I started going to Crunch Fitness Northridge for strength training with a personal trainer roughly…read moretwo years after sustaining an ischemic stroke. The first time I entered Crunch, Stephen/Steven at the front desk smiled and greeted me; he made me feel welcome. Bishoy, a former manager was also awesome! He asked whether I cared about the age or gender of the personal trainer. I didn't. Given my existing condition, he strongly recommended Ryan Ainsworth. Ryan is exemplary! He has the eye of a physical therapist and is arguably as good as one - if not better! He is kind and nurturing. Whenever I'd whine about the difficulty of an exercise, he'd always encourage me while ensuring that I'd perform that exercise with fidelity. Ryan possesses the sublime ability to immediately adjust specific exercises to meet my personal needs. Ryan's nuanced adjustments are sublime! Current and former managers Bishoy, Johnny (at the Norwalk location), Armando, CJ, and Charlie always exhibited genuine kindness combined with outstanding customer service during times I had to postpone training for extended period of time due to illness, cataract surgeries, and fractured toes as a result of being clumsy at home. Ryan Ainsworth has given me the grace to accept myself, be resilient, and prevail with this "new normal" for which I am eternally grateful!!!

After years of having a membership (since 2009 starting back in NYC) I finally stopped renewing…read more Quality has gone down big time in both equipment and members. Treadmills are way overdue to be replaced or significantly refurbished. Stair masters are only great if they're working and these days there's always 2-4 broken. Members are always on their phones hogging machines doom scrolling while they are not active. This has become pervasive and it's really depressing being around that kind of energy. Texting while driving and at the gym is very selfish, inconsiderate and unsafe- do that at home when you're on the couch. Bathrooms are always trashed, I feel terrible that people are so rude and mindless almost forgetting that a person has to clean up their junky mess. It's disgusting. Manager who is there, a young guy, no idea what his name is as he is super not helpful and really not personable at all. Sad to say I feel there are people below the manger who are more personable and helpful who should totally be considered being promoted to manager. Speaker in the zoomba room has been broken and unpleasant for over two years now, still hasn't been repaired or replaced. This is so bad that instructors wheel in their own personal speaker to conduct the class sometimes or they'll use the speaker at a very low volume. No matter how low the membership cost was for me at the highest tier, I think I was paying $14/ month, it just wasn't worth it. Parking is for sure getting worse as it became more of a regular occurrence to park further closer to Honeybaked ham. I don't mind getting in the extra steps as I enjoy walking, but as a female at night... I digress. Crunch used to be a place I looked forward to going to, but now it's just way too crowded and stinky. Three stars because despite the quality of equipment and experience going down, it is still a 24 hour location with wonderful staff (excluding mangers), with a decent variety of equipment and the equipment which does work is ok. Crunch locations that are incredible: all of the New Jersey locations, NYC, Simi Valley, and Santa Clarita.

This review is long overdue but I owe it to the incredible team at Crunch to praise them. I have…read morebeen very inconsistent with working out in my life but decided it was time to get back into it. I was a member of this Crunch gym about 5 years ago and it was just another gym. I didn't enjoy going and there was definitely nothing keeping me there and I stopped going. I decided earlier this year to give Crunch gym another chance because it's close to my home. I nervously walked in and the manager Trent was at the front. He is such a personable guy. After talking with me a few minutes about a personal training package I thought "why not?". I've never been able to achieve my goals on my own so I figured this was either gonna work or it wasn't. He set me up to meet with Ryan, the manager of the personal training dept. Ryan asked a lot of questions that you'd expect from someone you are about to embark on a personal training routine with. I could tell that Ryan really cared about me and my goals and wanted me to feel comfortable in the gym environment. We talked about the training plan that he would be putting in place for me. He's such a likeable guy and made me feel good about my decision to hire a trainer. Ryan is an amazing asset to this gym! Ryan set me up with trainer Richard, saying he'd be a good fit to reach my goals. Richard is incredible. He is made me feel totally at ease the minute I met him. Since I didn't work out that often, I was nervous that I'd be embarrassed about not knowing how to work the equipment or follow his instructions. But I never felt awkward or weird and Richard is a true professional. So good at his job yet kinda makes you feel like you're talking with a good friend. Probably the biggest surprise is the change in how I interact at the gym. I would usually come in, head down, headphones in, not make eye contact with anybody, do my workout and go home. But the people at Crunch are really wonderful! The front desk always says hello and I'm always greeted by name by Trent, Ryan and Richard. There's at least one, if not all 3, there most of the time. And the rest of the staff is great too! It sounds completely corny but they really make me feel welcome and like they are happy to see me. They talk to me like they've known me awhile, and even sometimes ask my opinion and feedback if I happen to be nearby and they are talking with another client. My only complaints (and reason for only 4 stars) is that several members seem to not know how to respectfully treat the weights and equipment, and sometimes drop the weights heavily to the ground, while others do not sanitize the equipment after they use it. They could also use some updated/ newer equipment.

Shortly after I was going through medical issues so stopped going and let my account go delinquent. I received numerous emails from Patty GM from crunch. Which I have attached as proof. Anyways called and spoke to Trent (it wasn't easy getting ahold of him and he's apparently the only one that can help) explained my situation also mentioned the numerous emails I've received. He said those were automated and I still had to cover the past due although I haven't been going and my membership has been on pause. Again I explained the emails say to make a one time month payment and everything would be waived. Seems like he's not going to honor it. He was quick to get me off the phone although I was email him the screenshots. This specific gym has always been a pain. It's dirty and everything is always broken. HONOR THE AUTOMATED EMAILS OR CHANGE THEM cause this can easily turn into a lawsuit. Now I have to wait for him to call me back to which by the sounds of it he wasn't going to honor the email. Dishonest gym and management. ***Also the comment from Scarlet below is an automated message. There's zero way to private message them or the business. And Trent responded. I requested to cancel my membership and he didn't want to. Stated he'd rule this up to the district manager. DONT SIGN UP HERE

You hear about things like this happening but it's crazy to see! Update! Aaron let me know that they charged me from back in April when I initially tried to cancel and refuted payment. Note that their own front desk employee advised me to refute the charges because the company would more than likely continue to charge me indefinitely. Aaron also added a cute little threat that they should also charge me for next month since we're supposed to give 30 days notice to cancel!! I guess all those emails and voicemails I left in April requesting to cancel don't count?

I joined Crunch specifically for the Downtown Long Beach location about a month ago, which was…read moreperfect for me because I could walk there in the evenings (I don't have access to my car at night). Now that location is closing August 31, I'm being forced to join a different gym. When I tried to cancel, I was told I'd have to pay $90 (annual fee + next month's dues) even though the closure or cancelation isn't my choice. It took multiple attempts to speak with a manager, and I was told that since I signed up online, there was nothing they could do. On top of that, there's no corporate phone or email, everything is handled at the local level, which makes resolving issues frustrating. So now I'm $90 down for a gym I can't use, and I'll have to pay more to join a new one. The gym itself is okay but nothing special. If it's your only option, it's usable, but if you have a choice, it's not worth the price, the cancellation policies, or the customer service headache.
