There is a ballad waiting to be written - something along the lines of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's…read moreRestaurant Massacree" perhaps - about this woman who is strong, obstinate and disturbingly determined. The ballad should also be about the place that heroically enabled her stubbornness and resolve. Here's the raw data, and wildly, every bit of it is true. I pieced it together after speaking with about a dozen people. 10 weeks after having undergone two heart procedures, my nearly deaf 93-year-old mom sets out on her own for an adventure. Her goal? The scrumptious lox bagel at Mary's Cafe. She missteps exiting the car and... kaboom! She falls and breaks her hip. She is literally across the street from St. David's Medical Center. A kind man rushes to her aid. Together, at her command, they get her BACK IN THE CAR. SHE DRIVES HERSELF ACROSS TOWN AND GOES HOME. There, she realizes that she can't get out of the car. She is half in-half out. After ten minutes, an innocent passerby in our quiet residential neighborhood hears her bleating plea and - again - at her command, helps get her back in the car, whereupon mom DRIVES HERSELF ACROSS TOWN AND BACK TO ST DAVID'S. It took three nurses and the manager of concierge services to extract her from her old beater Honda - the one with manual door locks - and it ended up in valet parking alongside the Porsches and a Ferrari. Mom would go on to have a nine inch nail inserted in her hip and spend two weeks at St. David's, one week in the Medical Center and one week in St. David's Rehabilitatiom Hospital. Here she was treated with dignity and compassion by every single person we encountered. And there were tons of them. Every effort was made to make her feel comfortable. Cozy even. The staff made her laugh. Encouraged her. Listened carefully to every word she said. Her in-house doctors watched over so thoughtfully. The physical and occupational therapists helped her to understand that she *could* meet her goal of regaining her independence. Yes, there were times when a nurse promised to bring her something and then forgot, but really, things couldn't have gone better. The food? Not too shabby, and if you are a visitor, there are alternating pop up caterers for things like sushi, Indian and Mexican food, every week day. Parking? Free if you're over 65. Just scan your driver's license instead of your parking stub. And my mom's old beater Honda rubbing shoulders with the glamor cars in Valet? I drove it out myself... free of charge.

When we got there, checked, escorted to radiology, i was informed they do not do that procedure at that location! I had to reschedule 3 weeks later at the south location. This time I prepped ($167 sutabs) the night before. We are driving there the morning of the procedure when they call me to tell me they ran out of barium yhf day before and will need to reschedule! Absolutely incompetence! Do not recommend them!!

I think they tried to kill me...Why the hell did it take three months to get me to a surgeon? My…read moreexperience with Cardio Texas started out well. I originally went to the Cardiologist because my doctor found that I had high blood pressure in August of 2023. The Cardiologist Dr. Otero put me on blood pressure pills. I took the pills for a few months and stopped. In March 2024 I ended up in the hospital with extreme dizziness and got physically sick when I moved. I went through a plethora of tests and the emergency room doctor said I had possibly had a small heart attack and/or Stroke, the hospital said I had to see a heart surgeon immediately and set an appointment. When I spoke with Dr Otero he said to cancel the appointment with the surgeon and that he needed to do more tests to verify my condition before I see a surgeon. Then I was run through every singe one of the same tests that were performed when I was in the hospital costing me for out of pocket expense again. Then an angiogram was scheduled for the first week of June 2024. The results were not good, Bicuspid valve that needed to be replaced, a 70% blockage that required a double bypass and a aortic aneurysm which could burst at any moment, (same thing killed my grandfather). I was told that a surgeon would call me the next week to schedule an appointment. Well, the next week came and went and no call...then the second week went by and no call. So, I called Dr Otero's office and left a message with his assistant Andrenika Ellison that I had not heard from the surgeon. I never heard back from Cardio Texas, and this was three weeks after my diagnosis. I waited until the next week, called again, no answer, left a message and never heard back. I had other family members who also used Cardio Texas but other Doctors in the practice call to try to get a response, and STILL NO CALL BACK! Remember, I have an aneurysm that could rupture an any moment and I would die on the spot. This went on for THREE months, I called every week, without an answer or a returned call. Finally at the end of August a surgeon's office called. I scheduled an appointment and the first thing the surgeon said to me was " I'm very concerned that you were diagnosed with this condition and your cardiologist took three months to get you to a surgeon?" Then he said, my diagnosed blockage was not 70%, it was 85% blockage and I didn't need a double bypass, I needed a triple bypass and could I be ready tomorrow for surgery? Then the surgeon said, I could be almost recovered by that point if they would have sent you back in June. BEWARE OF THIS PRACTICE, THEY ARE JUST LOOKING TO GET THAT COMMISSION FROM BIG PHARMA. Then, when I went to Cardiac recovery CARE with a physical therapist to help with my physical recovery. I was supposed to go to for several weeks but I ran into an issue the first day with my heart rate shooting up to 130 bpm. The therapist made me stop and instantly called to speak with Dr Otero and didn't get a answer. I was told to go home because we could not do any more exercises until he spoke with the Dr. Well, needless to say after making several calls and leaving messages the therapist never heard back from Dr. Otero or his office staff and would not see me without their call back. I'm going to have to say this is pretty sad for the type of doctors that are in this office...you know...HEART DOCTORS...or are they Grim Reapers!

I'm a 100% disabled Veteran with cardiac issues (very high burden of PVCs). I reached out to Dr…read more Burkhardt for a second opinion and understood that this consultation would be at my expense. I've had two telephone calls with Dr. Burkhardt. The first was a consultation (second opinion) which took place on 12.27.24, was billed $157.20 which was paid in full on 01.10.25. The second call was on 01.24.25 and lasted less than 1 minute - yes, less than 1 minute - as shown on my telephone records. I also received a bill of $157.20 for this call. I disputed this charge as being excessive and had a back-and-forth with the clinic, and their third-party billing office, for finally on 03.10.25 I was told by the billing office that the new amount due was $21.60 which I paid over the phone. However, I have continued to receive bills for $157.20 and have had numerous calls with the third-party billing company, as well as the practice, and there has been no resolution. The practice manager, Rachell Thomas, has not returned any of my voicemail messages regarding this matter. No one can explain why I was told the total was $21.60 nor how the $21.60 was applied since the remaining balance is still "$157.20 - the original amount. No one can explain how the amount due appeared as '0-30 days' one month and the very next month it appeared as '120+ days) and was turned over to a collection agency! Fortunately, the third-party billing office has been trying to help and recall the bill from the collection agency and put a 'hold' status on it until I can get resolved. The billing company needs authorization from the clinic manager to adjust the amount due; however, the clinic manager is completely non-responsive to my calls or messages from the billing company. Today, I left yet another message for Rachelle Thomas, clinic manager and, based on past experience, do not anticipate a return call. In researching, I have discovered many patients who have had issues with billing - including those with insurance who were told by the clinic that insurance would cover the charges only to discover later that it was not covered and the patient is 'on the hook' for the charges. While the care/treatment provided by Dr. Burkhardt may be 'top-notch', please be aware that you may have continued cardiac issues from dealing with the billing issues and lack of response.

They made absolutely no effort to verify that the people they were sending labs to were in network for my health insurance. No effort whatsoever. I went here a year ago, and I am still getting balance bills in the mail. I have a great health insurance plan from Aetna, they just didn't want to spend the extra 15 minutes it would take to make sure that bloodwork, labs, etc were getting sent to people that actually accept my insurance.
