think my review would be incomplete if I did not talk about what makes this place great, above all else, the greatness of a MMA academy is because of its students but also because of its instructors. Matador MMA is blessed to have an elite instructor cohort which has an active presence in competitive MMA spheres; starting with Professor Pavel who was the silver medalist for Ontario Open Jiu Jitsu championships in May 2026, followed by Coach Naz who won the Mayhem Fight Promotions Boxing Championship also in May 2026 followed up by Coach Anastasia who won her ONE championship fight in Thailand in July 2026. Prof. Dane, Coach Xavier and Coach Alex train the young Muay Thai fighters who go and win new competitions and belt levels, Coach Alex gives his all to little ones learning the techniques and giving them confidence to be better day in and day out... and finally the one and only Coach Ivan who trains the kids and adults of this club, a man of monumental stature and one whose leadership in the octagon and on the mats keeps churning out warriors. For those parents whose kids train at Matador MMA could not be more thankful to have a cohort of teachers who give their all to give life skills to our children, for that we are ever thankful to them. Matador is the place if you want yourself and/or your kids excelling in life as the discipline learnt here goes a long way in their daily lives and education. I am so thankful to the Matador community and wish them much more success in years to come God-willing.

Definitely a great place for a beginner who is looking to shed some lbs and is bored of the traditional gym, but definitely not a fight gym. Or if it is a fight gym they need to re evaluate their levels for classes. Very little technique but more about warm up, and cheesey burn out at the end. If the 90 min class maybe 30 min was actual pad work and it was beginner stuff. 3 punch combo with push kick. Would have got a better work out on a heavy bag at a local YMCA.

Cons: - You really do need to buy gloves, even if it's a trial class because the equipment (spare gloves) smells really awful. And no, it's not the smell of sweat, it's a scent that's rather indescribable. - The claim for TKMT is that no one is judgemental however the instructor said I looked horrible. I don't think she meant it to be offensive, but I was embarrassed since the whole Level 1 class turned their heads to look at me. I think the word was just a negative connotation is all. I suggest you bring a friend for the first trial for a comfortable experience.

Do Not enter a long-term contract with these predators!…read more I paid a one-year membership and started training in the gym last Sep. Unfortunately, I got a bad knee injury during the training just less than a month out. I had to rest for weeks before trying again, and just realized that I could not continue. Hoping that I could recover soon, I did not cancel my membership as they have this "save time" allowing members to carry over the missing training time and extend after the contract expiration date. This was a HUGE mistake. In Mar 2023, I knew that I had to move out of Toronto in May due to a job change, and started contacting them for a refund by email and phone. I contacted them in the next month, none of my emails was replied, phone calls were rarely answered. In frustration, I went to the facility in person. To my dismay, the admin person accused me of showing up without an appointment, and their manager Joshua show no compassion after knowing my situation. Despite having trained for only five weeks in total, they refused to refund me for the entire duration, claiming that the "save time" policy didn't apply to refunds. They only agreed to refund me for the months after I left Toronto, which was four months since May. I have trained in multiple MMA gyms before, and I can confidently say that this is the worst one I've experienced. The only saving grace was the wonderful coaches, but they cannot compensate for the gym's predatory practices. I am utterly disappointed and feel cheated. I sincerely hope others do not make the same mistake I did and steer clear of this gym.
