Lights dimmed then died, the car struggled to keep running. I limped home on a wing and a prayer. This morning I started looking for a shop that would at least do a diagnostic right away so I could figure out my plans for going back to Virginia on Monday. After calling a few shops that wouldn't even let me have the car towed to them I found Hooligan Motorsports. A quick call with Rob and he said he could have a look at it as soon as I could get it there. We both suspected the Alternator and within 20 minutes of having the car dropped off Rob called to tell me that he could have it fixed up same day, and an hour or so after that he called again to say the car was ready to be picked up! Hung up and called Adept Auto for no other reason than they looked professional on the website and the crew photo reminded me of the garage I use back home. Talked to Service Advisor John Brinkman, related my tale of woe, and asked if he could get me in and back on the road the same day. "We're busy, but yeah, no problem." They took it in right away and diagnosed that it was indeed the water pump. Quoted me a very reasonable price and got to work. A few hours later, John came out with some "bad news" (being from out of town, insert skeptical eye roll here). He said, After installing the new water pump, the sound was still there. Turns out they misdiagnosed the problem, and the real culprit was a bad AC pump. The noise we all heard was actually being caused by the bad AC pump. John reassured me it was on them for the miss diagnosis, and the original quote will be honored. In a nutshell, Adept Auto Repair replaced both the water pump and the AC pump for the original quoted price. Plus, they bent over backwards to get me back on the road the same day.
