The diving trips they run out of HK are a little more expensive than some dive operators, but they are well organised and don't tend to be too over subscribed. Word of warning, when you dive as a fun diver (especially if you have booked space onto their boat via another dive operator), you will be given a lower priority than their students, and this can be a bit unpleasant, especially if you are tired, cold and wet after diving and have to rest on the wet dive deck, rather than in the boat lounge, which is for their guests only. Where they do excel, is their retail shop. They have an excellent range of products, from lots of different brands. The prices are reasonable, but make sure you ask for a discount, as they are often willing to give quite generously. in fact, the last time I went in there to buy a bag, the shop staff gave me the price, then the discount price in the same breath. I didn't even have to ask for it. If you buy more than HKD2000 of kit, you can join their membership which gives and additional discount (5% on my last visit) The shop itself is a bit cluttered, so you may have to have a good dig around or ask for help, but the staff are knowledgeable, most of whom are divers anyway. They will also bend over backwards to answer the most difficult questions, including searching online and calling the manufacturer - I only asked them about stopwatches! Definitely a good place to shop, but just be wary of their local dive trips. You may have a better experience than me...

The Splash Club also runs dive trips from the beaches around Clear Water Bay, or boats from Sai Kung, for those wanting to try fun diving in HK waters. What really puts Splash a cut above the rest is the expert tuition in English, as well as a number of other languages. Many of the dive schools in HK rely on Chinese instructors teaching in English. At Splash their staff instructors are primarily ex-pat native English speakers, which makes them the ideal place for those needing to learn in English. Splash are also incredibly flexible with tuition schedules and are able to accommodate most student needs, whether it is weekdays, weekends, evenings. The facilities are first rate, with pool sessions taking place in what most consider the best diving pool in Hong Kong, or at least the best hot showers in HK! Open water sessions are either conducted from a shared boat (with other dive schools), or from a private Splash boat on club days. Try and get on a boat on a club day as it is much less crowded (and the instructors always have a stash of post dive beers on board). When booking with Splash, best ask for Darren, the owner and course director. Darren is an expert diver with years and years of experience in the industry. Darren also hand picks and teaches his own instructors, so you know you will be getting the very best in tuition from all of his staff. You should also have a chat to Darren about equipment too, as he is often able to discount name brands, especially if you are already a student with Splash. Diving can be scary enough without having to wrestle your way through language issues, a million of other students or more experienced divers jostling for space in classroom or on a boat. Do yourself a favour and go to Splash for small class sizes, flexible schedules, and stress free diving fun.

They are indeed big, I believe they own three boats, one overnight boat out two day boats. They also have a shop in TST, but judging by the setup of the shop, you would have thought they are a mom and pop store. Diving express is definitely known for their local dive tours and overseas by travel. Their local dive tours depart from Sai Kung, and every Sunday you can see the volume of customer throughput they have, simply by looking at the number of divers they jam onto each boat. There are many other dive operators in Hong Kong, but you may be surprised to find that most of them book their boat diving on the Diving Express boats. If you are interested in diving in Hong Kong, you are better off making a beeline directly to diving express, as you will invariably end up on one of their boats anyway. They also have a well stocked shop in TST. Like their boats, it is a bit of a cramped space with piles of diving equipment stack up on top of each other, but they do hold many products and most of the brands. The staff are knowledgeable (ask for Denny), most being divers themselves, and are willing to give advice as required. They also have a reasonable selection of diving camera accessories, which can sometimes be hard to find in Hong Kong. The dive kit is reasonably priced, and what they don't have can be ordered. As with many of these specialist dive operators, whether it be retail or travel, you are better off doing some research beforehand, or going with a buddy. Diving express unfortunately suffers from the sausage factory approach, which means as a novice diver you may be somewhat intimidated by crowded boats and shop. Take care, and dive safe.

The Island is small so you can walk from one side to the other. If you do plan to spend the day then I suggest getting to Yung Shue Wan, Lamma Island: Take a ferry from Central Pier No. 4 to Yung Shue Wan. It takes about 30 minutes. Then leaving from Sok Kwu Wan, Lamma Island: Take a ferry from Sok Kwu Wan to Central or Aberdeen. Stop 1: Yung Shue Wan the main residential area on Lamma Island, with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Stop 2: Hung Shing Yeh Beach (Around a 20-minute walk from Yung Shue Wan Pier) white sandy beach, you can enjoy the sun, sand and water. Stop 3: Tin Hau Temple Stop 4: Sok Kwu Wan This tiny village is still very much focused on fishing. The seafood restaurants along the bay are great!

From Pier 4 at Central, there are two ferries to take to/from Lamma Island's two main piers: Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, with the former being more popular and running more frequently. Most visitors hike the Family Walk, which is a ~4 km long trail (~2 hours slow-paced walking with stopping for breaks and photos), from one pier to the other. The power plant at Yung Shue Wan is an eyesore, but there are a few other lookout spots on Lamma Island that provide stunning views of the fishing villages, beaches, and sparkling waters. I recommend Sai Kung over Lamma Island for a half day trip, but Lamma Island is still a good option for those who prefer mild hiking (ie: not too long or difficult in elevation).

It's a good activity for schools and companies groups alike - very healthy and suitable for all ages. (They cater to smaller groups as well so you can go with your friends or even by yourself if you want.) We stopped at Leung Shuen Wan (糧船灣) for a seafood lunch - some of my friends raved about the freshness of the seafood here but I thought it was only ok. There was a small beach at Leung Shuen Wan where you can go swimming (no lifeguard).

It was not until a friend of mine invited me on an excursion did I witness them. It took more than a bit of persuading to get me up and out of bed early enough to enjoy a day out in Sai Kung but I hadn't been out of my cave in a while. We arrived in Sai Kung just after eleven in the morning, stuffed ourselves with a quick Subway sandwich then hurried along to the pier. Luckily for me my friend is a local Hong Konger meaning we didn't get ripped off! Now, from here there are a couple options. You can just as easily organize a group outing on a catered boat as rent a private little sampan, of course its more expensive the fewer wallets you have around but at the time it was just the two of us. We negotiated a reasonably fair price (I think) and hopped onto the rickety boat. The captain took as around the eight islands slowly enough for us to marvel at the volcanic rock structures, which were quite amazing even for a non-nerd. The coolest of the islands were off limits for humans but we managed to land on a smaller one and explore the beach and rocks from a closer perspective. Nothing to write home about. I think the captain took us there because it was closest to the pier, the other seven islands were about a hundred times more interesting. On the way back we found out that the Geo Park was not just the islands but included the coast opposite them, too. With enough time and motivation I'd go back and test some of the hiking trails in the area as I know there are a few hidden beaches lying around. Anyway, volcanic rocks - fun, beaches - fun, landing on the wrong island - not so fun.

Cheung Chau 長洲 is one of those fisherman village and island . The words mean " Long Island " that probably describes the length of the few beaches on the island . We visited it in January 2026 . It was a beautiful day with blue sky and cool breeze from the ocean. We tried the home made fish balls and beef tendon with noodles in soup ( shop name is 偉記麫家 Wai Kee noodle shop " . The noodle soup , deep fried fish skins , beef tendons , milk tea with evaporated milk were all tasty ! We hiked a short hike like one hour , toured all the famous sits on the island . Please see the photos for the hill top view , Cheung Chau hotel , dessert house , Bao Mountain 包山 martial arts school , ancient craving in giant rocks . It was a pleasure trip !

Cheung Chau is apparently a popular place to eat for locals. I did always try my best to eat as good of food here as possible. The first time I visited here was the day I decided to end things with an ex. It was a difficult day for me but I was at least able to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach with friends. Be careful though where on the beach you are. Some parts of the beach might be cleaner than others. The second time I came here, I was with a new friend who showed me a place on the cliff where we could I watch the sunset. We were getting to know each other, but for some reason by the end of our day together, I decided to confess that I had a crush. It was perhaps the combination of the sunset, the music playing, and the nature of our conversation. That's how romantic a beach cliff sunset is! This is all to say, this island is beautiful and worth a stop by if you have time in Hong Kong.

My family outvoted me and went with the bike rental instead. This shop also sells other kids' toys and games that are perfect for outdoors. If you forgot to bring water, this is the place to get it. The announcements also tell beach patrons when the lifeguards are leaving for the evenings. The beach is wide open and has plenty of space. The walk down from the parking lot is about 5 minutes, walking back up is a trek but it's not horrible. We took a taxi both ways from Hong Kong to the beach. I guess you could have to wait for a taxi, maybe call one if it's not there. For us, there were enough taxis waiting that all of us were able to leave right away. There are bathrooms, vendors with drinks and ice cream along with surf boards rentals and other beach toys.

I am not a good swimmer and during summer I spend most of my time in public swimming pool which is naturally packed with visitors, (not a pleasant experience) so I always wanted to look for a secluded place with nice view and I am really glad to say that I found it. As my previous review on the Dragon's Back trail, my roomy and I arrived this magnificent beach. Commonly known as Tai Long Wan (大浪灣), it is a bay well-known for windsurfers, which is located in the Southern District of Hong Kong. If you are not a surfer like me, you will still be overwhelmed by the scenery here with clean sands and water. Yes it can be windy at times (that's why there are so many daring surfers) but if you have a blanket with you, you will be fine with the breeze. My roommate and I ended up spending a night here as it was just so breathtaking (and I was too tired to hike my way back to civilization). And what do you expect? We actually saw lots of STARS in the evening. Who would have thought you could still do that in Hong Kong. Also, there is a declared monument here as well - a rock carving that was believed to pacify the adverse weather during the Bronze Age in ancient China. If you are worried about food and refreshments, there are several cafes and restaurants there but do not expect a filling meal though, I suggest bringing your own food and drinks and definitely spend a night there to really enjoy this secluded place which you thought had all disappeared in Hong Kong.
