BBQ is a gem of the American countryside dining. Partially, because the only other alternative is…read moretypically fast food. But, that would not be a fair description of this tradition: BBQ is an incredible style of cooking and spots like this represent this tradition well. BBQ 65 is conveniently located right off the interstate in a gas station in a saloon like building that has a beautiful character from the outside. Open since 2010s, this spot has started to earn its place in the BBQ world, albeit being newer to it. There is an indoor seating inside near the gas station shop aisles. The ribs are cooked well with a nice wood profile, but neither very delicate nor particularly notable for their flavor of the meat itself, with smoke notes dominating. The quality of pork itself and the slightly tougher preparation could be better to rival Alabama's best. The BBQ sauce is loaded up with vinegar, completely overpowering the meat if consumed together, although to be fair, this may be a matter of preference for some BBQ lovers. The star of the show is potato salad which was perfectly balanced on its acidity, sweetness and overall flavor. As a whole, BBQ 65 is a pleasant stop to experience some traditional southern cooking and support a local business instead of tossing money into another "by the exit" fast food chain.

We had a fantastic meal at Manor House! Here is our break down of this new Jamaican/Seafood Spot I…read more Greenville! We were a bit disappointed in now liquor, as they are still waiting on their license. I think a nice rum punch would have really hit the spot! But we did order the Jamaican jerk wings to start and they were really good! A bit much on the presentation, but I never knock points for trying! The jerk was more of better paste, which we both loved! Our server was very attentive and kept me it glasses full. Our entree of curry shrimp over white rice and Jamaican jerk chicken with rice and peas and loaded baked potato came out pretty quickly and were fresh and delicious! I also had the salad bar, which was a NICE leftover from the Ruby Tuesday days of this building! Great options, and nice, fresh veggies. No brown lettuce! (My mama would be happy!). Only thing to improve would be homemade dressings, as southerners are pretty appreciative of that! Overall, the food was great! Will definitely return! The only suggestions would be to make the menu smaller, and serve the food in fewer dishes with fewer garnishes. The food speaks for itself and really doesn't need help in that way! I also was a bit put off by the Ruby Tuesday furnishings. Change it up, and add a cool Jamaican playlist! I want to be transported to the Caribbean! Give it a try and let us know what you think!

We just happened upon this place as we were in the joint parking lot of Can a Brotha Get a Slice…read more As I was paying for our pizza, a lady approached me asking whether we wanted cheesecake. I was a little confused but I quickly learned that The Cheesecake Empori-yum is a distinct business. The woman was a friend of the owner and she kindly walked me through the cheesecake options that were available. I was debating between the white chocolate triple berry and the pineapple upside down cake for my husband and the snickers and red velvet for me. I went with the daily special - pineapple upside down cake - and red velvet. The cheesecake slices were $5.15 each, which was perhaps a little hefty for the size of the slice but still reasonable I thought. The pineapple upside down cake cheesecake came out hot. I was told that the cake portion had just been baked. I must admit that it looked very different than what I was imagining it to look like (i.e. Cheesecake Factory) as the cake was falling apart. We refrigerated it for a few hours before trying it so that the cheesecake portion would be cold. While good, this dessert very much looked and tasted like cake and not cheesecake. There was also a texture issue for me as it was all very soft versus having distinct cake and cheesecake textures. We thought that the red velvet cheesecake was more successful. It was rich and creamy and the red velvet flavor came through nicely. The slice held up well and had a nice Oreo crust. It was perfectly baked. We were rushing some so I didn't see the full menu. Next time, I'd love to try the soul food egg rolls!

As a lonely…read moreCalifornia transplant years ago, I remember feeling a little uneasy about the prospect of being in such a new place without any of my normal comforts -- including my favorite places to get comfort food. Naturally, one of the first things I did was seek out some new local places to fill the role of my favorite spots back home. This search led me right to The Cheesecake Empori-Yum; after all, what could possibly be more comforting than a cheesecake? I can definitely say that I found what I was looking for. I may have had better cheesecake experiences in the past, but certainly not by much -- it's hard to exaggerate how good the cheesecakes are here. I might recommend trying the original in addition to any specialty slices you order, just to give yourself a benchmark. The last time I visited, I went with the Reese's cheesecake -- peanut butter fiend that I am, I ordered a peanut butter cheesecake with chocolate crust, crushed Reese's Cups, and chocolate drizzle was only right. It was wonderfully dense and beautifully creamy, just as always. I did wish that the peanut butter flavor of the cheesecake itself came through more, though; the peanut butter notes were overshadowed a bit by the stronger chocolate flavor from the crust/drizzle. Although the cheesecakes are fantastic, I think the best part of all is the amazingly friendly service. You often here the phrase "service with a smile," but here you will find that to the tenth degree. The owner is so very friendly, and it's evident she puts her heart and soul into everything she makes. A little shop with a big heart... you can tell each item is made with love. Come by for a slice... or three. I won't judge.
