My youngest was only there for about six months, but in that short time she learned so much -- singing her ABCs, counting, naming colors, and even identifying emotions! Ms. Amy and Ms. RiRi were amazing with her, and she adored going to school every morning. My 3-year-old had Ms. Rosie for a bit, who was so warm and engaging -- she even taught her how to "boop," which she still does to people to this day! Then she moved on to Ms. Abby and Ms. Mary, who are both phenomenal teachers and truly loved by all the kids (especially my daughter -- they were her favorites!). The front office staff was always welcoming, accommodating, and communicative. The daycare itself is clean, organized, and full of fun, creative activities. One thing I really appreciated is that there wasn't a lot of staff turnover, which made it feel more like a family. We had to move, otherwise we'd still be there. The school aligns with my views on treating children as individuals that can meet personal challenges. If the child is advancing they make the work more challenging rather than treating all the kids as the same and just expecting one level of progress from the entire group. Small class sizes and independent study allow kids to work in the directions that they are motivated for while the overall curriculum has an annual pattern to keep them well rounded and to bring newer kids up to speed while serving to refresh and reinforce the veteran kids. During the same class, kids at different ages and abilities become leaders that help each other. The younger ones are motivated to do the work the older ones can do and the older ones are helping the younger ones which reinforces the subject for themselves. Of note are the foreign language programs, music, art and various after school classes like yoga. There are several annual gatherings where the kids sing, play, and do small performances for the group of parents and siblings. It's a very special school and community to be part of. There is a healthy balance of learning, work, and socialization that lets kids be confident and smart. Would recommend it to anyone with children who are able to concentrate on tasks themselves. Those kids really take off at Bluebonnet because the pace of learning is largely self directed with teachers providing guidance, encouragement, and motivation.

Unfortunately, our experience did not match those expectations. During a trial day, a young autistic child became upset after a developmentally typical frustration in a new environment. Instead of observing the calm support, co-regulation, and individualized approach we expected from a program with this stated level of expertise, we experienced a response that felt escalating rather than supportive. There were also concerns with the emotional regulation of the leading staff member, and online records that reinforced concerns related to emotional regulation and safety. The biggest concern was the disconnect between the program's stated philosophy and what we observed in practice. A moment that could have been handled as an opportunity for connection, regulation, and teaching instead left us questioning whether the environment was truly equipped to support autistic children in the way it represents, or any child. Ultimately I did not feel comfortable trusting my daughter to Magnolia. I am grateful we had the opportunity to see this before the school year began, but it was disappointing to have to reconsider so close to the start of school after believing we had found the right fit. Every child deserves a program whose practices match its promises.
