To make a long story short, we approved what was needed to fix the oil leak and the catalytic converter they said was needed. $4800 was quoted and paid when they completed the repair. About four months later we were back for the oil leak which had gotten much worse. They claimed they replaced something related to the oil filter connection. At this point we lost all confidence in their company and we went to the Honda dealership. After hearing Honda's $9,000 bid to fix, we decided to buy a new car and end this nightmare. Christian Brothers should have been honest with us and advised us to not fix this car and buy a new one. They care more for their profits than they do customers. CBA provides a complimentary inspection with pictures and video of the car, as well as a detailed report of the condition of the various parts of the car. Wow! The techs were thorough and their uniforms were still clean in the afternoon! Hmmm. Maybe they change if theirs are dirty? After payment for my new battery and its installation, Devin had a yummy surprise for us. Never have we had such a great experience at an automotive shop! Then after shifting back to drive it would eve to go into limp home mode. These guys read the codes and and had a good talk with the computer on board. Even submitted a question if MB has seen this issue because nothing seemed obvious. They did see comm error found a blown fuse. After that they could not reproduce the problem. They logged computer codes and cleared them. Gave me the car back to see if it would act up again. For all this work they said will charge you when we know we fixed something. My friend attempted to deescalate the situation by changing the subject, and Jon appeared to calm down. However, a few hours later, Jon called me directly, demanding to know who my friend was. He accused him of taking photos of employees and the shop, which supposedly created an "issue." I explained that my friend was authorized by me to check on the car (which does not negate his contractual obligation to me nor pose harm to him) in my absence and that it was not illegal to take photos. Jon then claimed I was harassing them and said I could come pick up my car. By this time, my car had been in their possession for over two months. I explained that all I wanted was a working vehicle. He accused me of blackmail, claiming that Alabama is a "volunteer state" and that he was not obligated to do the work. I clarified I was not threatening legal action as a form of blackmail but rather as a last resort for them following through with their obligations--I simply wanted a resolution. He said he'd speak with Mike and call me the next day. That phone call left me shaken. I have never been treated this way by a business. I no longer feel safe going to their location alone. While there are other garages in the area, very few service foreign vehicles and accept extended warranties. Still, I will never use Ashley Garage again. Even if I have to tow my vehicle to another city or state, I will gladly do so.
