I'm always up for trying new and different versions of desserts, especially ice cream! So when Joe K found out about this unique ice cream parlor that features liquid nitrogen as the star of the show, literally; I was curious and excited to see the process in action! The drive to get here from our vacation condo, was a little out of our way, and finding the shop in this small, lack luster strip mall made it also hard to find. The shop sign wasn't very bright, so we almost passed it by. Once we realized that we had found the place, I still wasn't sure what we were walking in to! As we entered, I felt like we were at a children's day care with colorful chairs, and white wooden picnic tables with toys and games strewn about. Children were present eating ice cream and playing board games. The ordering counter and kitchen behind it looked more like a children's science laboratory with a mostly sterile white and stainless steel appearance. The woman at the counter greeted us and explained how they make their concoctions. A wall menu is placed at one side of the room. They have a huge selection of ice cream flavors, along with whatever additions and toppings you could possibly think of! Your creations begin with a liquid ice cream base, measured and placed in a metal bowl. Then your flavor or flavor combinations, and possibly some food coloring are added a little at a time. The process continues as liquid nitrogen is released into the mixture with continuous stirring. Your extra ingredients are either poured or chopped up to be added. More liquid nitrogen is flashed in while the stirring continues until it firms up into a more solid form. Making a decision was difficult for me, so since I was in unfamiliar territory, I played it safe by ordering my usual favorite of chocolate chip mint. Joe was more of a dare devil, and chose a peaches, caramel, and graham crackers mixture. It seemed like a lot of time and work to make ice cream the hard way, but I must say, that our frozen creations were well worth the wait! I really enjoyed my special made mint ice cream which contained a lot more chocolate chips than what you would find at other average shops or grocery stores. There's some beach chairs & a couple tables with some fun games on them. My fiancee and I kept playing a game where we pressed the alligator teeth, trying not to get bitten! Neither Ida nor I had ever had liquid nitrogen ice cream before. We were kind of expecting a clean, ultra modern looking kind of a place. After all, liquid nitrogen ice cream seems kind of futuristic. What we found instead was more of a "hide the whiskey still behind the cabin in the woods" kind of a place. We were both shocked to find it more than a little on the janky and dirty side. Our first thoughts were that we must be in the wrong place. It made us uncomfortable but, at the same time, we were not going to pass up this whole liquid nitrogen ice cream experience. We were just going to have to be brave. We were almost immediately greeted by a really nice young lady that did a great job of explaining the process to us. I ordered peach with caramel and graham crackers and Ida ordered mint chocolate chip. You can order just about any combination you can imagine. It starts with a stainless steel mixing bowl. Actually I am only guessing it is a stainless steel bowl, it could be an aluminum bowl for all I know. Either way, she poured the liquid ice cream mixture into the bowl and chopped some canned peaches into it before hitting it with that first blast of liquid nitrogen. The next thing I knew, more steam was rolling out of that shiny metal bowl than a witch's cauldron on Halloween. Oh, how exciting! What a completely marvelous show it was indeed! It was everything I had hoped for and more. She then mixed my semi hardened peaches and ice cream mixture before adding the caramel and hitting it with another dose of liquid nitrogen with all of the hocus pocus steam once again mysteriously rising and curling over and all around the bowl. Next she expertly broke some graham crackers into the concoction and I was delighted to see she did not over crush them, leaving the perfect sized chunks instead. She mixed it a little more before hitting it with one last magnificent blast of liquid nitrogen and mashing it up one last time before scooping it into my cup. The flavor was even more glorious than the show itself. It seems like a lot of hard work but the result was worth it, especially since it was the nice people behind the counter doing all of the hard work while I watched in amazement like a wide eyed kid. read more

My parents had purchased a coupon for this location, and took my husband and I there as a treat when we came to visit. It was a Saturday evening, and we were the only customers for a good long time. The owner was very friendly, chatting with us the whole time. He helped us understand the process and guided us to choose flavors we would enjoy. My parents each tried sugar free bases which I sampled and they were just as delicious. The four combos we tried: sugar free chocolate with peanuts, sugar free base with blueberries, regular base with raspberries, fudge, and chocolate chips, and regular base with mint, fudge, and cookie dough. Everything was so good, and the portion was huge! The liquid nitrogen is a very neat effect, and I was surprised at how creamy and delicious the consistency of the final product was as well. We had a fantastic time, and I think this is a fun activity to try. Especially if you're into being creative with your ice cream flavors. The only small negative I can see is not about this shop in particular, but rather the whole gimmick. It takes a little bit of time, so it is not as fast as just walking in and getting handed a scoop of ice cream. If you come with a large group it might be several minutes before everyone has received their ice cream. Even though the decoration is lacking in the shop at the moment, there are a variety of fun games around to play with while you wait. It was flavorful from the caramel that matched well with healthy amounts of coconut flakes. We were reluctant to order the first one. We weren't shy to go back and order another custom flavor. They start with a vanilla base and then you build your ice cream from there. If you want chocolate they have cocoa that they add, whip it together and you have chocolate ice cream. If you want strawberry, they add fresh strawberrys...catch my drift?! My boyfriend had pineapple(which was fresh, not canned) and added m&m's and oreo cookies. I had chocolate with hot fudge, strawberrys, and pretzels. It was creamy, dense, and really good! Much better than fast food soft serve. The fact that the fruit was fresh is impressive-no nasty syrup or canned crap! I believe the price was around $5 maybe $6. I gave it an "inexpensive" rating because to me its worth it. From what i remember the cups were around 10oz and the ice cream was fill to the brim and even overflowed a bit. The staff was very friendly and helpful with explaining how the whole process works. The staff is really great here. It's not some place that pops out at you, so arriving is a bit tricky. It's right across gatorland, and has a tropical beach theme. There are lots of board games inside like giant Jenga, and Connect Four. Sometimes the lines get long so you can play in the white picnic tables indoors until your order is up. One great thing about this place is how most of the toppings are not extra. You can add as many things as you want all under a flat price, so you can get a little creative. I was able to order something that they hadn't experienced in all their years working, and the people behind the counter and I had a good but of conversation about how rare it is to get an order that wasn't asked before. I ordered a maple cayenne and walnut vanilla with honey. My friend ordered some caramel vanilla mix with potato chips. You get a lot of ice cream too! One thing that was a downside were the sticky tables, and a general sense that maybe a little dusting, or a wipe down was needed somewhere.
