This was a huge roofing job consisting of a complete tear off of shingles and underlayment,…read morenumerous repairs/replacement of roof decking, replace vents & skylights. James Sears actually came out in person and provided us with a complete estimate and contract, kept in touch with us when needed, told us approximately when they would be out to do the job and approximately when they would be finished. Then the job was actually done! Two other local roofers never even returned my call so I called one out-of-towner and I received an estimate on the back of a business card which was outrageously high. A fourth business finally came out for an estimate and was only marginally higher but by then I had told James that they had the job. Yes of course there were a couple hiccups, but anytime you have a crew of people working outdoors in our harsh & unpredictable climate, there's going to be a few issues. The only thing I'm going to say about that is, they took care of it.

He came to the house, looked at the door and frame, and told me it was an easy shim adjustment job and he would come back between 4pm and 5pm last Friday to do it. I called him Friday morning to confirm the appointment and he told me that he would be there. 5pm on Friday came and went and he never showed up. I called him at 6pm and he told me that he was in the middle of an emergency repair of a broken water main and couldn't make it to our place to fix the door that day. We agreed to reschedule the job for today at 8am. He never showed up and, again, he didn't call to let us know anything. I called him twice this morning and he didn't answer his phone. He did finally call me back later this morning and when I identified myself, he asked me to remind him what he is doing for us. When I told him, he suddenly remembered the job and told me that he simply forgot all about it. I agreed to give him one last shot at it today between 4pm and 5pm because I really want the door fixed. He showed up at 5:15pm. Once he was here, everything went perfect...he and his apprentice spent a whole hour making sure the door was properly adjusted and shimmed, and rebuilt the door latch and deadbolt to ensure they were properly secure. Mike is a nice guy and I would use him again for additional home repairs and/or improvements, but I need to take away one star for the lack of follow-up communication between the time he and I agreed he would do the job and when he actually did it.

I'm writing this review to tell you what Clint did not do. He didn't tell me that I needed a roof…read morethat I don't need. I'm buying a house in La Luz and the Home Inspector said that we needed to get a roofing contractor to look at the roof, especially since there is some wrinkles in the covering (flat - built-up roof), and because the roof was replaced two years earlier by the owner (not using a contractor). I used Clint Hicks because he has an adequate web site and there were not any negative reviews on him from the many review sites out there. I didn't find any positive reviews on any roofers in the Alamogordo area from any web sites. I was able to get Clint to come out to the property after normal working hours on a day's notice. Not only did he not charge me for an estimate, he told me that we only need minor work done that we can do ourselves. PLUS - he provided a detailed explanation on how to do the work and what material to use. Honest contractors are so hard to find. Thank goodness that my spin of the roulette wheel landed on Clint Hicks. When I do need a new roof, he will be my first call for an estimate. Of course, since I don't need a new roof, I can't tell you how good a job he does or how reasonable his rates are. I hope to see more reviews here covering those issues when I do need a new roof in ~8 years.
