I've been on a couple of brewery tours, rum distillery tours, but none have come close to the Privateer Rum Tour. This place is kinda in the middle of nowhere in Ispwich, in a warehouse, but its worth making the trek. The warehouse smells sweet, yum. If you check in with Yelp, you get a free T-shirt1 The tour is extremely detailed and takes about 90 minutes. At the end of 90 minutes, you will know how rum is made. You will know the ingredients that go into rum. First, our guide started off with the history of Privateer Rum. The owner of Privateer Rum takes pride in making rum of the highest quality with the best ingredients. Its so good, that you can drink it on its own! We tasted the ingredients that are used to make rum (sugar, molasses etc) We tasted the high quality sugar that Privateer uses, and the low quality sugar. You could definitely tell a difference with the molasses, the cheap molasses are just disgusting, the high quality molasses used by Privateer is much better. After tasting the ingredients, we learned how rum was made. It was pretty interesting. The best part is of course, tasting the rum. We tasted the silver rum, which is clear white rum. We also tasted the True American Amber Rum, which has hints of scotch and whisky. It can definitely be drank on its own! We were lucky enough to be able to try the gin. I usually dislike gin but the gin they had was pretty good. They produce gin once a year. We bought a bottle of rum, which was $30+. They also had chocolates filled with their own rum. There are bathrooms, which are quite clean. This is what I would suggest for a trip to Ipswich: 1. Go to Privateer Rum for a tour. You need about 90 min. 2. Go to the 1643 Meadery. You need about 30min. Its a 5 min drive away. 3. Go to Salt Kitchen & Rum Bar. You can enjoy cocktails made with Privateer Rum, as well as get some noms to help you sober up.

Bob and Kevin tag-teamed our tour and provided us with a lot of information about the history of rum and the distilling process.

Found this newish distillery thanks to one review on Yelp. With the help of google maps and a…read morerecent social media post, we easily found this off the beaten path establishment. Plenty of parking, great views, and the friendliest bartender Cassandra. If you like small batch, locally made unique spirits come here. We tried a Gully Washer (bartenders special on the chalkboard) and a rye-tai. They make a spirit for everyone, but I had my eye on the rye and nocino. I also ordered a cold brew martini made with local coffee. Both drinks were well balanced, not too sweet and delicious. At the moment, you can bring your own food or have it delivered which is what we did. Ate at the bar and enjoyed excellent cocktails. Don't miss this hidden (not for long) gem!

After a long day of shopping for the holidays, we closed off our day with finally trying Chattermark. We walked in to an intimate experience due to it being nearly 5 pm on a Sunday. This was the best experience we could've had. The Bar Manager, Vasili, has a wealth of knowledge of the brand, distilling process, the founder & of course cocktails. I ordered the Hibernation & not pictured an Old Fashioned. My cocktail was beyond excellent. The story behind the Hibernation is that the events manager came up with this cocktail and goodness is it wonderful with the nutmeg. We were blown away by pickle back and green tea shots as well. Vasili was beyond excited knowing that my boyfriend will be back in two weeks for a bachelor party. He was accommodating to ensure he'll be stocked for the guys' needs! I'd love to come back again for the events they put on throughout the year! Please try Chattermark! They're award winning, at this young age, for reasons beyond words.

Besides spending leisure time writing Yelp reviews, I am also the Emergency Management Director in our town, a position that I perform pro bono and allows me to use my emergency management career to help our town. And then we entered the world or COVID-19 and like every town in the state and the country, we started using our cleaning and sanitizing equipment consistently. Although we had a good stock, the initial decontamination and disinfection of every piece of property in the town made our stock dwindle below emergency levels, particularly in sanitizer that folks in our police, fire, ambulance service and public works use. Enter Doire Distillery. As we were counting the drops of sanitizer left, we found out that Doire had switched their production from whiskey to alcohol for sanitizing purposes. Andy Day and his wife were busily distilling alcohol and mixing it with aloe to make a suitable sanitizer. I called him up and he offered the product at a very low price. We took him up on his offer and three days later we had two gallons of sanitizer we could use for our first responders. As a veteran, I am used to people telling me "Thank you for your service". This time the thanks are owed to the service of a business who provided a wonderful public service at the time we most needed it. This pandemic will be over. Sooner or later. And Doire will be forever etched in my memory as a place to visit and patronize. Thanks..
