An impulse buy but was so worth it. Was debating whether or not to buy a compact camera. I'm no professional photographer or anything but just wanted to get something to capture family pics and cute selfies. When I got there the staff were welcoming. I asked about the canon sx740 and just so happen they had 1 in stock, it's been sold out everywhere and the price was better than what they were selling for it online and at Best Buy & Walmart. (I was a first time Hawaii visitor) The people working here are super chill and cool. I was looking for a Peak Design Sling camera bag as the one I ordered got delayed before my trip. I found this place after landing and came to check it out. The store is stocked with so much gear and accessories, and the people working here are very informative and friendly. When I got here, one associate was chatting with a customer and showing him different things, explaining the technical aspects in a clear and simple manner, similar to how I would do it if I was teaching someone new or unfamiliar with a topic. The other associate let me browse in peace until I approached him to ask if they carried the camera bag I was looking for. He grabbed it for me to look at and try on. He also recommended the Wandrd bag and brought some over as that was the one he used. He was transparent with the pricing, the usage, material, and his own opinion of the two (both the practical usage and design/look). He left me alone and gave me time/space to go through them and actually came back not to check on me, but to show me a post he saw about some bomb looking tacos like I was his friend. I felt really included and was very comfortable shopping and talking to the staff here. The experience felt very personable, and I enjoyed browsing their other products. Tony and the crew here have the best customer service on the island. Wannabe photographer here whose prior experience with cameras is the one built into my iPhones. I was ok with the photos I was taking from my phone. Like the saying goes "You don't know what you're missing until you get introduced to what you're missing (and then realize you just got sucked into a thousand dollar hobby LOL [well that's why my rental only review... for now])!! I got introduced to "real cameras and lenses" and now my phone is "EHHHHH" for on the go photos but the real memory keepers I wholly admit are from Pro Camera Hawaii's camera selection. Their rental cameras produce these incredibly sharp, colorful photos with that blurry background so my subject is highlighted (bokeh??). They have an easy and diverse rental department so I don't have to initially spend thousands but can rent equipment and have some fun and get great shots to keep! Tony, owner who actually works behind the counter full time too, has always been really patient, helpful and friendly... and PATIENT when discussing what I'm trying to shoot. He talks about focus (yes I had the "Why isn't this in focus" when looking through the eye hole (?) moment), lighting, subject frame space etc. For my son's soccer games I rented a long lenses camera (don't recall the technical alpha and numerical acronyms each camera and lens...but it was a Nikon). For my just for fun play at the park and gardens, it was this Canon 6d MKll (??) and XX/xx xx(??) lens which was super easy for my point and shot capabilities that produced SUPER AMAZING pictures with my boys and flowers. I don't want to post my boys here, but they were some of my all time favorite. Flowers posted :) Bottom line - RECOMMEND rent some gear there!! It's cheaper than buying new. No deposit, no hold on your credit card. So why just four stars? On a recent visit, I asked for a specific, small camera body and pancake lens. Got told by a younger employee that they don't carry it because it's old (even if it's part of the current line up) and not as good as the top of the line model without even asking what I planned to use it for. Buddy, I'd like to see you shove your recommendation with fast glass in your jeans pocket. He failed to understand, tech is great but a camera is only a tool. The photographer provides the creative vision. Put another way, give Annie Leibovitz a used 10 year old, $25 compact camera and you get art. I thought my camera needed a sensor cleaning because dust spots were showing in my photos. I was expecting for it to take a while but they said it would be quick. They worked on it for a few minutes and it turned out my sensor wasn't dirty, but they cleaned the dust out of my camera anyway free of charge. They also gave me some alcohol wipes so I could clean the inside in the future. They could have charged me for the sensor cleaning and I would've never known. Opened in Dec. 2014 as a one-stop camera shop, owner Tony Zerga, who worked in the camera industry for 10 years prior, saw an increasing demand for photography and wanted to help other photographers, whether they are beginners or professionals. We found Tony to be super knowledgeable, personable, patient, friendly, and honest. He'll ask you a lot of questions so that he can recommend the right camera for your needs now and what can potentially grow if we really get into it going forward. As we didn't know anything about photography, we didn't feel intimated by the many terms known only to photographers, as Tony was genuinely interested in helping us learn more. We could see that he was not about to oversell us with a camera that was beyond our needs. We ended up talking to him for more than an hour, giving us the pros and cons of different cameras, before choosing the model we decided on. When we finally decided which model we wanted, Tony noted that he would have to order one, as he did not have available inventory. So what did he do? He let us use of his rental cameras at no charge and took a bag and camera chip from the wall! As we were leaving, we were kindly asked by a personable sales rep, Lyle from the distributor BlackRapid camera straps, if we wanted to try on a body strap that prevents having a sore back when carrying your camera around your neck. Great customer service, as he patiently fitted my hubby with a strap that fit perfectly and gave us many tips when traveling. No obligation to buy and in fact, he said wait for the next sale to get it. Cool! During the times we've been there, we noticed how busy it was, with people coming in and going. And everyone knew everyone. I felt very good vibes in a place where it was so friendly and people with a common interest helping others. I was taking pictures and I noticed that my DSLR pictures all had spots on them in the same location. After cleaning my lens I still had the same spots. Internet research showed that my sensor needed cleaning and I called Pro Camera Hawaii and they had me fill in a form on their website and told me when the technician would be available to take care of cleaning the sensor. When I get to the store they were very friendly and looked at my lens and camera and saw that the sensor needed cleaning as I thought. The tech took his time and went over my sensor about five times to make sure all the dust was gone. I took some sunset pictures last night and my camera is flawless thanks to ProbCamera Hawaii's great service. We visited Hawaii for our family summer vacation in 2018, and we had a great time. While on Oahu one of the things we did was climb Diamond Head. It's a great afternoon and the views from the top are spectacular. Our son and daughter both have had GorillaPod tripods for their iPods and our son's GoPro for years, and both brought them and used them on our trip. While at the top of Diamond Head, our son's tripod experienced a "sibling moment" and met its demise. Thankfully a Yelp search found Pro Camera Hawaii and a quick call confirmed they carry GorillaPods. We did not want the very large one, but the smaller-to-mid-sized one. What they offered was a little larger than the one that was broken but it still fits in our son's GoPro case, so it was just right. The staff was helpful with the GorillaPod, and with directions from the highway to their store. While our stop was a brief detour en route back to dinner in our room, a quick look around the store shows that they have a great selection of cameras and equipment... we'd shop there if we were locals and we'll return when next we visit. Pro Camera Hawaii is my number 1 shop for camera, video, and drones. Originally in the my previous review two years ago of PCH, a friend had recommended me to check out this small business when I was looking for quality lens filter. Since then I have returned many times whenever I need to pick up new equipment for my photography, which recently I purchased two lens and a charger for the Mavic Mini. All of the staff at PCH are all currently working in the field, so they will be able to recommend and talk about any of the equipment that is in the shop.
