There's street parking right on Merritt in front of the store and you'll see everyday merchandize like brooms and mops displayed on the side walk. Beware, just because they're displayed along the side walk does not mean they're cheap. To me, they're quite pricey. Walk into the store, you'll notice it's nice, well stocked and clean. The vegetable/fruit sections are to your right behind the cashier. The prices on these produce are very decent, and did I mention farm-to-mouth fresh. In the back of the store is the meat and food counter where you can buy a variety of Mexican food i.e. tacos, burritos, menudo, posole etc. However, the Mexican coffee was vale la pena el dinero. If you desire to eat food there, there's only one tiny table in front of the food counter. The counter staff are very friendly and accommodating. Oh, I forgot to mention, it's almost literally next to the famous new Phil's Fish Market & restaurant.

Salsa roja was ok. The home made tortillas were ok. Fell apart as soon as I picked it up. Ended up using a fork and knife. I still cleaned the plate so that says a lot. Maybe, it was just that day, the home made tortillas fell apart. Have to try again. Meats - 4/5

There were also a lot of smaller brands that I didn't recognize, so that was great too! They're just off the highway, but far enough in that if you weren't specifically looking for them, you probably wouldn't find them. I'm so glad I saw a video about them and went to check them out. Getting on and off the highway right here is super easy, which is great because crossing the constant flow of cars can be difficult from some of the other fruit stands and shops.

I grew up in the area and wanted to recapture the nostalgia of the TORPEDO. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The Torpedo was just ok, it was about $7 but it definitely was not what I remembered. It made the sandwich so messy and runny. If I ever stop by again probably try it without the salsa.

I've stopped by before to buy fruit, which was okay (ie, small), but this time, I walked inside the building. Holy toledo, Batman, the products were coated under thick layers of dust and had mouse traps tucked in-between and underneath! There were boxes and cleaning supplies strewn about, and animals lying around the food. I was afraid I'd spot a tail hanging out of a hole or see something run by my feet based on how many traps were in the store. There may not be any sure proof way to keep pests out of indoor-outdoor markets, but they can at least keep the place cleaner and more organized, like not leave cleaning supplies right next to the food. I was also surprised that the prices were steep for what looked like products that haven't been moved in a long time. Barn Fresh Produce is not worth the stop for me, but if you are dying for fruit, I'd stick to the ones kept outside and make sure to wash it well before consuming.
