UPDATING REVIEW-- As a business owner myself this is actually the first negative review online I have ever made. I like to go directly to management or owners with my concerns to help give quality feedback when there is an issue. Well, I tried numerous times and I am extremely disappointed I have been completely ignored. You can read my previous review, and this was the reason we returned. The experience and work we received on our visit 2/2/2023 was horrible. I have uploaded photos, which I also sent to BK hoping for some response or willingness to make it right. Total cost ended at $3,400!! If the work reflected the "top artist" work we were promised, I would not blink an eye having to pay that. However, pictures will show the work provided was subpar and did not follow stencils and pictures properly. How we have been treated after spending that type of money and traveling across the states does not reflect the "family" aspect portrayed through their social media everyday. Very disappointed and I will no longer be referring friends/family here. read more

I was hesitant because it was my first tattoo, but everyone was so great! Really patient and supportive and gave me some extremely helpful guidance. A big shout out to all! Thank you so much! I can't recommend enough! Oh, and Super clean! read more

They do not seem to care about their customers and stand behind the "warranty" on their tattoos. I had a very expensive piece done and tried to schedule a touch up and they only wanted to book new people, They kept saying they would get back to me and never did. read more

phenomenal work!! I cannot be more appreciative of the work, brotherhood, communication and amazing artistry. I was looking for a place to take my son for his first tattoo and I wanted more than anything for it to be done right. I wanted a blue line glad honoring my deceased father and all the fallen officers. HPD runs deep in my family. Not only was the flag a cover-up, it actually covered up 2 old tats. BK and his artist did not disappoint! He worked with me to get both tats in our budget, which wasn't easy considering what we were asking for. The artist was on time, extremely comforting. and incredibly talented. We were blown away by the work done. This place is worth the money on all levels. I cannot thank BK enough! Phenomenal! Just phenomenal! Thanks for all that you guys do for the community! I love what this place stands for! -John read more

It took me over a month and half to wait for an appointment, the tattoo I received was a mechanical pocket watch, I had four skin traumas which one is still not completely healed after a little bit more than a month with several blow outs. Also, this place it more expensive, it was not worth the $800.00 for an inner forearm tattoo. read more

I had my second design done yesterday by BK and his team. Ivan did a Foo Dog for me by using multiple basic sketches and free handed all of the details. As I walked in I was a bit skeptical seeing the cages, but the shop is very clean and so are the artists. I came in not intending to get a tattoo, but to support my boyfriend as he was getting his first halve sleeve. As I was watching Chris delicately maneuver his needle in my boyfriends arm I was curious about a tattoo I've been seeing online and asked BK. Both BK and Chris were very helpful and although the artist that specialize in the tattoo I wanted wasn't there they didn't just say this guy can do it( unlike some other shops I know that will just match someone who is not good) and just want your money. I have been wanting a few different tattoos and after Chris was done with my boyfriend he took the time to hear what I wanted. Chris, was actually able to take me since it was small and they did mine for free!! The guys and girl at the shop seem to get along well and it was very comfortable experience. It is cash only, but they do have an atm. I will definitely be back! read more

This place was great! The prison theme seemed pretty cool for a tattoo shop! As soon as we walked we were greeted and taken care of (by the owner, I'm assuming). Me and my friends all got small tattoos. Our tattoo guy, Allan, was nice enough to talk to us about our tattoo placements! I originally planned on getting a finger tattoo because honestly I'm not a tattoo expert and thought it would be nice for a small tattoo. After some advice from Allan I changed my placement so I could end up with a better lasting tattoo. Any other place would've just given me the tattoo without talking to me about it. Thank you Prison Break for a good experience here! read more

Had to get my tragus piercing fixed & redone since the last place I went to gave me an infection. My piercer (I can't remember his name... sorry!) was super chill and was so good that I didn't even feel him pierce it. It's been two days and so far so good! I can't even tell that it's a fresh piercing... Doesn't hurt, doesn't pull, doesn't snag. I'm definitely coming back here to get my tattoo... Highly recommended for getting things done right the first time around! read more

I've checked out several tattoo shops before coming across Prison Break. None of the managers have had the same integrity BK has for his business. Follow the page on FB or Instagram, he is ALWAYS posting & promoting his shop. His dedication to the job speaks for itself, & I have mad respect for that, on top of him being a police officer as well! Thoroughly impressed with the cleanliness in the shop & the warm, comfortable vibe I received from just being in there. It was my long-awaited, first tattoo so that was a very important factor to me. My tattoo artist was Allen, very personable & a cool dude-- which is important again bc we sat in each other's company for about 5 hours so he made me feel relaxed even though I was a tad nervous. His attention to detail was more than I expected at all. It blew my mind & I appreciate he took the extra effort to pay tribute to his artistry & I'm the lucky one who gets to wear it. I'm already receiving MANY compliments and very proud to announce to others that I got it done at Prison Break Tattoos. Thanks again, guys! read more

As an 18 year old I went out and selected the proverbial "tramp stamp" right of passage tattoo, and it has haunted me into my adulthood. Prison Break was recommended to me by a friend that has had extensive work done there, and I am pretty sure I explored every single tattoo the shop has ever posted to social media. I felt confidant making an appointment for my new tattoo/coverup. The appointment setup was fast and easy, and from early on, the guys were asking for examples of what I wanted. I felt like a VIP long before I had even walked in the doors! BK and Allan took my ideas and concept and made my new tattoo a reality. It's gorgeous. I have received so many compliments, and people in disbelief that it's covering my old tattoo. If you want to be treated like family, get a top notch tattoo, and smile/laugh your butt off the whole time you're there, Prison Break is the place for you! read more

Ivan is a genius! I had an old unfinished piece that was suppose to be a coverup, yet never covered the original tattoo. Me and my boyfriend traveled to Texas for vacation and a friend recommended this place to us. Alan did our tattoos and he was so awesome. He specializes in American traditional and we both couldn't be happier with the result. I'd recommend him to anyone !!!! I came in on an afternoon looking for a tattoo that would have taken a total of 15 minutes. I walked in and was immediately told I couldn't be helped- honestly within the first 30 seconds. I wasn't even told how to make or reservation or that I even could. Honestly the worst service I've ever received and I was there less than 1 minute. read more

When you walk into this place you're really going to think you're in prison (in a good way). The owner (BK) is very creative and artistic, you can tell just by walking in. He's great, courteous, and professional! I was initially scheduled for 7p, but fortunately I was able to be seen earlier than that. I brought a picture of what I wanted, but I told them that I was open to any ideas. My guy who's name I totally forgot was extremely helpful and attentive to how I wanted this tattoo too look on me. My tattoo took about 4hrs and my guy always checked up on me and asked me if I was okay or if I needed a break. I was very satisfied with the tattoo and the experience. The staff is friendly and the service is great. The area is clean and not cluttered. After the tattoo was completed, my guy cleaned it up, spread ointment, bandaged it up, and gave me instructions. The only thing that threw me off a bit was that my guy used Saran Wrap and Scotch Tape, rather than a sterile bandage to absorb all the sanguineous fluid that was leaking from my fresh wound. Plastic just goes against every element of wound care. Overall, I would recommend this place for its cleanliness and quality! read more

I went to Prison Break this past weekend to get two tattoos that I had been planning on for awhile. I got a semicolon on my wrist and the word 'worthy' on my side. I hadn't gotten a tattoo in 6 years so I did a lot of research before coming here. I love my tattoos! The healing is going well. BK gave me a suggestion on the placement of my side tattoo which was very helpful. The price was reasonable. Overall, this was a good experience. However, I wouldn't go back because I did not personally feel comfortable and I got a weird vibe from the artist (Zach?) that tattooed me. He seemed tired and like he didn't wanna be there. read more

I had a friend recommended Prison Break Tattoos for a simple line that I wanted around my wrist. The blue line was in memory of my grandfather who had recently passed away. I understand that doing a straight line can be hard but not impossible. Also, if you as a tattoo artist feel that the tattoo might be to hard for you. It is way better to turn someone down then leave them with a shitty tattoo. The person who did my tattoo obviously wanted the money more then giving me a good tattoo. The blue line does connect but it is very uneven and thicker in some parts then other. If you look at the green line I got done at 3rd generation ink. It is literally perfect all the way around. I am giving Prison Break Tattoo 2 stars only because the top of the wrist is a bit better then the under side but I will never go here again. If you can't do a line how can I expect you to do something that is actually difficult. This is a reminder to ways do research before you get a tattoo. read more

I went here to get my second tattoo. It's been 20 years since my first, so definitely felt like it was my first. Communication was great from the start, laid back and informative, and they were able to get me in on the specific day I'd requested. When we walked in right on time, they had my ideas already up on the computer so we could come up with the design. May did my design and it was prettier than I envisioned. It is a very personal one so I told her I wanted it in white ink. She explained what may happen to the white ink so that I was aware and all bases were covered. She made sure I was comfortable and was thorough in letting me know how to care for it. She was also very patient while I cried when I saw the finished product and didn't make me feel awkward about having a "moment". I'm very happy I decided to go here. Definitely recommend. read more

I chose this shop because I love the story and my father, a retired cop, recently passed. They fit me in right away and I'm sure the tattoo would have been good however the prices were astronomical. They wanted $300 for a single date, a line butterfly the size of a quarter and four small lines less than .5 inch each. I can't imagine these costing more than the shop minimum and it was almost double. The shop minimum is also no longer $120 as is listed in the Q&A on their Yelp, it's $160. They wouldn't give us any quote until the stencil was placed, and then charged $150 for us to leave with no tattoos. All in all it was an unfortunate experience because I think it could have been really cool. read more

Brandon Lee. Go see him. Super comforting people there, they really focus on what they can do for you. They really do amazing work, and do the most too. Since moving back from California, it took me a few months to find a good tattoo artist with a clean legit place. Very grateful I stumbled on this place. There's really nothing bad I could say about Prison Break. The locations great, far, but what good tattoo place in Houston isn't? Deff worth the money, drive, and time. read more

Very Impressed!! I have not felt this comfortable at the tattoo studio before. BK the owner is right there the whole time ensuring you receive top service. Allen did both my tattoos. Horrible customer service, had a tattoo and tried setting up a touch it session with the artist but you have to go through the owner who answers the shop phone, he beat around the bush saying he would get back with me and never heard back each time I called and never set me up with a touch up session, I finally got so fed up I just said F it and went somewhere else to fix the horrible work of a simple tattoo. read more

Customer service isn't a thing here. 4 of us decided to get random tattoos during our "girls day out". We walked in here and it was pretty obvious we weren't welcome. We were told no one was available to do a tattoo and that it would be a 3-4 hour wait. I said that was fine and we could just leave and come back. He insisted that we go somewhere else. "There are other shops down montrose..." is what he said to me twice. I'm aware, why are you trying to send us elsewhere? Do you not want our business? He then asked what type of tattoos we wanted, I said I would like a sun on my back and he looked uninterested and said they only do tattoos that require a minimum of $140 and to go elsewhere. read more

I recently went here to get my ear re-pierced and I was very pleased. The coolest part of the experience was the place itself. It is made to look like you are in a jail. When you walk in, you are in a cell where they unlock the door and take you in. They have bunk beds attached to the wall that have sleeping dummy inmates on them. I was just impressed that they took that much time to create an atmosphere. As far as the staff, they were pleasant. They didn't talk much. They pretty much sat me down, pierced my ear, and then sent me on my way. It would have been nice to talk to them a little bit... The price of the piercing was $40. I can't remember what it was the first time I had my ear pierced, but I felt like that was a little pricey. Maybe not. I don't get a whole lot of things pierced on me. The one thing that they don't mention to you is that they only accept cash. They have an ATM there, but paying the fee really sucks. As for my ear, it's been two weeks now and it hasn't fallen off. That has to be a good sign. It definitely hurt a little more than what I remember from the first time around, but it looks good. read more

My wife and I looking to have a little Date Night fun and get some tattoos. A good friend of ours recommended Prison Break to us so we called to reserve an appointment, just in case since it was Saturday, and we headed down. The fact that it is on Washington made me a little nervous. But that quickly dissipated when we arrived. The prison theme is awesome and a lot of fun - and there was none of the Washington Avenue yuppiness we were worried about. BK is awesome and listened to what we wanted and gave expert advice to help get our thoughts and ideas worked into the perfect tattoos. The entire time we were there every worker was down to earth while still staying totally professional. Our tattoos turned out even better than we'd hoped - the lines and color are amazing. We are already planning our second trip there with some friends for more ink. read more

First tat ever. Walked in nervous and scared, but the owner, BK, made me feel confident and assured. Great input by BK on the design that I wanted. Alan, the artist, was amazing. Although the original design wasn't able to be done, he tweaked it a bit and still made it look even better. Process was quick and very clean. I recently went there to get a tragus piercing and I had a great experience there. I initially went there because of the great Yelp reviews and was pleased to find that they were all correct. Their service was outstanding and I would definitely recommend this location to anyone searching of a clean and professional shop to get any work done. read more

So I got my first tattoo here last November (I know, I'm late at writing this review) but it was such a great experience that I have to make sure to give them credit for it! When you walk in, you instantly feel like you actually are in prison. The set up is awesome. Really feels like a prison at times, and it is remarkably clean and professional. The staff is great! I walked in an immediately was greeted by the shop owner, B.K., and he is a wonderful person. Super funny, easy going, and very open about working with you to get you exactly the tattoo you want. I went in with a handwritten piece of paper of the tattoo I wanted (a phrase written in my best friend's handwriting), and B.K. fixed up the size and placing for me for about half an hour until I was 100% content with it! Got it on my left side; pain wasn't horrible. They made sure to talk me through it since it was my first time, and explained the post-care instructions very well. I will definitely come back here for any future tattoos. A great place with great people! read more

Got a tattoo from these guys a few weeks ago but won't go back. The owner is cool like everyone says, BUT the tattoo was way over priced, the artist watched football and talked to a friend the whole time I was there, and when I tried to tell him what I wanted he dismissed it. The last part would be ok if he was good but the tattoo turned out mediocre at best. And they gossiped about other employees for half the session too. Overall the crappiest experience I've ever had and I've got tattoos all over my body. BTW - the reason Im posting now is because I thought maybe it was me .... until I got another tattoo yesterday - from another shop - and the experience was what one would expect - amazing. I'd steer clear. read more

I made an appointment at Prisonbreak the day before and BK gave me a time that fit into my schedule. What I didn't expect was that he gave me a reminder the day of just an hour before which is nice because most places just expect you to remember your appointment. Of course I remembered but it's nice for a reminder for those who might have more hectic schedules. When arriving to the place, I didn't expect that their concept of prison would be throughout the shop. It's quite amazing actually how much thought they put into design with the prison bars that open when they press a button, to an electric chair to mannequins placed as prisoners within the facility. BK is super sweet and I was actually taken back by that since my past tattoos were done at places that weren't the nicest. He helps on deciding on what you want if you don't come in with a picture. Even though I just wanted a simple tattoo of 3 hearts on my wrist, he would look through more images on Google just to make sure that is the one I really want. The minimum was $100 which I don't mind. I have gotten tattoos for cheaper but The service is worth the money. Trey was my tattoo artist. He was also very sweet. This was my first tattoo without my sister but he would talk me throughout the session even if it was just 10 minutes; it helped me keep my mind off during the session. It doesn't hurt at all also! I highly recommend this place and I am actually thinking of coming back soon! read more

In a day and time when tattoo shops seem to be more shady than good, it was very refreshing to find this shop. My main point to go to the shop was due to it being owned by a first responder and to see the amazing tattoos that they are doing is just awesome. Now this shop was not in my city that I love or even in my state, I traveled several hundred miles to go to this shop. I am very grateful that I did, because I have two amazing tattoos that mean a lot to me. The atmosphere of the shop is very relaxing and the artist are funny as much as they are talented. Thank you so much to BK for having such an awesome shop, to Chris for my amazing brain, and the pink/green hair dude for my flag. I'll be back soon for more work I'm sure. I came in this studio with a general idea of what I wanted. I asked for the artists' books so I can have a feel for who I connected best with through previous work. BK, the owner, showed me the Prison Break's Facebook page instead. I wanted roses and was particularly attracted to a photo of a tattoo of a detailed stemmed rose. I put a $100 deposit down for the sketch. Long story short, I found out he linked me with a different artist that wasn't the artist of the photo I saw. I don't know if it was an honest mistake but I don't appreciate how I was steered in the wrong direction. This is a serious matter because honesty is key. I want to openly trust who I do business with, let alone, tattoo me! Prison Break tattoos can have my deposit. I hope no one else goes through this.
