Flint Hills Roofing - Trailer advertising Malarkey products

    Flint Hills Roofing

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Flint Hills roofing company owned and operated by…read moreTyler Sims. Over a span of several months--from December 2024 through February 2025 - they failed to show up four separate times without any notification, leaving me scrambling to contact them each time asking what was going on. Zero proactive communication. Additionally, despite advertising and invoicing me for premium Malarkey shingles that are exclusive from a dealer and top of the line, they ended up using basic Landmark shingles that are available at any Lowe's store. I have pictures of the trailer with shingles packages inside. Moreover, the crew arrived unprepared and without the necessary supplies, forcing me to leave work to spend an extra $267 cash on materials such as felt paper, nails, vents, and silicone from Lowe's that I picked up and brought to the crew. I had no idea what I was getting as I have no experience with roofing supplies. To top it all off, the owner, Tyler Sims, completely ignored my calls and texts on the day of the job as well as calls from the crew leader. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable and honest roofing service. There is additional work listed on my invoice that has not been completed, such as fixing the water damage on my kitchen ceiling, repairing the downspout of the gutter, etc. I have screenshots of my invoice listing this work that was to be done. As a single woman, I trusted Tyler Sims and Flint Hills Roofing to be professional and honest, but instead, I was repeatedly disregarded and taken advantage of. From the no-shows to the bait-and-switch on materials, and even making me purchase supplies that should have been provided, this experience was frustrating and costly. The lack of communication and accountability from Tyler Sims and his employee, Jessica, speaks volumes. I would strongly caution anyone against hiring Tyler Sims with Flint Hills Roofing. On top of everything, when I tried to address these issues 2 days before the crew did the work, Tyler was rude to me over text but also asked me for grace - very contradictory way to engage with his customer. I have screenshots of the texts we exchanged. Instead of taking responsibility, he now ignores my calls and messages, leaving me with extra costs, subpar work and scrambling to find another contractor to finish the job. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, save yourself the headache and find another reputable roofing company.

My experience with this company is so bad I'm not even sure where to start. I hired them to…read morereplace my roof in December, 2022. That initial process went fairly smoothly and within a few weeks they came out and replaced the roof. While speaking with the owner of the company, I was told they also do other work such as painting and siding, roofs, trim, etc. (Later I did some searching and haven't been able to find any proof this company is licensed to do any work in Sedgwick County.) After some negotiations I decided to hire them to also paint my house, replace some trim and siding, replace guttering and remove and replace my deck. I don't think Google will give me enough room to list all of the things that went wrong with this contractor, but I will try to list the high-level issues. Communication Probably the number one complaint with this company is their lack of communication. I worked mostly with Jessica and I sent her several hundred texts over the last two years and she replies maybe about once a month. When I try to call she never answers the phone. I've only heard from the owner of the company a few times and he is usually ill-mannered and rude. I have two years' worth of texts I'd be happy to show people to back up this review. Needless to say, their customer service is horrible and I would never recommend this company to anyone. I'm honestly surprised they are still in business with how bad it is. Craftsmanship Guttering - It was installed incorrectly and the company had to come back to the house to fix the many leaks that were detected during the first heavy rainfall. Roofing - After the first heavy rainfall water damage occurred on our dining room ceiling. The company came out and had to patch the roof to stop the leak. The roofing company has refused to fix the dining room ceiling water damage without charging me more money. Paint and Trim -The only issue I have with the paint is how the deck was stained, which leads me to the next issue. Deck -Work started and after a few weeks it stalled. There were many months where no work was done at all and they wouldn't return any of my messages. The company was going to put the new wood posts directly into the ground (out of code) until I printed off the city code and showed them how they needed to be put on concrete footings. Luckily prior to any work being completed, I asked them to pull a permit with the city for the deck. Finally after about a year, the deck was installed and they had the paint guy come and stain the deck and put on some kind of clearcoat sealant. Within a few months the clearcoat sealant turned white and the whole deck looked horrible. After about a month, they had the paint guy come back out and stain the deck. After one year, I got a notification from the city stating no inspections were ever completed on the deck. There was supposed to be an inspection after they poured the concrete footings and a final inspection when work was completed. Flint Hills Roofing missed many meetings with the inspector. The inspector determined that the deck failed compliance with the city code on many items. I spent the next 6 months trying to get FHR to correct the items listed in the inspection. I continued to text with Jessica and finally last month she replied and stated that they could fix my deck but I would have to pay $1,500. It is absolutely absurd that they built the deck incorrectly and it failed inspection and now they want me to pay them more money to fix it. Basically, from start to finish the deck project has taken nearly two years and it still isn't resolved. I tried to make this short and it still ended up being too long. I didn't even go into the details of how poorly I was treated and lied to over and over. Early on they said they had a military and veteran's discount which I was happy to hear. But if this is any indication how they feel about veterans I would strongly urge folks to find another company. Reach out if you'd like additional details.
