I'm sure that the two reviews are from genuinely appreciative people, and Shah diagnosed them correctly. As for myself, Dr. Shah destroyed my life. He saw me 7 years ago for about 10 minutes, told me I was bipolar and prescribed me a heavy dose of an anti-seizure medication and high dosage of anti-depressant. Convinced I was bipolar for 2 years, I joined support groups, went to meetup groups, etc. After soul searching for those years, I knew I couldn't be bipolar; I was not at all like those I met. I saw another psychologist (a smart one) who helped me realize my anxiety levels- To put it simply, I was right. No chemical imbalance, no sickness, no nothing. My "episodes" were bouts of anxiety, not chemical imbalances. Since moving from NJ, I have seen other doctors to help me get off of it, but to no avail. This medication is ruining my life, all thanks to Shah who took my money for 10 minutes of his time, and 5 minutes for the next appointment. By the way, the 2nd appointment consisted of me telling him the dosage was too high, so he lowered it and told me good luck in college. Oh, and he failed to mention the side effects: Steven Johnson's Syndrome (fatal rash- yes, fatal) and grand mal seizures if weaned off it too quickly. I'm 28 years old, ready to have a baby. This medication is incredibly harmful for pregnancy (4 out of 5). About 3 times a week, I suffer from migraines that last half a day; two doctors told me it's drug-related (the anti-seizure med). Conclusion: I've reached out to other patients who've mentioned that Shah is quick to put labels on your "condition". I'm sure he's right sometimes, which is why he got two stellar reviews. But please, get a second opinion; do not see a psychiatrist without seeing a psychologist first. I don't mean to offend anyone either. But I wake up every morning taking this unnecessary pill, and afraid for my life to get off it. If anyone in Shah's office reads these reviews, feel free to respond. read more

Shah will listen to you, but for keywords, not for meaningful experiences or insights. He will diagnose you by textbook and prescribe you a medication for that textbook diagnosis. He will seem frustratingly perplexed by an attempt to shake his hand, and then you will leave him, with prescriptions, and a feeling that you just spent time and money on a heartless robot. If you actually are a textbook case of bipolar disorder or clinical depression, Shah may help you. If you need to be listened to and seek an actual understanding of your state and how to cope, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and look elsewhere. YOU ARE WORTH MORE than robots like Shah who perpetuate the cold, heartless machine of modern psychiatry. There are outstanding exceptions out there who are very worth finding. read more

Dr. Shah is a "medication" doctor. He will see you for about 10 minutes, give you a prescription, and you are on your way. He does some talk therapy, but not much. In the years of seeing Dr. Shah for my depression, he has been rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful in nature from day one. His demeanor is extremely fake, and all he really cares about is your money. Dr. Shah asked me if I trusted him, and I did. I have only come to know that he really had no respect for me as a person. If you try to page him outside of office hours, he will get angry and ask why you didn't admit yourself into Psych Facility or the ER. He may be an okay therapist, but he has absolutely no idea what he is doing when he prescribes medication. In 3 years of seeing Dr. Shah, I have found him to be a complete waste of time. If you are wise and do your research, you will see Dr. Shah is a cold heartless person. Also, there is another psychiatrist Dr. Ali in their office. Stay away from his office too, as he too has a reputation that is just as filled with ego and disrespect. If you do your research, you will see for yourself. I don't trust either practice. I do not recommend going to Dr. Shah or Dr. Ali for treatment. read more

Dr. Shah was treating me for Bi Polar. I was on several medications one of which was Clonazepam. After my 7th visit I received my ordinary script as I did at all my other appointments. Unfortunately I misplaced the script. I called Dr. Shah and he refused to call in my Clonazepam and insisted that I come in to pick up a physical script. The problem was I was traveling across the country for a trade show and therefore couldn't visit his office. I pleaded with his secretary to call in the script. After we went back and forth for a day or so he finally called in the exact number of pills I needed for my trip. I became anxious on my trip and needed to take more but there wasn't any available. My wife's a patient of Dr. Shah and I asked her to pick up my script while I was away. She happened to have an appointment. Dr. Shah refused to give the script to my wife and said I had to physically pick it up myself. Unbelievable! I have never experienced this problem in all my 32 years taking this medication. When I got back from my trip Dr. Shah was going on vacation and therefore I couldn't pick up the script. He said to wait till he gets back. This isn't the type of drug you can just stop taking. You risk severe anxiety and seizures. Again I pleaded with the secretary and he finally called in a script for the exact amount of days that he'd be away. During this whole ordeal Dr. Shah never once picked up the phone to speak with me. It's very common for a Dr. to call in a script for Clonazepam. Keep in mind that I'd been seeing Dr. Shah for about 4 months. In other words he knew who I was. The best way to describe Dr. Shah is that he thinks he's a known it all and everything has to be done his way. Out of the office there's absolutely no contact with his patients. Everything is done thru his secretary. In other words you could never get him on the phone. I guess he thinks there a chain of command and he's at the top. I don't think this works in Psychiatry. As a patient you should have access to speak directly to your Dr. At the end of the day Dr. Shah put my life in danger. This whole ordeal was ridiculous and should never have happened. He made my life a living hell. Shame on you Dr. Shah. As a psychiatrist you should know better. On a side note Dr. Shahs bedside manner is less than satisfactory. He makes you feel very unimportant and always seems like he's got better things to do. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Shah for treatment. Do your research and you'll see his reputation is very fair. read more

I saw Dr. Shah for anxiety and depression treatment. During my first appointment, he genuinely seemed capable of helping me. He told me to trust him and I did. However, this was not the case; Dr. Shah destroyed all of my self-esteem. The medication he recommended was one that I had tried before. Although I told him about the side effects I had previously encountered, he simply wrote them off as 'psychosomatic". He insisted that I should take this medication. Unfortunately, I was stupid enough to listen to him. My anxiety and depression did not get better, I experienced the same "psychosomatic" symptoms, and I gained 30 pounds. I don't know where Dr. Shah learned to be a doctor, but more importantly I don't know where he learned to be a human being. Dr. Shah made me feel like I was absolutely crazy and didn't seem like he cared about my mental health at all. He is more concerned with the money you put in than the "help" you get out. I felt rushed through every visit and actually had MORE anxiety going to his appointments. I'm still suffering from extreme anxiety and communicate this to him every visit but all he does is switch my antidepressants rather than focus on my anxiety. The last medication I switched to I had intense suicidal thoughts, which scared me enough to drop him as a doctor. I suggest everyone does the same. read more
