With regards to my Life Mark review, Panther Sports Medicine is where I went after I left Life…read moreMark. It was so refreshing to visit a physiotherapist who actually adjusted the routine to each individual person. Panther Sports Medicine has many locations across the city, but we were lucky enough to attend the clinic with the owner of it all, Scott. He was such a pleasure to be around too. He would talk to me while poking and prodding, and make jokes to keep me comfortable. I could tell that he really knew what he was doing. Perhaps it was because of all the letters and titles after his name! I was glad that after leaving the friendly environment of Life Mark, Panther showed me the same enthusiasm whenever I visited. The girls at the front desk were always happy to see me and remembered me by name, first and last. They actually let me take home and keep a book I was reading while having physio. I completed my physio before I could finish the book, and they said no one else had touched the book in years, so I could have it. It was fantastic. What cuties! The quality of service at Panther was exceptional. They first did an initial assessment to see where my problems areas were and went from there. I still got the heating pad (and a little nap) every time I went in, but they did so much more to my body. I had acupuncture and intramuscular stimulation, as well as full use of an exceptionally equipped gym. Panther provided regular reports to my insurance company, so they could keep their files up-to-date on my recovery as well. Not only was the treatment phenomenal, but so were the people! Panther Sports Medicine should be a top choice for physical analysis and treatment. The physiotherapists really know what they're doing, and prove that to you when they help you make a quick and full recovery.

If he should move to another clinic, I would immediately drive to that clinic for treatment. I have been going to Darcy for the last 5 years. I sustained a serious injury in a motor vehicle accident and though I have chronic pain from it, regular physio helps keep me moving and allows me to do things that I otherwise would have a hard time doing - specifically my love of running LONG distances. When I told Darcy that I wanted to run a marathon, he kept me going and provided me with feedback on what types of training would be best for my body. He's excellent with all types of patients and is realistic about what will work best given your particular situation. He IS a Canucks fan though and he does give me a hard time about the Flames. Sometimes I let him get away with the trash talk, let's be honest, the Flames make it hard to defend them on occasion. I should also mention that the rest of the staff are excellent as well. The other individuals that assist throughout the course of my treatment are efficient and pleasant. 17/30

They are located within the kinesiology area at the University of Calgary. It was easy to find and parking (pay) is right out front. It was easy to schedule with them as well, I was able to get in right away and there was little wait once I arrived. It's good to note that a lot of sports services offered within U of C are available to the public and if you have a health care plan, much of it may be covered. The cost is reasonable if you do have to pay out of pocket.

He swore in the appointment several times (kept saying NSS- and then asking 'do you know what that means??? It means No Shit Sherlock') , and was extremely condescending. I am a 200lb female, and a lot of weight is carried in my chest. He told me if I 'care about my son' I would take on the "gargantuan task" (his exact words) of losing at least 100 pounds. I asked how he suggests I do that since I have next to zero mobility in my hips and have had knee issues my whole life and can't walk long distances let alone do physical exercises bc my hips and knees seize up. (I currently have two torn meniscus he wouldn't even look at or address). He was short, completely condescending and one of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Giving advice like this can be SO damaging without including the proper support for weight loss. And to tell someone to lose half their body weight is beyond disgusting and shameful. Please ask for a referral to literally ANYONE else but this man. He should absolutely retire, or go update his education. The real kicker is- they didn't even weigh me at the clinic. He just looked at me and threw out a number of losing 100 pounds. I wear size 14 clothes. I am not an excessively large person, and would love to lose a little bit of weight, but i have also been comfortable in my own skin until I met this useless doctor. His assistant was a total piece of work too. Just as condescending and really thinks he (perhaps they?) are God's gift to sports medicine. I now have major trauma MONTHS later from this appointment, and the number this doctor did to my mental health. I called to speak to the office manager as well and left a few voicemails- never heard back. Clearly they do not care about their patients. It's really too bad because before I met this idiot doctor, I had great experiences at this place. But will never go back after this garbage. Dr Mohtadi- please do Calgary a favour and retire, or take some courses to learn compassion and professional bedside manors. You are going to cause serious eating disorders and more health issues in people with such abhorrent advice.

I didn't have to wait long at all to meet my physiotherapist. I attended 6 sessions, and each time was instructed what to do, and was then left alone to complete the task while my therapist tended to other patients. He was a very nice young man, and this would be my only negative, but a big one. I feel someone should be at your side making sure you are doing the exercises correctly. After all, you are trying to recover from either an injury or an operation. I didn't feel a one on one connection at all. This I found disappointing. I felt like more personal attention was being paid to the clients who had insurance that covered longer term therapy. However, I found Cam, his assistant extremely helpful, full of all kinds of suggestions and he would check in on me during exercises sometimes to make sure I was doing them correctly. Pulling the principles from Dr. MacDonald's website it states their promises to their patrons are:…read more"Results, Clarity and Collaboration". For me I definitely received those promises but I doubt it was in any way the form they intended. The Result: don't come back to the clinic. The Clarity: clearly if you don't like something about the appointment Dr. MacDonald's ego will be hurt. And finally, Collaboration: non-existent. Dr. MacDonald's mission, "We exist to help active, health-conscious individuals achieve their highest levels of being, by providing a highly specialized, research-based, collaborative approach to patient care." The research was so good that after not being certain if my scaphoid was broken he attempted to 'correct' the position of a bone that wasn't (in his words) "medically dislocated" prior to having the results. Needless to say, the professionalism from Dr. Macdonald was insufficient. His level of petulance and unprofessionalism make me wonder how he retains any patients at all. An overview: * He showed up 30 minutes late for his first appointment of the day * He tried to 'correct' a 'non-medically' dislocated bone when a different bone in my hand was fractured * He had me sign a waiver after he had completed the work; I take full responsibility for signing this but having me sign it afterwards reaffirms his lack of professionalism * He charged $334 (the cost of a 45 minute appointment) for a 15 minute assessment. This was refunded due to the great customer service of Stephanie. * He called and informed me all my future appointments were cancelled * He failed to refer me to an orthopaedic surgeon and instead told me to go to urgent care I went to see Dr. Dale MacDonald after having a cast removed for what was a suspected scaphoid fracture. Out of respect, showing up on time, or informing the others you are running late has been a principle that has dictated my entire adult life. I understand everyone is human and issues come up; I was, however, Dr. MacDonald's first appointment of the day. Arriving late for the first client showed me that Dr. MacDonald lacks a certain level of professionalism you would expect. He pulled up my x-rays and explained that based on what he was seeing he would like to send me for bone scan to eliminate the possibility of a misdiagnosis. He then asked where the pain was to which he claimed I was an "anatomical marvel" for picking the 'lunate'. According to Dr. MacDonald, after showing him where the pain was most prevalent he said that my lunate was dislocated. "Not medically dislocated but it is in the wrong spot." He then asked me to lean back, which I did. He 'attempted to put the bone back in place.' My scaphoid was fractured - Imagine the pain. I don't have a Doctorate but when I hear statements like: "it isn't medically dislocated but it's in the wrong spot." RED FLAG. I turned to peer-reviewed medical articles and trusted sources such as the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The dislocation of the lunate can easily be seen in an x-ray. He then says, "I need you to sign this, it effectively says you agree to letting me work on you, which I have already done." This was a total error in my judgement. I never should have signed that document, but felt without signing it was asking for unnecessary confrontation. My total appointment with Dr. MacDonald lasted 15 minutes. I was then charged $334 for my appointment. If I was to break down the appointment based on my actual appointment after the tardiness of Dr. MacDonald it would have been $111.33. It's not a financial issue and never was: if it were I wouldn't be writing this review and I would be on my way with the $334 refund and that would be the end of this ordeal. The principles involved are the issue. I wouldn't want to encroach on other appointments but to have the audacity to think a 15 minute appointment should be treated the same as a complete assessment strikes me as laughable. My bone scan results came back as a fractured scaphoid. Based on that I assumed a referral would be made to an orthopaedic surgeon. Instead something shocking occurred. Dr. MacDonald asked if I was unhappy with the first visit to which I said yes. He then said, "and I believe we have refunded your money," which they had. He then proceeded to tell me that he "has taken the liberty to cancel all future appointments with [his] clinic." I guess that means I have been fired as a client of his for having issues with the first appointment. After firing me as a client, and neglecting to refer me to a specialist, he advised I should go to urgent care to get a cast put back on. I thanked him for advising to have a bone scan done and he hung up. I encourage anyone who has had similar issues with Dr. MacDonald or anyone considering seeing Dr. MacDonald to reach out to me. If this review discourages one person from having a similar experience it was all worth it for me! Tim

However, it needs to be monitored, and Dr. Swain is the specialist that I work with. I have always known that he is a very good doctor. However, I did a presentation in November, 2010 when Dr. Swain was appointed the Cal Wenzel Family Foundation Chair in Hepatology, and I really learned how incredible this man`s credentials are. My experience of him as a doctor, is someone who listens, asks questions, is compassionate, knowledgable and is always honest. Over the years, as alternative health options have been cropping up, I have asked him all kinds of questions regarding my treatment, and he has handled my requests with patience and honesty. Further, in the rare occassion where I have had trouble, he has been accessible. He truly does care about the work that he does, and his patients. He always makes time. In addition to taking on patients, Dr. Swain also holds other responsibilities in his field. I have done my best to paraphrase some of his credentials for this review, and I have also included a link to his full credentials as well. - Acting Head for the Division of Gastroenterology, University of Calgary (U of C) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) - Professor of Medicine, Hepatologist and Clinician-Scientist at the U of C. - He has won many awards for teaching and research, including the U of C Watanabe Distinguished Achievement Award for Overall Excellence. - He is currently the Cal Wenzel Family Foundation Chair in Hepatology, and the Head of the Translational Research Core for the Snyder Institute, at the U of C Source: http://www.departmentofmedicine.com/documents/announcements/swain_head_announcement.pdf When I learned in November, 2010 that he is also holds so many other titles and roles within the medical community, I am just further astounded and impressed that he actually has the time to provide the level of care that he does. I feel extremely fortunate. For any patients who are researching Dr. Swain, be advised that if you have been placed under his care, you are a dealing with the cream of the crop.
