Enjoying a wine slushie after taking in some of the stores in downtown Hayward? Yes please!…read more I was so excited to stop here last week. The sidewalk sign promising the slushies beckoned me in on the particularly warm summer day. And happily, the nice gentleman (I think the owner) was quick to bring the slushie after I ordered it. It was cool and refreshing, as you'd imagine, and fruity. Definitely hit the spot. I also got the Cider Hound Raspberry Rosé. I love that this is made locally, and raspberry and rosé seemed like such a great combination. It was very good as well -- tart and slightly sweet. My sister-in-last and her husband got the mead and cider flights. While wine seems to be Out of the Woods' forte, it was so fun to see ciders and meads on the menu. Plus you get an Out of the Woods wine glass to take home with you. The winery also has some light bites that I appreciate at a winery -- flatbread pizza and hot baguette with dips and butter. I admit that I didn't get to eat much of these because my five-month-old started crying and had to be comforted outside. But what I had was enjoyable. I also appreciated that the maybe owner was quick to bring me a water after watching me try to comfort my son in the summer heat. This laid back tasting room has bottles to buy and other fun. Definitely add this to your must-try list for Hayward.

I was cheerily greeted @ my 390th brewery by friendly April! We discussed the tap list and I began mentally building a flight. Decided to forego a $16 six pour flight for buying some tasters individually & just diving right in to a few goblet pours. Angry Minnow did not disappoint. This may be brewer Jason's first brewery gig since his Great Dane apprenticeship but...he is Dialed In! I told April and Taryn "each beer just keeps getting better!" There were three IPA's on tap and they said the Citra was the least piny/bitter, so I went w a sample of that. So well balanced, delicious. The Hazy was no slouch. zi started my beery voyage w a McStukie's Scotch Ale. I then moved around to a Tequila Saison Chardonnay Blonde Oakys Oatmeal Stout & a 9-Toe Doppelbock before wrapping up with a 5oz pour of Hazy. I was so busy chatting up customers and Taryn I completely forgot to ask about how the beers got their names? I guess a job for my second visit..... I love the brick walled tap room, the spacious tables and the variety of merch. Free street parking is easy. I opted not to eat but the small menu looked to quench any palate and it was good offerings, not just a burger or side salad. It's no wonder The Angry Minnow has been around since 2004!! They have all the offerings, including knowledgeable and friendly staff to slang it all. Thanks Angry Minnow for a fantastically delicious Wednesday morning stop. I don't make it to Hayward often but when I do...you will definitely be a stop! Cheers!

Outdoors they provide cornhole, hula hoops, footballs, etc. The outdoor area is dog friendly. Service was the main reason Tamarack Farms got four stars instead of five. We checked in for a table as soon as they opened, but it was a very long time after we were seated before we got water and could order. More minimal dings were for not providing BBQ sauces with the ribs, butter for the cornbread, or wet wipe packets. As someone who ate regularly at the original Famous Dave's that burned down, these things were the standard. Not extras. And now they don't provide them when other BBQ joints do.

Some things that stood out: * The farm pizza! This was delicious. We tried a couple including pepperoni and mac and cheese pizza. The crust was excellent as was the toppings. I was also impressed by how well the mac and cheese stayed on top of the pizza. The kids loved it too! * The brisket! My husband's aunt and uncle recommended this, and they weren't wrong. It was so tender. Just perfection! * The cornbread! If you ever had Famous Dave's cornbread, this is very similar, and for good reason. "Famous Dave" Dave Anderson owns Tamarack Farms. * The wine slushies! On a warm day, these hit the spot. It also feels like this restaurant has refined its approach. This includes the decor, the menu and how the restaurant is run. Where before we had to wait a while for our food, this time around everything seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Tamarack Farms also includes a fun selection of wine, so you could take some bottles home with you. The building is open and airy, with large garage doors. It's just a fun place all around. I hope it becomes a tradition that we come here whenever we're in the Northwoods.
