Princess nails at the Dartmouth Crossing location is absolutely terrible. The service is terrible, unsanitary and everything is very rushed. The people who worked there were nice to me, but I was there with two friends who they insulted multiple times. Both of my friends asked for extremely easy and simple designs, but the lady pressured them into getting one solid color, and said that it would be easier to get the designs if they had "beautiful long nails" like the lady sitting next to them. They didn't want to get solid color but the lady pressured them so they kinda had to. She also asked one of my friends like 6 times if she bit her nails, and after my friend said yeah the lady said "No!". In the end the nails looked good, but it's not at all what they asked for. My nails are slightly longer then my friend's nails, so I think that was the reason why they were being nice to me, because the commented on my "beautiful long nails" many times. read more

Pros: did a very nice job on the polish, and they do great nail art. They were able to get me in and out rapidly also, which is a plus. Cons: shellac nails should not need to be ground off, and the girl while fast nicked one of my cuticles with the Dremel tool. I'm editing this review after this mani lasted me 6 weeks!!!! It would have lasted more except it was growing out. I originally left a poor review, but I've since found that it's actually the BEST shellac mani I've had. read more

Normally I just go shopping to pass the time. They do a great job of my nails. They are really nice there and the prices are always the same. On April 8th, 2012 I went to Princess Nails in Dartmouth, Crossing. I have never had false nails applied before. I asked for gel nails and specifically made it clear that I did not want acrylics. They started to work on my nails immediately. They used a powder that was mixed with a liquid to form adhere and form my nails. Through further research and education I have discovered that they gave me acrylics when I specifically asked and PAID for gel nails. There are NO powders involved with gel nails. Apparently this is a common scam across North American low-end nail salons. I am extremely unhappy with this and feel that this business was dishonest and took advantage of myself. I am worried that they will continue to do this as well. I even tipped for my service assuming I had received what I paid for. The place smelled strongly of chemicals. I watched people receive pedicures without having the basins cleaned out. The place was filthy. I'm actually embarrassed to be writing this review. I was totally scammed by this place. read more

For $25+tax I had my nails butchered! I paid to have my nails cut, filed, shaped and put a clear coat on. Aside from waiting for 25+ minutes in a chair before anyone came to do my nails I also waited 10+ minutes to pay. My nails were fine when I went in. When I left they were all cut crooked, harsh edges, and flaking from being over buffed. The clear coat was clumpy and looks terrible on the nails. I will not be back. Having been to another Princess Nails location I went to this one with an idea of what to expect so my expectations were already low. As with my past experience the service was scattered, rushed and unfriendly. When I was having my pedi done she tore a chunk out of one of my toes, didn't say anything (no apology no nothing), put some stuff on it that I guess was supposed to help it which only made it sting more. A few days later it still hurts. Both times my nails looked fine when they were done but neither have been great experiences. If you're OK with paying for production line service then they may be OK for you. If you're looking for a relaxing, spa like experience stay far, far away from Princess Nails. read more

I was on vaca in Halifax and was in need of a gel fill and pedicure. The staff were extremely rude and I felt very rushed. I asked how much a gel fill was and the lady told me 40$, I couldn't believe it so I looked at their pricing booklet and it said gel fill was 30$. She told me that because my nails are long she needs to use more polish which is why it cost 40$. Weirdest thing I ever heard. I sat down to get my pedicure and they didn't realize I had gel polish on my toes as well. They told me to remove my polish would be an extra 5$ totalling my pedicure to 50$!!! I told her to forget it. It's a nail place, they get you In as fast as they can and out the door. It takes a decent amount of time to do gel nails which I get. So I go on a morning once they open around 10am. Then told me my colour it was too light and without my consent grabbed me a new one and just put it on without asking. And the finished product of my nails was messy. The kid who did my nails was nice enough and all, but they reuse files, buffers, and tools. The cuticle clippers aren't even disinfected between uses, how hard is it to dip a metal tool in alcohol between clients? I gave myself a rubbing alcohol finger bath and a Polysporin cuticle treatment as soon as I got home. I'm embarrassed to say that the store was crowded and I was too shy to say anything at the time and cause a scene, but this was my first and last visit. I've never been more disappointed with nail service... They are pushy, rushing customers thru, bait and switch tactics... STAY AWAY from this nail salon!!! I have been having my nails done (gel overlays) since the early 90's by numerous Philippino/Vietnamese nail service providers across Canada. Upon entering Princess Nails for a fill, I looked at the pamphlet which was clearly written 'gel nail fill $30.00', I told her I wanted a gel fill. She said: "Go pick color." I was seated, and what looked to be the senior female nail technician (who was rushing around), proceeded to buff off my nails using the dremel tool on VERY high, which made me nervous; especially around my nail beds. I asked her politely to slow down, which she stopped, got up out of the chair, and said rudely: "He will do your nails!".... Pointing to a male across the salon. I waited quite awhile for him to finish with his other client. He did a fairly good job of my nails and then I went to pay. I waited several minutes at the cash to pay, and the original female came to the cash. She said $46.00 dollar. I said I'm sorry, what was that??!! She said "$46.00... Fill, nail polish & clear coat top, last long time". I didn't argue as there were many other customers there. I have NEVER paid for each nail item separately. I asked for a gel fill and was never asked if I wanted any additional services. This place is a rip off and they are using bait and switch tactics on their services. I got my nails done here January 13th of last year. I got acrylic nails put on, I think their price list said it was $35. It was busy in the salon, and I think 3 different people did my nails, all of them getting up and going somewhere else and giving me no explanation (no "I'll be right back"), I found myself very confused most of the time. I understand it was busy there, but I'm paying for a service. They had asked if I wanted my cuticles cut, I said "No way, I hate the feeling" the next thing I know they're cutting my cuticles ($5). I wanted red nails with a white half moon design on the bottom. They airbrushed the white part, which ran through the red. So after airbrushing all of them ($5 & up) they painted white over it and STILL charged me for the airbrush. They also cut my cuticles and fingers, not a word, no apologies. When the man who was doing the airbrushing was doing my nails (he spoke pretty good English) kept asking me what I was doing that night & was really creepy. Getting my nails done was my birthday present from my mom, I had family waiting at my house for me and I didn't get outta the salon until two and a half hours after I walked in. When my nails were done and I got up to pay, the man there helped me put my coat on, jerked the sleeve and my nails smudged. They didn't care. I went to the counter to pay and it was over $60.. I don't know what else they charged me for but that wasn't the $40 I was expecting to spend. Since my nails were wet it, I was carefully removing my debit card from my wallet, when the lady grabbed my wallet from me, took out my card, and put the chip in the machine. RUDE! I'll NEVER go back here, I will NEVER refer anyone here. They are incredibly rude and inconsiderate and over charge for terrible service. read more

I visited this establishment on 6 Oct 2018, and received a Shellac application (nail file and very poor cuticle trim) for a ridiculous amount of 50$. Upon leaving I realized how over priced it was. I was charged for a full manicure. My nails were not soaked or properly cleaned. There is still dirt under my finger nails. I would never recommend to go back. Worst nail experience I've ever had. Never, ever go here. I asked for white tips, and when the lady was done, all of my white tips were all sorts of different sizes and shapes from each other. When I pointed this out to her, she became frustrated and was noticeably more rough with my hands than before, and cut a good sized gash in the side of one of my fingers. Instead of apologizing, she pressed some burning disinfectant on to the bleeding wound, without warning, and continued on. At this point, I had been at the salon for two hours, still didn't have my tips on (as she had to remove them from doing them improperly the first time), was bleeding and in tears. When she finally was done an hour later, I was still charged full price, and had a wound where she cut me for a good three weeks following this appointment. She got shellac on the skin around my toes so I know it's start to lift in a few days... and she clipped my cuticles with dirty utensils. I will be surprised if I don't get a staff infection. Two days after getting a pedicure here I now have athlete's foot. I have no doubt that I picked it up here. Everything is reused; files, toe seperators, etc. The lady who seemed to be running the place was the rudest person I have ever encountered, especially in a retail setting. I am very familiar with this type of nail place. I understand it is not a spa and that is not the intent - it is supposed to be a quicker, cheaper alternative to a spa mani or pedi. I have been to many nail salons of this type in Ottawa, Toronto, and locally. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I went with my mother yesterday afternoon just for simple manicures as she wanted her nails done before a trip she is taking this week. We entered the very busy shop only to have a lady yell at us from 30 feet away asking what we wanted done... leading about 30 patrons to turn and stare at us. We were sharply instructed to choose our colour polish... for which we had to squeeze in behind ladies currently doing other customers' nails. Long story short the manicure was quite painful (the tech was very rough in her approach) and I left worried about the apparent lack of sanitization of the tools which cut me several times. The nail tech doing my manicure advised me that she made 4 of my 10 nail beds bleed because I had dry skin. I suppose the salon I went to LAST WEEKEND didn't make any of my fingers bleed because they were doing something wrong? This morning at work one of the cuts re-opened and I had to locate a first aid kit for a band aid because the bleeding would not stop. I'm usually not a picky customer when it comes to places like this but I left quite upset that I had paid over $40 for a shellac manicure that left many of my fingers in pain and with visible cuts - which doesn't add to the look of the manicure. read more

The staff are unfriendly and rushed. They try to upsell as soon as you open your mouth, trying to sell any additional service, brow wax, leg wax, etc. They do not take a "no" easily and just move on to trying to sell the next service. When I got home, I noticed that my toe nails had been cut much too short and I had a scratch on the back of my leg from a rushed leg wax. I will never go back to this place again. I booked an appointment nearly a week in advance to ensure that I could get my nails done. When I arrived, I was told that they are too busy and that I would have to wait. When I said that I had made a reservation, I was basically told "too bad, you have to wait". I asked them why do they bother to take reservations and I received a shrug and no apology. To me, this is very disrespectful. As a Christmas treat I took my two daughters, sister and close friend to get a pedicure. I felt harrassed for more service than I want it didn't seem acceptable to just want a pedicure. The lady running the store was pushy and I did not enjoy any part of this experience. I felt like the idea was get us done and get us out. I've never written a review before but my experiences here have been so bad that I felt the need to. First of all, as others said, they rush you and rush you out. This may bother some but maybe not others. Immediately though, the lady yells across the room with not even a hello or greeting, just "what you want?' and demands you go pick a color. Not the worst thing but definitely less that welcoming or friendly. When I first went there, I asked specifically for gel nails, absolutely no acrylics. I've had gel in the past and never had them done the way I had them before so I asked to make sure they were doing gel nails not acrylic. They promised me they were gel. It took me 3 more times, because as I said, I've only had a couple applications done previously and I trusted them when they said it was GEL no acrylic. It wasn't until the FIFTH time that I the scent of the acrylic (which is very distinguishable by the way) that I demanded they not use anything acrylic and if they couldn't do gels, I would go elsewhere. So they went into the back and pulled out a different adhering solution and used it in conjunction WITH the acrylic powder again!! So frustrating. At this point, I was in a wedding the next day and needed them done so even though I knew they were lying and I said that to them, I went ahead and got them. So you can guess my surprise when they charged me $70!! for a full set of gel nails instead of the $50 acrylic fill I was quoted at. I left no tip this day for obvious reasons and when I was leaving, the girl literally said "no tip? cheap cheap". in front of a ROOM full of other customers. Another experience is they told me if I were to bring in my own gel-nail polish instead of using theirs, they would take $10 off the price. However, conveniently for them, each time I brought in my own, they told me that "trimming my cuticles' would cost an additional $10. Imagine getting a $50 full manicure and the 2 minutes it takes to trim even the worst of cuticles cost $10. Their price fluctuations are insane. They don't have 'sales' there and nothing is even listed as having a price. Even though they've pretended I've had gel nails, I've only EVER had acrylic nails and I've paid anywhere from $45-$75 for the exact. same. service. Lastly, as another used pointed out, the lady dug her own nails into each of my nails and fingers as she was buffing and today, I left there with literally nine bleeding fingers. I told her it was hurting and she said "it be fine it be fine". no sorry. nothing. The one positive I have is that really, the nails really do look great when you're done and the guys who work at the shop are quiet but also extremely nice, polite and do an amazing job on the finishing touches. My first and last visit. I booked a lower leg wax, mani and a pedi appointment. Even though I booked for a specific time, it didn't seem to matter as they didn't know what to do first and were not obviously prepared. After sitting in the room for about 10 minutes, the younger woman came in and after my leg wax kept trying to convince me to also get a bikini wax. NO thank you, I kept saying. The job took less than 5 minutes (cost $30, my fault as I didn't check the price earlier and wouldn't have bothered). Then on to the pedi, an older woman worked on my feet, then walked away for about 5 minutes, came back (she seemed to be taking direction from the younger woman) and finished my pedi. No massage what-so-ever and no cuticle work. The younger woman then came to do my mani, and once again, no cuticle work and no hand massage. They kept asking if I wanted design on my toes and I kept saying no, no (more money of course). What was a bit strange, they asked me how much my purse cost, and then when I went to put my shoes on, they were asking what kind and how much the shoes cost as well. When it came time to pay, they charged me tax even though I was going to pay cash, so I charged it instead. The younger and older woman seemed to be running from customer to customer, never really paying attention to one person and to make sure they did a good job.
