I've been using Prince Lumber for a few years. I just had a horrible experience. That is not being handled by Prince. On Oct 29 I ordered lumber for deliver, the Sales Rep at Prince said it would be delivered between 9 and 11 am the next day, Tuesday, Oct 30. The delivery arrived 5 hours late. I lost a half of day of labor on three carpenters. Additionally, when I called to ask about a partial refund, the Sales Rep who quoted the deliver window called me an "IDIOT". He was yelling at me so loud, my staff in my office could hear him coming through my cell phone. I work for a nonprofit and this person also gave me grief about asking for the taxes to be removed. Which is standard and legal everywhere else except for this guy. After several back and forths, I finally got the taxes removed, but no one every contacted me about if they'd refund part of the purchase because the delivery was 5 hours late, not even someone saying they will not do it. Now, I woke up with morning with a charge in the exact amount of the tax reversal. No one is returning my emails or calls. This is fraud, I did not authorize the payment, I haven't been to Prince Lumber in a month. read more

The team at Prince Lumber are incredibly responsive, knowledgeable, and accommodating. There are very few materials that I have needed, that they did not have either in stock or just a few days from being available. My favorite thing about Prince is the customer service team, Bastian Ramirez *Basti, is my go to! AJ Crespo can also answer any all questions you might have on materials. We are involved with multi million dollar projects and I credit them for helping making my jobs go smoother, efficiently and within budget! Prince will deliver next day too! read more

The people who work here can be very condescending, treating you like an idiot if you don't know the lingo on a particular product etc. I accidentally called a Drywall Knife a Trowel and the guy acted like I was an imbecile. Work on your Customer service. read more

Needed to get some plywood cut and headed over to Prince Lumber. They do not do custom cuts in the W18st location. However, they assured me that I would get the service I needed at their larger W47st location. So I was going to head over there. Before I could run-off, AJ, who is a longtime worker at Prince Lumber, very kindly offered me a ride to their W47st location. AJ was very down-to-earth kind of man, and he gave me directions on who to ask for at the W47st to help me. Once there I spoke to Neil, who immediately got to helping me get what I needed. It was super fast and simple. My cuts were exactly how I needed them, and the prices were solid! Overall, I left feeling like I was taken cared of by people who are passionate about what they do and their customers. Thank you AJ and Neil for going far and beyond for my needs! Needed some lumber to build a bed. Went in knowing what I needed, waited in line for like 10 minutes, place is busy - they must be doing pretty well. the guy who helped me was super nice; he took my order, explained some stuff, scheduled a delivery, gave me a receipt and sent me on my way. Dudes are ok there. It's a lumber yard, and they deal with contractors all day long. Do a bit of research before so you know what you're talking about. Ok- so I've been in the client/customer service management biz for over 30 yrs and there are 2 lumber stores on the West Side in midtown & I need to build a loft bed so I walked in Prince lumber to get some pricing. Here's the disappointing part. At 4:00pm on Thursday, May 10th I walked up & down the isles by 6 (six) people w/the Prince company shirt on - some behind desks- I even stood in front of several of them looking around and unfortunately not one of them said a word to me- some (behind the counter) saw me and went back to their business.. Every single one. Extremely poor customer service here. The good news- I walked a block & went in to Metropolitan Lumber and was greeted & helped within a minute of entering. This is how business is won and lost ... I'll will easily spend between $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 & will happily give it to the business that cared about Service most... S.B. read more

Terrible customer service. Came here once and would definitely never come again. Guys standing around not helping and give attitude at any request from the customer. Employees behind the register are slow, unmotivated, and condescending. It's a shame because it's one of the only lumber stores in the downtown Manhattan area and the unpleasant experience really isn't worth the trip, head elsewhere for lumber. read more

I'm an Etsy table seller and I've ordered over 100 pieces of lumber from Prince Lumber. The customer service is good, the selection is great, the location is ideal and the delivery prices are unbeatable. A few notes, if you want a cut to be exact then let them know ahead of time, otherwise it may be up to half inch off. Also, these guys have a ton of responsibility on their shoulders so be prepared to move fast when you place your order. Have your dimensions written out on paper ahead of time. I had a very good experience recently. I bought a product and had it cut. They measured wrong and sent it to me 1/2" large. I told them about it and within an hour, they sent a truck and fixed the problem immediately. I don't think many lumber stores would do that and that quickly. Okay, they made the initial mistake but they really stepped up and did the right thing with no argument so they get a excellent score from me. I agree the desk guys can be condescending, but their warehouse guys are more than helpful. read more

Prince Lumber has saved us so many times I can't even count them. They have a wide selection of construction tools and materials that most of other lumber yards would have to order them and wait for at least a week (i.e. Quietrock sheetrock). I believe is a great option both for contractors, and regular clientele that doesn't have much experience and doesn't exactly know what they're looking for. My appreciation towards PL wouldn't exist if I hadn't met Jose Torres He's always available for my last minute bulk and tiny orders, whether is enough Quietrock to build an apartment ceiling, or a sand applicator. He's always willing and able to help, and wants to make sure you get the best product relative to price/quality. I have been working with him now for more than six months, and I can happily say that he's definitely what you call a value added employee. read more

I run a theater company at an NYC high school. We've been using Prince Lumber for over a decade and have found them super reliable and courteous. This weekend, there was a clerical error, and our lumber order was not delivered. I spoke to Neil over the phone, and he immediately sprang into action, got the lumber on a truck, got the lumber order to us within an hour, and the students were able to get on with building their set for our fall production. Over the years, I've needed all sorts of things a lumber yard should be able to supply automatically or figure out how to provide, and the answer here is always "no," even if you offer more money for the services (such as--having lumber delivered upstairs, instead of just curbside, which is a big difference when you live in NYC; having lumber cut in a shape (roundish) that would require something not-so-crazy like a table saw or a jig saw). You'd think that, for a lumber yard/hardware store in an urban area, they'd figure out certain accommodations for their clientele (and, if necessary, charge commensurately), but Prince Lumber seems to have no interest in this (even though they are quite expensive). read more

They must have really taken that first review to heart - because when I went I was surprised at how NOT condescending they were. I actually am an imbecile when it comes to all things DIY so am used to going into hardware stores and getting tons of attitude from the sales people. I went in with my usual series of annoying questions that reveal my complete incompetence and the sales person was super nice and incredibly helpful. And it wasn't just because I am a girl - the guy in front of me - who was very er....not masculine - also had a series of silly questions and had not a clue what he was talking about and as I eavesdropped I was really impressed how patient and helpful the sales person was being to him as well. read more

The customer service was terrible from start to end. The sales person was quite unfriendly and was not very keen on helping us. Basically he gave us the feeling he wanted us gone. We actually forgot to order a couple of things because we just wanted to get out of there and when we realized we forgot them, we just did not want to go back. The delivery was an hour late (the delivery window was 3 hours) and they did not bother calling us to inform us. I called three times and they either told me it'll arrive in 15 minutes (which it didn't) or just stuck me on hold for 5 minutes. Bottom line, I would avoid doing business with them again read more

ASK FOR NEIL. Everyone else: Really unhelpful, unmotivated, uninterested. Not sure how these "people" get through their seemingly miserable lives. Great service! We came in early on a Saturday to get supplies to build and install several shelves in our living room. Neil was very helpful - told us exactly what supplies we'd need and gave us great pointers for getting the job done correctly. Out in the lumber yard, the man who cut our wood made sure we got a piece that was free of nicks and dents, and cut it to the specifications we'd asked for. I ordered from here for years without any problems. Recently I placed an order and they sent me the wrong material. It's cool, happens to all of us! I called to have it replaced and was met with a juvenile grown man who tried to bully me into keeping them because it MUST have been my fault. I checked with the original salesperson with whom I placed the order and they assured me at the time that they had what I ordered in stock. I told him so and that I just wanted to exchange what I received for what I actually ordered. He continued to be rude and unhelpful. I surmised my years of business meant nothing to him (he just wanted to argue not provide quality customer service) It takes an adult to admit they were wrong, this guy clearly didn't get past grade school. So I hung up and called Metropolitan lumber who were courteous and helpful. If you want your business to be valued and to receive decent customer service I would not recommend that you do business with Prince Lumber...... read more
