United Boxing Club - Exterior

United Boxing Club

Very happy to call this gym my new home!!…read more I have been boxing for 7 years with the same coach, 5 different gyms. I've been in and out of all so many boxing/muay thai/BJJ/MMA gyms all over the city that I know the qualities of a great gym when I see one. United opened up last month. Location is super convenient, directly on Bloor street, quick 5 min walk from both Ossington and Dufferin stations. Open from 6am-10pm so hours are great. Currently United has classes for boxing, muay thai, HIIT interval training and yoga. Their BJJ classes will start soon. They so far have a great cast of instructors and the owner and front desk staff are all super friendly, helpful and non-pretentious. They have a boxing ring, heavy bags, speed bag, lots of training equipment (weights at the back, kettlebells, tires, ropes and all the other good stuff) Change rooms and washrooms are in the basement and are spacious and CLEAN. Membership rates are super reasonable. Right now I've noticed a good mix of new trainees and more experienced martial artists, so it's totally suitable for everyone. They are still tweaking/making improvements to both the gym and the program and I'm excited about the future of this place because I know it's going to be awesome. Their facebook page has lots of details and training schedule. https://www.facebook.com/pages/United-Athletics/669488406467844?sk=timeline

I was introduced to Sully's Boxing Club through a friend who'd been training there for over a year…read more I was serious in achieving my fitness goals and this was the place for me. There are multiple formats to the club depending on your purpose. If you or your child wish to train here, I would say to look beyond the appearance of the small club and see that discipline and respect are valued and egos are trumped at the door. I see that the young kids here respect their trainer, work hard and want to be there. If you are like me and curious about trying something new, there is a 7 pm class on weekdays. The class is drill based, high intensity for beginners and follows up with some bag work. A workout, at the beginning, that really kicked my butt. Within 2 months of training 2-3 times a week my endurance improved to the point where I could run without stopping, I could keep up, I dropped a lot of weight and had a six pack again. I achieved my fitness goals by working hard at Sully's. There is also a 5:30 pm weekday class that is busier and more intense. I also recommend this class to people once they are a member of the gym I have since returned back to this club because I know it works. There are a lot of new faces that come and try the club through multiple discount websites. I would say to them if they are thinking about trying this place, to try it. The trainer Tony, has a format for the 7 pm class for new people. If you are serious about working hard to reach your goals and you can commit to coming back, no matter how sore or how hard your butt got kicked the last time, then give it a chance. Lastly, I'll give another reason for the 5 stars - is the environment. Everyone here is friendly and if you come often you start to see everyone is supporting you if you show you are serious and work hard.

I have been training with Ringfit for about a year and I really can't say enough good things about…read morethis team. Over the relatively short period of time I have been working with them, my boxing skills have improved exponentially which has really helped me as a muay thai fighter. The coaches (Stephan, Carlos, Dmitri and Richie) are all amazing world-class coaches that will help you reach your fitness/athletic aspirations, whether you're an athlete looking to fine tune your boxing technique or you're just looking to lose some weight while doing something fun! The sessions are customized based on your goals and athletic ability/fitness level so you are sure to get a great work out every time. Personally, my favourite thing about Ringfit is that (if you are serious about becoming a boxer) they are very strict about technique. Either you do it correctly or you don't do it at all ;) It has helped improve my footwork and boxing in the ring and they help me get even better after every session. The coaches themselves are great people who are very easy to work with and are really invested in your progress. These guys are former boxing champs so you know you're learning from the best!! Be warned - their workouts are tough! But I promise you will enjoy yourself and if you stick it out, they will help you reach your goals! Highly recommend Ringfit. If you live by the area, definitely give them a try!

I recently started training one-on-one with Stephan and am absolutely obsessed with our sessions…read more Stephan focuses on building up proper technique, strength and cardio which has already improved how I feel after just a few weeks. Stephan's workout will challenge you physically and mentally but he's also well tuned into how much you can handle. He also provides tons of helpful advice on how to maintain your training program outside of the gym. I was reluctant to sign up for personal training because I was worried about being able to fit the training sessions into a busy schedule but Stephan is flexible and easy to book with. The gym has also taken many COVID precautions so I feel completely comfortable visiting in-person. If you're even considering it, book a training session and you won't be disappointed!

UNDRCARD Boxing Studio

UNDRCARD Boxing Studio

I've recently started visiting various downtown fitness studios after discovering ClassPass. I…read morevisited Undrcard a couple weeks ago for one of their themed nights. The class I signed up for was the Rihanna vs Drake group boxing class. As soon as you enter, the people at the front desk ask you to sign in and pick your bag. The bags are categorized based on how good of a view you can get of the instructor from your spot (useful!). Once you choose your bag, you take your outdoor shoes off along the main entrance, and head inside. This studio is a lot larger than I expected considering most downtown fitness studios are quite small. There's a boxing ring in the middle of the studio set up for pad classes and across from it is the main fitness room for the group boxing classes. Along the back side wall there are lockers available to use for free, with key locks that come with them as well. If you keep walking towards the back, you'll hit the change rooms. The women's was well stocked with bathroom amenities like dry shampoo and spray deodorant, in case you wanted to use it. The class itself was very high energy. The instructor led us through an intense warm up and then straight into different combos on the bag. At times she would crank up the volume of the music and make the lights flash in the room, when she wanted us to go harder or give it our absolute most. There were plenty of squats incorporated into the combos as well and a good mix of different boxing moves. In these classes there are no official water breaks so its up to us to go grab water whenever we feel the need to. At the end of the class, we did 10 mins of ab work on the floor. It was a little weird because the bags were hanging over us and there was barely any room for people to lie down with their legs stretched. I feel like this fitness room could be a bit bigger so people feel comfortable punching. At times the bag behind me was swinging and hit me on the back when we were in the middle of the workout. After the workout, since there was another group starting the next class, it was chaos at the lockers with people trying to get in and people trying to leave. I think this happens everywhere though and it can't really be avoided. I would come back to Undrcard to try another themed night, but other than that they don't have much variety in their classes and every class is labelled "group boxing" so its more or less the same. It would be nice if they had classes targeted to arms/shoulders, another for booty/legs etc.
