I recently met with the children and family services coordinator who told me they take women and children and offer daycare to residents, in order to provide job training for interested women. Both men and women are offered services. On campus is an El rio health clinic so people could get health services. There's food available. There's places to sleep. There's an intake counter for people in need, look for the Welcome center building. The gospel rescue mission is always in need of volunteers to do various things. I took a tour and learned a lot! GRM has the ability to house nearly 400 people - men, women, and…read morenow families too. There are carefully monitored guidelines including strict intolerance of drugs/alcohol, violence, and even hate language. Every resident must participate in a program (learning, job training, etc.) as well as in requirements of the house - cleanliness, chores. These all evolve from their mantra: love, grace, dignity, and respect. It is demanded by and from residents and staff. Remarkably, it is intrinsically self-policed, that is, residents will call out misbehavior by a peer before staff ever need to. And, despite their Christian roots, participation (by staff volunteers and the unhoused) is non-proselytizing. We learned that medications are also strictly regulated - no one can have them loose by their bed, etc. All meds are locked and carefully distributed directly to the assigned patient-resident one day at a time. Once a resident has completed job training they become eligible to attend a Pima College certificate program - one that, again, GRM pays for. These ultimately lead a resident to become employment ready. One of the really cool things about GRM is that residents stay until they have BOTH a job and an apartment lined up... and, maybe a bit counter-intuitive, despite all that's provided for free, residents are self-motivated TO graduate. GRM manages to accomplish all of this on a budget of around $12-15M per year. We learned that they regularly receive corporate donations from the likes of Amazon (giant pallet surprises) as well as from area businesses. Another cool thing is that donations from individuals like you/me are never resold. Rather all are distributed in-house, frequently to those graduating to their own place. Moreover, they have a small fleet of trucks (think medium-sized U-Hauls) that will drive to you and pick up any donated furniture or appliances... for free! They will go as far south as Green Valley and as far north as Oro Valley and all in between, east/ west. These items provide "graduates" with the modest items to furnish their new apartment. There were other volunteers in attendance on this Saturday as well and you can register to volunteer most anytime. I have since brought my last two "goodwill" loads to this (local) charity!

The owner's concept of bringing joy to children who are ill through gifting them beads, raising money, and hosting events is creative, unique and inspirational. Their new spot on 1st is absolutely beautiful with studio and retail space. They also sell lovely handmade beads and other accessories to benefit children and their families. Recently, I went in for a fantastic workshop that was art therapeutic related and I had a great time. Snacks and beverages were served and spending time there was relaxing and I made some new friends! I highly recommend paying this non-profit a visit because their cause is so important and what they do for our Tucson community is invaluable.

And part of that process is thinning out my…read more"stuff", books, clothes, etc. A dear friend volunteers at Sister Jose's and recommended that they were a worthy recipient of donations. So I loaded up clothing, shoes and books that have served me well but will not be a part of my life moving forward. I am so grateful for the opportunity to support this woman's shelter and support group by donating my above mentioned stuff. I met both volunteers and recipients and was incredibly moved by the experience. This is a much needed support group for women who are struggling in our community. I am grateful to have been a part of supporting this program. They are located at Park and 21st Street and are most appreciative of donations of your much needed items or volunteer work. Please consider them when you are cleaning out no longer needed items in your home. Tucson has a big heart and I encourage you to donate. Thanks for your support.

This is a Women's Center for homeless women and their pets. This organization is such a wonderful…read moreplace that is much needed in our city. They assist women that are experiencing homelessness. They have laundry services, showers, restrooms, kitchen and outdoor garden for the guest to use while they stay there temporarily. You can gather a group of volunteers to cook dinner for the women that stay over night (40+). My friends and I attended a Kitchen Orientation recently and we plan to make a monthly dinner for the guest that stay over night. If you are unable to cook the dinner you can always have food delivered. You may also deliver donations such as: new womens underwear, socks, gently used clothing, sneaker/walking shoes, pack-backs, luggage, pet supplies (dog/cat/rabbit food, treats leashes, harness, pet toys, cat litter,etc.). They are in need of blankets, warm weather clothing and size 5/6 walking shoes. You may also make donations online or purchase items from their Amazon Wish list. They do provide donation receipt (if you need one)

She said it is her passion ans it shows. They offer more services such as acupuncture, reiki etc. I wish I found this place sooner.
